My Phase 3 rewrite: Tell me your thoughts
First, no marvel tv shows to muddy up the plots, they don't exist in this version.
This is a much larger and less tragic version. Treating its gods, celestials, and mortals as developing characters rather than disposable plot points.
With the changes to the universe, the final films have been retitled to fit the new narrative, leaving the rest of phase 3 untouched:
- Avengers: Infinity War becomes Avengers: Gods of Tomorrow
- Avengers: Endgame is completely replaced by a new, triumphant cosmic war film titled Avengers: Legacy of the Necrosword
CHAPTER 1: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – The Eternal Dynasty
On the living planet Ego, the cosmic hierarchy shifts forever. As Peter Quill taps into the planet’s white-hot Celestial light, his father, Ego, prepares to initiate "The Expansion"—the total consumption of all life across the galaxy to end his millennia of absolute solitude.
In the original timeline, Quill finds out his father killed his mother and tries to destroy him. In this timeline, the realization hits Peter differently. Holding the pure energy of creation in his hands, Peter looks past Ego’s grandiose god-complex and sees a creature maddened by thousands of years of deafening, solitary confinement.
Peter doesn't drop his blasters; he drops his anger. Utilizing his human half—the capacity for empathy and connection—Peter projects his own memories of love, friendship, and the chaotic family of the Guardians directly into Ego’s cosmic consciousness. He shows Ego that the universe doesn't need to be consumed to cure his loneliness; it simply needs to be shared.
Overwhelmed by a genuine emotional connection with a son who is his true equal, Ego’s ancient, manic drive breaks. The living planet yields. Ego drops the expansion seeds across the cosmos. He accepts Peter's proposition: they will rule their celestial world together, using their matter-manipulation to create a sanctuary for the galaxy rather than its doom. Ego survives, and Peter Quill retains his immortal Celestial powers.
CHAPTER 2: Thor: Ragnarok – The Co-Monarchs of Asgard
The Goddess of Death, Hela, breaches her prison following Odin's passing and marches upon Asgard, her power scaling exponentially as she touches its golden soil. She demands submission, ready to execute anyone who stands in her way.
The turning point occurs during the structural battle in the throne room. Instead of Thor realizing he must unleash the demon Surtur to obliterate his home to stop his sister, Thor takes a massive gamble. Armed with the wisdom of Odin’s final words, Thor lowers his fists. He acknowledges Hela’s right to the throne as the firstborn, but challenges her vision. He shows her the execution of her loyalists and the fear in her people, asking if she wants to rule a kingdom of corpses or a thriving empire.
As Hela prepares a lethal necrosword to strike him down, the phantom projection of Odin appears between them one last time. Odin does not scold; he confesses his own past sins of bloody conquest to Hela, admitting he was wrong to banish her instead of guiding her.
Witnessing the vulnerability of her father and the absolute, fearless resolve of Thor to die for his people, Hela’s ancient rage softens into royal pragmatism. She realizes a stable empire requires loyalty, not just fear. She agrees to a tense, unprecedented truce. Asgard is never destroyed. Surtur remains dormant. Hela lives, the Asgardian army stays at full strength, and she and Thor are crowned Co-Monarchs of a golden, unassailable superpower.
CHAPTER 3: Captain America: Civil War – The Clean Resolution
On Earth, the bitter feud over the Sokovia Accords threatens to rip the Avengers apart. However, with Tony Stark secretly preparing to step away from the frontlines to build a family with Pepper Potts, he approaches the conflict with mediation rather than reactive anger.
When the revelation of Bucky Barnes's past actions comes to light in the Siberian bunker, Tony takes a breath. Backed by an intervening Vision, who uses logic to defuse the immediate physical violence, Tony and Steve Rogers reach a legal compromise. The Accords are heavily amended to grant the Avengers global operating autonomy under strict internal leadership, rather than UN control.
The team does not fracture. The Avengers remain active, legally protected, and unified. Tony begins actively mentoring the younger heroes, ensuring Earth is fortified so he can transition into a peaceful, quiet retirement.
CHAPTER 4: Avengers: Gods of Tomorrow (Formerly Infinity War)
The film opens not on a defenseless refugee ship, but on the borders of a majestic, fully intact Asgard.
Thanos arrives aboard the Sanctuary II, already wielding the Power Stone after his decimation of Xandar. Expecting a fractured, weakened realm based on his intelligence, he initiates a massive planetary ambush. The Black Order descends upon the golden city.
They are met with a cosmic wall of absolute destruction.
Thanos steps off his transport ship onto the Asgardian Bifrost, expecting an easy surrender. Instead, the skies crack open. Thor, glowing with pure, awakened lightning, stands side-by-side with Hela, who manifests an infinite, towering fortress of razor-sharp necroswords. Behind them stands the entire, unyielding Asgardian Vanguard.
Before Thanos can even raise the Infinity Gauntlet, a massive shadow falls over his fleet. Ego the Living Planet warps into the local star system, accompanied by Peter Quill, who flies through the vacuum of space crackling with white celestial energy.
The battle is short, brutal, and historic. While the Asgardian army completely overwhelms the Outriders and Chitauri, Thor and Hela launch a devastating frontline assault on Thanos. Thanos utilizes the Power Stone, throwing beams of purple energy that can shatter moons, but Hela’s infinite necro-constructs absorb the brunt of the kinetic force while Ego manipulates the local matter of the Bifrost to pin the Mad Titan’s limbs to the ground.
With a final, synchronized strike, Celestial Peter Quill blasts the Infinity Gauntlet off Thanos's hand using raw starlight energy, while Hela disarms the Mad Titan permanently. Thanos is soundly defeated before he can ever collect a second stone. The Blip never happens. The universe is spared from five years of grief and devastation.
CHAPTER 5: The Dawn of the Cosmic Council
With the Mad Titan neutralized, the Infinity Stones are safely secured and locked away in the deep vaults of Asgard, guarded by the combined might of magic and celestial power.
The universe transitions into a golden era of cosmic diplomacy. A formal Galactic Alliance is established. Asgard moves away from its ancient history of bloody expansion and instead adopts the philosophy of ruling with kindness and protection, acting as a massive peacekeeper across the Nine Realms.
Ego’s living planet becomes a magnificent, neutral capital for cosmic travelers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Guided by Peter Quill’s human morality, Ego learns to find joy in cultivating life rather than consuming it, using his planet as a sanctuary for displaced species.
A permanent bridge is built between Earth and the cosmos. The Senior Avengers—Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Wanda Maximoff, and Vision—are regularly invited to the high courts of Asgard and Ego, establishing Earth not as a backwater target, but as a respected peer to gods.
But in the deep, dark corners of the galaxy, the sheer visibility of this new divine regime breeds a terrifying consequence. A mortal named Gorr watches his family perish on a barren, neglected world while praying to gods who never answer. Wandering into a desolate canyon, he discovers a dying elder god and stumbles upon All-Black the Necrosword—a primordial, parasitic blade of pure darkness. Bonding with the weapon, Gorr vows to slaughter every divine being who rules the stars.
CHAPTER 6: Avengers: Legacy of the Necrosword
The peaceful cosmos is shattered when word reaches Asgard that rogue Celestials and minor deities are being systematically butchered across the galaxies. The killer leaves no survivors, only black, decaying matter.
Thor realizes the scale of the threat and officially requests the aid of Earth’s heaviest hitters. For the first time, a full faction of Senior Avengers travels into deep space to reinforce the Cosmic Council.
Gorr the God Butcher launches a massive, calculated assault directly on Asgard. The tactical sequence of the final battle is a masterclass in cooperative warfare:
Gorr’s Necrosword has adapted perfectly to Asgardian biology. Because All-Black is the very source that Hela’s necro-magic was originally derived from, their powers clash and completely cancel each other out on the frontline. Hela finds herself locked in a bitter, draining stalemate, unable to pierce Gorr's armor as their constructs shatter against one another upon impact.
Gorr thinks he has the Goddess of Death cornered, but he fails to account for Earth-born wildcards.
Wanda Maximoff steps forward. Using her instinctual, reality-warping chaos magic, Wanda doesn't try to fight the blade with raw power. Instead, she completely rewrites the local geometry of the space surrounding Gorr’s hands. With a brilliant flash of scarlet mist, she breaks Gorr’s physical grip and temporarily severs his dark psychic connection to the Necrosword.
The moment the blade drops, Gorr’s massive army of shadow-monsters panics and swarms to protect their master. Thor and Peter Quill immediately move in for crowd control. Thor unleashes a sky-shattering thunderstorm, while Quill focuses his pure Celestial starlight into super-charged, electrified plasma blasts. Together, the brothers-in-arms vaporize the shadow army in seconds, leaving Gorr completely exposed and stripped of his divine protection.
With Gorr vulnerable, Hela steps forward to deliver the definitive blow. She does not use her standard magic. Instead, she draws a custom, hyper-dense weapon forged specifically for this moment: The Stark-Ego Blade. Engineered by Tony Stark’s microscopic, self-repairing nanotech and infused with Ego’s pure, solid celestial starlight energy, the weapon utilizes zero divine blood magic. Gorr’s Necrosword defenses cannot absorb, recognize, or cancel its properties.
Hela drives the glowing, nanotech-starlight blade deeply through Gorr, ending his crusade permanently. A former tyrant, wielding a sword gifted to her by a mortal scientist and a living planet, saves the gods of the universe.
EPILOGUE: The Ultimate After-Party (Post-Credits Scene)
The Grand Feast Hall of a thriving, golden Asgard roars with celebration. Hundreds of Asgardian warriors drink alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy and Earth's protectors.
At the center of the main head table sit Thor and The Hulk (fully green, massive, but intelligent). Between them are two towering, barrel-sized Asgardian flagons filled with a glowing, heavy amber mead. A conversation from earlier in the voyage has culminated in this moment: Hulk had mocked Tony Stark's drinking capabilities, claiming even Captain America would be a better challenge than Iron Man.
In the corner of the hall, Tony Stark sits quietly with his arm around Pepper, contentedly sipping a glass of sparkling water. Having a young child at home now, Tony simply smirks and waves a hand dismissively at the table, completely past that competitive phase of his life and happily retired.
Nearby on a balcony, Wanda and Hela stand together, sharing practical, blunt banter about the burdens of immense power, watching the mortals below with amusement.
THOR
(Slamming a hand on the table, grinning)
I must admit, Beast! Your confidence is bold! But this draught would turn a mortal's organs to ash!
HULK
(Cracking his knuckles, smirking)
Tony talks a big game for a guy who gets a hangover from wine, Thor. I'm a giant green sponge. Pour the drink.
The crowd, led by a betting Peter Quill and a cheering Spider-Man hanging upside down from a chandelier, counts down.
THREE... TWO... ONE... GO!
They tilt the massive barrels back. Thor drinks with the practiced speed of a space god. But Hulk simply opens his massive maw and pours the glowing liquid straight down his throat like a tidal wave, his massive throat chugging in rhythmic, terrifying gulps.
Thor glances sideways out of the corner of his eye, his eyes widening in sudden, genuine panic as he sees the Hulk's barrel draining at triple his speed. Thor tries to swallow faster, amber mead spilling down his beard.
SLAM!
Hulk slams his empty, barrel-sized flagon onto the heavy wooden table, splintering the surface. He lets out a thunderous, window-vibrating burp and wipes his mouth with the back of his massive green hand.
Thor slowly lowers his half-full flagon, staring at the Hulk in absolute, stunned disbelief. The hall erupts into deafening cheers as Quill scoops up a massive pile of Asgardian gold coins.
Hulk leans across the table, a smug, giant green grin spreading across his face.
HULK
Next round is on you, Sparky.
Thor stares at his cup, looks at the Hulk, and breaks into a booming, defeated laugh as the scene fades to black.

Thanos, Kang and the Cost of Choice
Hi, I'm not a comic reader nor an expert, just voicing my thoughts. The MCU timeline is disjointed and unconnected so here is my alternate theory to fix all this.
Why does Thanos want to snap away half of all life? What if his ultimate goal is to save the multiverse?
I want to connect this to Kang: Kang still exists, but rather than preserving only one timeline, he selectively prunes thousands of timelines—essentially culling the multiverse. We eventually discover that he does this for personal gain and to consolidate his power. However, the story subtly establishes that his pruning serves a purpose beyond cruelty.
When Loki takes over and shapes the timelines into Yggdrasil, he allows the multiverse to flourish. But gradually, he notices something disturbing: the vines and branches begin to intertwine, collide and cannibalise one another.
Incursions. BOOM.
We discover that Kang was holding back the multiverse’s expansion. Too many universes begin crashing into one another, and the residue from those collisions destabilises neighbouring realities, creating a chain reaction.
This connects Kang’s pruning to Thanos’s philosophy: sacrifice part of the whole to preserve what remains.
Kang culls timelines. Thanos culls life.
Thanos believes that eliminating half of all living beings would halve the number of choices being made, reducing divergence and the creation of new timelines. In his mind, fewer possibilities mean fewer universes—and fewer opportunities for incursions.
The Snap therefore becomes his attempt to prevent a multiversal catastrophe. He sees killing half of all life as a necessary sacrifice to stop everything from being destroyed.

Just came back from watching Endgame Encore with my 11yo son, having watched most of the movies with him at home. Neither of us had seen it before. I am a complete mess, what an emotional ride. Glad I got to wait and see with my boy. Core memory unlocked.

Minor Spoiler Avengers Endgame: Encore Should be Seen as a Warning to Fans of the Series.
I have just come away from Avengers Endgame: Encore and my biggest takeaway from it is concern. Concern that Disney and Marvel have hired The Russos to chop and hack their way through the series until they forcefully create a new established canon, one that people love no matter what (something that just isn’t going to happen.) My concern comes from the fact that Encore features a scene that doesn’t make any sense, not just from a narrative point of view, but from a basic filmmaking point of view:
The one where we see Loki visit Steve and Peggy while they’re in their family home.
To put it short: in Avengers: Endgame, this scene is not real. It is a memory - or in filmmaking terms an analepsis. The scene with Peggy and Steve dancing has already happened. It was something that Old Man Steve got to experience that he was keeping to himself on the bench. If Loki was able to disturb Steve and Peggy in their home, then Steve wouldn’t have been sitting there at all, as -in the words of Wndgame itself - “His past would become his future.”
In trying to force a sequel to a film designed to be a definitive ending for a group of characters, it does appear that plot holes are starting to occur, and this one won’t be the last, as Doomsday and Secret Wars are home, not only to Marvel’s Avengers, and the characters introduced after Endgame, but also to Fox’s X-Men and Sony’s Spider-Men.
More plot holes are basically guaranteed at this point and they’re going to affect film series that Disney didn’t even create.
