Trying to get better at mangú. I have a trouble making it as good as restaurants. Maybe more butter but i feel like i already add so much. Also I have limited options near by so i use summer sausage and queso panela as substitute. I know where to get the queso de frier y salami but I cant go every time i crave it. Any suggestions for better mangú or better substitutes? I live am in Mexican area so whatever they have that may be good.

My mother used to make some staple meals that we’d have all the time growing up. For years, I thought they were pretty normal until I got older and realized no one else I knew ate them.

One meal was canned tuna mixed with mayo on white bread to make tuna sandwiches always with Lipton chicken noodle soup on the side. “Tuna fish and soup” we called it.

Another was rice at the bottom of the bowl, salad with canned salmon mixed in on top and a dressing consisting of what I think was Italian dressing and mayo together microwaved. We called it “salmon salad”.

After I realized these meals were strange I asked my mom why she made them. She said she made them because my dad’s mother (who was Dominican born and raised) used to make them for my dad and my dad liked it. I’m not super connected to my Dominican side so forgive me if this is a crazy question, but are these types of meals regular in Dominican houses at all? Or was my grandma just throwing shit together and making it up as she went.

El salami induveca es un producto casi esencial en la casa de un dominicano.

Como ávido comedor de esta marca desde AÑOS, he notado hace un buen tiempo que este ya no tiene la misma textura que el de toda la vida, en otras palabras, se ve como que tiene mas harina que carne. Y lo mas extraño es que no siempre que lo compras resulta con este cambio de ingredientes o de textura. Un dia tienes suerte y te toca uno bueno pero la mayoria de veces es esta consistencia de mas harina. O "tostadito" dirían algunos, pero evidentemente es que tiene menos carne.

Quien tambien lo ha notado? Los que no, en donde mayormente lo compran? .🤔🤔🤔🤔

Like I just go to a typical restaurant and you easily spend 1500 pesos = 25 USD per meal (propina included).

I go to a grocery store and come out with two bags worth of 5000 pesos = 83 USD for a few days of food. Just buying variety of veggies and meats. Fruits is already considered a luxury.

I go to New York in the US. I spend also the same amount and perhaps even cheaper sometimes. What the hell is wrong with this country?

What is some things every Dominican family has in their house? Food, decor, etc.?

My aunt is visiting from out of state. She is coming by late after I get off work/pick up my son from daycare. I don’t want to have nothing to offer but I also don’t intend on cooking a huge meal. Any suggestions on what to offer?

I thought about making some tostones and salami but even that seems like a lot. (Not that it’s too much work, I just have a toddler and work as a nurse so I’ll be pretty tired after work)

Sé que suena específico y algo popi querer algo como "Cheez Whiz", pero honestamente no es como que yo compraba eso a cada rato, es muy caro para mi, pero lo compré una vez y lo amé, quise probarlo de nuevo pero tengo 2 años buscándolo en supermercados, he dado vueltas al rededor del país y siempre pregunto por eso y nadie tiene. Otro producto desaparecido es el Supligen sabor mantequilla de maní, ¿dónde está eso? Por un segundo pensé que me lo soñé, pero no, es real. ¿Tendré que comprar esos dos antojos por Amazon? 😞

A los que le damos cariño a la greca todos los días, esto está durísimo. Es un video corto, pero súper interesante, porque muestra por dentro cómo sube el agua y cómo trabaja de verdad la cafetera.

Si eres de los que creció con café colado en greca en la casa, seguro vas a apreciar este dato curioso. Y no, no es un tutorial para “hacer el mejor café”, es más bien ciencia cafetera para los que nos gusta ver cómo funciona la cosa.
