Hey Fergus and Centre Wellington!

I'm organizing a beginner-friendly Magic: The Gathering charity event in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington, and I'd love to get some more local folks involved!

On Saturday, November 7 at 11 AM, we're hosting Play for a Brighter Tomorrow at the BBBS office in Fergus.

The idea is simple: come out, learn how to play Magic, have some fun, and support a great local organization!

No experience necessary! We'll teach you how to play.

All cards are provided, so you don't need to bring anything.

You get to keep your deck and take it home afterward.

Snacks and refreshments will be available.

Tickets are $20, with proceeds after expenses supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington.

Recommended for ages 10 and up. Adults are welcome too!

I'm running this through my local tabletop gaming community, The Gryphon's Keep, and we're hoping to introduce more people to the hobby while raising money for an organization doing important work in our community.

If you've ever been curious about Magic, or you're looking for something fun to do with your kids, this is a great opportunity!

Menopause is a major life transition, yet many people face it with limited information, support, and access to care.

We invite you to complete a 20–30 minute online survey about how perimenopause, menopause, and related symptoms affect daily living and wellbeing.

You may be eligible if you:

• Are 35 to 70 years old
• Live in Canada
• Were assigned female at birth and identify as a woman, gender-diverse person, or trans person

Upon completion, participants will be entered into a draw for a $50, $100, $250 and $500 gift card (1 winner announced for each), valid for use in Canada only.

Take the survey here: https://redcap.link/a1rar9aq

This is your opportunity to make perimenopause and menopause care better for all Canadians.

I haven’t received the Wellington Advisor in weeks. Did they stop delivering?

Hello, I am moving to a town near Fergus and am wondering if there are any job opportunities there. I study horticulture so something in that field would be ideal, but for the moment a job is a job. Any suggestions for places hiring?

How common is bicycle theft in Fergus Elora? Can we safely lockup our bikes downtown with not much worry?

We'd love your support getting this kiddo to the finals! Thank you 🙏

Hey all,

I'm testing the waters on building a consistent Magic: The Gathering Commander night here in Fergus/Elora.

I’m putting together a dedicated night to see if there’s enough interest to make it a regular thing.

First event:

📍 St. John’s Anglican Church (yellow house), Elora

📅 Wednesday, May 13

⏱️ ~3 hours of play (6-9pm)

💵 $5 If you sign up in advance. $10 if you show up night of. Just to help cover the cost of the space.

The goal is simple: relaxed Commander pods, all experience levels welcome, and enough time to actually play without being rushed.

If you’ve been looking for a local group or just want to get a few solid games in, this is a good chance to help get something going here in Elora.

If you’re interested, comment or DM me and I’ll send you the details and links.

I'm doing a research project on pigeons in small towns, small cities, and large cities.

I grew up in Fergus and was told there were some there but don't remember seeing any. Does anyone know where there may be some?

Hoping you all can share some insight. We are really considering a the move to Fergus from Barrie. My husband grew up in mount forest so he’s very familiar with the area.

I myself have been once! I love the small town vibe that’s why we are moving, Barrie has gotten “too big” for us.

We have three small children. Who are very into sports/recreational teams. How are the schools? We are thinking the newer subdivision Grand river or JD Hogarth. I would appreciate any insight:pros cons on the town?!

Thank you so very much

Hey folks!

If you’re looking for a fun, social, screen-free night out, you might want to check out what’s happening in Elora every 2nd, 3rd and 4th Friday night of every month.

A few of us have started board game nights at The Sparrow’s Nest, and it’s quickly becoming something special. Last week we dove into King of Tokyo, Dungeon Mayhem, and Ninja Sloths. Tons of laughs and good vibes all around.

Whether you’re from Fergus, Elora, or nearby, you’re more than welcome to join in:

🗓 Next Game Night: Friday, October 24th 📍 The Sparrow’s Nest, Elora. (Big yellow door at the side) Friendly crowd, and plenty of games to learn and share. $5 donation to the Sparrow's Nest encouraged.

I'm also building the local gaming community to facilitate the startup of a board game lounge called The Gryphon’s Keep, where we plan to host even more events in the future. If you want to stay in the loop or help organize, hop into our Discord. Comment on this thread if you wish to join the Discord and I'll DM you the link. (If I put it here Reddit will bury my post)

Come play a few rounds, meet your neighbours, and help us grow the tabletop scene here in Centre Wellington!

Hey neighbors,

Looking for the board games community in Fergus/Elora. I’d love to see if there are folks in Fergus who’d be into me running some pop-up board game nights.

What I’m picturing:

Evenings at a local spot (coffee shop, pub, or community hall)

A library of favorites (Catan, Ticket to Ride, Codenames) plus strategy & hobby games

Tables for D&D, card games, or Warhammer for the more hardcore players

A laid-back space to grab a coffee or snack and meet other gamers

I’d love your input:

Would you come out to something like this in Fergus or Elora?

What games would you want to see?

Any ideas for great local venues to host the first event?

I’m just trying to connect with other players in the area and see if Fergus is hungry for more tabletop gaming. If you’d be into it, drop a comment and I’ll keep you updated as we plan the first pop-up.

Thanks!

There was a vendor who had a full display of dice. They were on the end of the street closer to the Giant Church? (The church with the bake sale. I'm sorry, I'm not from around here...) I don't remember if they sold anything else – their main products were dice sets. I bought a set, but didn't get their name, and my buddies are asking who made them :')

I'm going to be moving to Fergus in a couple of weeks, and I have a few questions.

Where is the best place to meet people? I don't know anyone in town, but would love to make new friends!

What local businesses should I check out first?

Are there any local events I should be aware of that aren't on the online event calendar?

Is there anything else I should know?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has answers for any of these questions! :)

I have a small fire pit at home. I'd like to buy enough firewood for a weekly fire, now until the fall. Can anyone recommend a seller? Preference for reasonable price and delivery. Thanks.

Hi, I'm 26F young professional moving into the Guelph/Fergus region for work just after graduating. I'm hoping to find a few other young professionals/graduate female students who are interested in potentially living together starting June/July 2025, for a 1 year lease in a house ideally in North or East Guelph! Hoping to get a 3-4 bd house. Would prefer being close to Guelph General. DM me if you be interested in chatting.

Hey everyone, just wanted to give a heads up to the Fergus community—my cousins and I have had several packages stolen off our porches recently, and it seems like this is becoming a trend. If you’re expecting deliveries, keep an eye out or consider using secure delivery options. Let’s all stay vigilant and watch out for each other!

Stay safe and keep your packages safe! 👀

Hello! While packing up my family home we came across a couple photo albums and everyone in the family wanted a copy. I spent the time to digitize the photos and now we all have copies that will last forever, and i want to help other families do the same as quite a few of us have memories we want to preserve and have last forever! If you, a family member, or a friend have a large number of printed photos, message me and I would be happy to do digitize them! please feel free to reach out to discuss rates! :)

Hi all, I am newer to the area and wondering where I can get a good real toasted triple decker club sandwich? Thanks in advance!

Hi. This may be a bit of an odd ask, but I'm trying to find out where Benty Tea House got their teas from, if anyone knows.

I love their Cream Earl Grey and bought it for years. When they shut down I rationed what I have, planning to buy some from Ambiances Gourmandes online. Only they appear to have gone out of business too.

Does anyone know where Bently Tea House got their teas?
