Question 🤔 How long until videos finish processing? (Uploaded in 2024, ranging from 1-8 minutes long)

I uploaded concert vids from 2024 onto my google photos. They range from 1 to 8 minutes long. When I go back to watch them, it says "your video will be ready soon". I have checked on numerous occasions and it always says the same thing. I also cannot download them since they have not finished processing. I don't have copies of the videos elsewhere, so I am getting a bit worried. Does anyone know how to fix this/speed up the process?

Feedback 💬 "New update"

Seeing the message flash at the bottom of app, almost every Monday or Tuesday, when i open the app, is annoying to me. It appears even when NO new update has been released. It feels like a super annoying friend who keeps pointing out the thing i was about to do in the next hour or next day or next week; but nope, the pointer arrives, "Hey, we have released a new new shiny update, so update the app, hehe, we are so nice isn't it, we release updates so quickly, Oh do you want to go to update section quickly ok we have a 'update' button right here, oh oops we removed the popup message so quickly, we are just so thrilled that we released a new update that we wanted to point it out for a total of 1 second, every week".

No, i will not switch on auto-update.

Google backup just provides 15GB of storage. I even have two more accounts where I backup my pictures but it's still not enough.

Anyway I can safely backup my pictures? and I don't wanna use USB drives for storage I've been suggested that too

Question 🤔 Why TF is Google demanding to upload my photos to the cloud

I get a "no storage space" message, it illegally uploaded 6.44 Gb to the cloud, and it offers meager 15 Gb, when my phone literally has close to 1000 Gb of storage. It crashes the photos app, it's crashing my phone, it's crashing Reddit, it shows up the album empty.

What the fuck is going on.

Question 🤔 "Similar Photos" page from iOS app notification

Last week I got an app notification that brought me to a app page that was showing similar photos (most are stacked but also some non-stacked) and a filter button to select "similar photos" so that I can just click the delete button at the top to delete thousands of photo in one shot.

Then I closed the app and cannot find that page anymore. Anyone know if that's available some where..?

I felt that was quite a good opportunity to save storage and also just check old photos to grab some memory back... seems google photo always has lots of hidden feature only shows up once in lifetime lol

Hello,I don't speak English fluently, but I hope you'll understand haha

I've had this problem for months.

You see those little stories at the top of Google Photos that tell you about old photos?

Sometimes mine are stretched like that

Does anyone know a solution?

because I don't know

Do I need to do something simple in the settings or do I need to do something else?

Does anyone else have this problem?

Or is it just me? Good question.

I've never posted on Reddit before, this is my first time, so please be nice I would be grateful thank you haha

Troubleshooting ⚠️ Snapchat memories messed up my google photos

Since snapchat was bugging me to buy cloud storage for saved memories, I decided to use Google photos as my primary source of all my photos and videos from the last 15 years. Old Pixel 3a allows unlimited cloud storage for Google photos in storage saver mode so that's why I exported all snapchat memories along with json data of timestamps and sticker overlays. Does anyone have any clean solution to inject the media with correct timestamps along with any applicable stickers and overlays so they appear in chronological order in Google photos or any other gallery for that matter. I looked up Fix My Export app but it only fixes 250 media and asks to upgrade

Extension 🔗 PixyMap: view and clean up your Google Photos on a map

Hi !

I was looking for a way to see my Google Photos library on a map on my computer (available only on smartphone). On Reddit I found Photo Heat Map (thanks to its author, u/ratesnap_app =)), which nailed the core idea, but I wanted more :

  • to drill into a trip or a period, with a timeline that shows at a glance when you visited the place on screen;
  • to use Google Photos AI search (people, objects, places) right on the map;
  • and above all, to clean up all the bursts, duplicates and blurry shots.

So I built PixyMap, a free browser extension:

Explore

  • A heat map of your whole library. The photo list follows the area on screen, or stays frozen if you prefer.
  • A timeline of the visible area, so you can see at a glance when you were there. Click a date to see that whole day.
  • One search box for people, things, places and dates, powered by Google Photos own AI search. The results filter the whole page, map included.
  • Filters by date, color, favorites and videos. Shift + drag draws a precise area.
  • “On this day” memories, and stats on countries, places and the days you took photos.

Clean up

  • Detection of bursts, near-duplicates, and blurry or dark photos.
  • A keyboard quick-sort (X to reject, K to keep), with a random order option (I love it ! ^^).
  • Compare 2 to 4 photos side by side.
  • Bulk delete to the Google Photos trash, recoverable for 60 days (and Ctrl + Z).

Organize and share

  • Add to albums, favorite, archive, rotate.
  • Create Google Photos share links, and download originals.
  • Fix face recognition (“This isn’t Bob” for example).
  • Place photos that have no location, by hand or based on when they were taken.

View

  • Built-in viewer: video playback, fullscreen slideshow, zoom, info panel.
  • Multiple Google accounts supported, 9 languages.

I’ve deleted thousands of useless photos with it so far.

Everything runs locally in your browser: no server, no account, no tracking.

What would you add ?
I’m looking for feature ideas that fit the extension, around viewing, sorting and cleaning up your photos.

Edit : add the fac that PixyMap bridges the gap left by the web version of Google Photos, which sadly lacks the map feature available on mobile.

Question 🤔 How can I figure out which photos are taking up space in photos?

I have a pixel 4a and most of them are backed up for free. I see all these options for blurry photos, large files etc but I can't seem to differentiate between which files are actually taking up space. Obviously I don't want to delete or compress photos if I don't have to. Any ideas other than looking at the individual photos? Thanks

News 📰 Google Wardrobe Is Really Good

Disclosure: I use some Google products, but I try to minimize my Google footprint as much as possible as I don't want Google (or any other company) getting access to much of my data. I have used Google Pixel and Pixel buds in the past as an Android user, and they broke so often that I switched to an iPhone. I do not even use Chrome. Point being: I _really_ do not speak up about Google products.

I have been using Google Photos for many years now. It just works without issues . Today, I tried Google Wardrobe. I have thousands of Photos of myself on Google, and after a few hours, Google Wardrobe extracted many dozens of my clothes.

I was even able to select a few pieces of clothing and see it visualized on me too.

I am deeply impressed. Even just getting pieces of clothing is something people spend hours configuring to get on Stylebook, let alone visualizing yourself in different outfit combos.

This is a game changer. For no effort, I can just have my Wardrobe on Google Photos and plan out my outfits now. I am not sure why Google isn't advertising it more widely (maybe I don't see the ads cause I am on firefox with adblock).

Troubleshooting ⚠️ My Google Account Was Disabled, Both Appeals Were Rejected, and Google Takeout Is Unavailable. Is There Any Way to Recover It?

Hello everyone,

I'm from Indonesia, and I'm looking for advice from anyone who has experienced a similar situation or has knowledge of Google's account recovery and escalation procedures.

My Google account was disabled due to an alleged policy violation. Unfortunately, both of my appeals were rejected, and Google no longer allows me to submit additional appeals. To make matters worse, I'm also unable to download my personal data through Google Takeout.

I understand that Google has policies that users are expected to follow, and I'm not trying to bypass those policies. However, I'm hoping to find a way to have my case reviewed again, or at least to download my personal data before Google deletes it.

I'd be extremely grateful if anyone could help me with the following questions:

  1. Has anyone successfully recovered a disabled Google account after both appeals were rejected?

  2. Are there any escalation channels available beyond Google's standard appeal process?

  3. Is there any way to request access to personal data when Google Takeout is unavailable?

  4. Does anyone know whether there are alternative dispute resolution mechanisms or other options for users outside the European Union?

This account is important to me, and I would really like to explore every legitimate option before potentially losing access to it permanently.

If you've experienced something similar, or if you have any reliable information or advice, I'd sincerely appreciate your help. Thank you for taking the time to read this, friends.

Question 🤔 Ordering Photobooks with Fuji

Now that Google has switched over to Fuji, the process of ordering books feels so much worse. I used to be able to create a shared Google Photos album where my friends and family add photos and then select "Create a photo book." It auto-laid out the photo book with all of the photos in the album. You could make some light edits and then order as many copies as you wanted.

Now the process seems to be:

  1. You have to go and manually download every photo added by another person to the shared album.
  2. Make sure all of those downloaded pictures are in your Google photos.
  3. Go over to Fuji and upload/share all of them.
  4. Go and select PhotoBook.
  5. Manually go page by page with various layouts unless you want to use the autofill, which would then just make one photo on every page.

What am I missing from this process? Surely google isn't so blind the the user experience this is what they have created, right?
