In the script during their discussion in the woods, Garland talks in length about fear and love. While not stated in the script, this might be relevant to the fact that these emotions are the key to the Lodges.

Taking my friend to his first David Lynch movie in the theaters!
My personal favorite Lynch movie… my friend is a huge film buff and has always wanted to dive into David Lynch’s work. Hasn’t seen a single thing he’s done, however he’s weirdly enough read “Catching The Big Fish” so he’s at least familiar with some of David’s philosophy.
I don’t think anything can prepare him for this though!

Eraserhead theory I haven't seen anybody talk about Spoiler
TW rape, incest
I don't think the baby was premature. I don't think that's even Henry's baby. I think it's Bill's, Mr. X. I believe Henry was groomed by this family into raising a product of incest between Bill and his daughter, Mary. It was Bill's numb left arm that got me thinking (numb left arms are often prevalent when evil is lurking in Twin Peaks). One you look at the film from this angle everything changes. Mary is mad at henry but it's not because of anything he did, it's because she's completely delirious with guilt and shame. I think about the scene where she's holding onto the bars of the bed and shaking them, it's like she's begging Henry to realize that she's been imprisoned by her awful family and that she needs help.
In his entire career Lynch seems very concerned with abusive family dynamics and incest. I think this theory perfectly fits into eraserhead being a movie about being terrified of fatherhood. I'm sure plenty of paranoid fathers have had the fear of
what if I've been tricked? What if that's not my baby?
I think eraserhead is taking that fear to the absolute extreme.
Not only is that not my baby but it's very existence is a constant reminder of an incomprehensible human atrocity
Eraserhead also presents a large focus on the uncontrollable constant noises that come with living in modern America. It's so abrasive and loud and distracting and scary. You're not really able to sit quietly with your own thoughts because you always trying to tune a part of your surroundings out. When Henry is out in the world walking around, a soundtrack follows him and it almost feels like you're watching a silent film. I take this as Henry walking to his own beat, his own daydream perception of reality. Then he walks past a factory and his music is tuned out by the machinery. With all of the constant noises it becomes nearly impossible to sit with your own thoughts because your brain is constantly working on tuning it out. The noises force you to stay grounded in reality rather than daydreaming.
The radiator is constantly emitting an awful noise in Henry's apartment and as a result he doesn't have a single moment to think for himself. So the pipes start thinking for him. They show him terrifying and disturbing things like a world where children are encouraged to trade in decapitated heads for money. A world where his head is reduced to an insignificant dust to be wiped off of a table.
In the dinner scene Mr. X reveals that he has built all of the pipes in this entire neighborhood. He is the one responsible for these constant noises torturing Henry. If the man on the planet is the Wizard of Oz, pulling levers and controlling the narrative, then Mr. X is the one who installed the levers. He's the one really pulling all of the strings.
This is definitely not an all encompassing theory and it doesn't explain everything but I think it makes sense. What do you guys think? I'd love to hear your own interpretations of Eraserhead.

I want anything and everything to do with Inland Empire.
It's probably my favorite David Lynch movie of all time and one of my favorite movies of all time. I love the standard digital quality, I love the atmosphere, the dreamlike stream-of-consciousness pacing, and I deeply admire that David refused to explain it in any capacity. I've already seen "More Things That Happened", but I want more Inland Empire lore. I want to read more articles or watch behind-the-scenes featurettes. I want to dissect every part of the making of this movie and what pushed David to make it.

David Lynch on Vincent van Gogh. The quote comes from his 2006 book Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity, in the section “Suffering.”

David Lynch came to me in a dream
I had a dream in which I went to some kind of diner with David very early in the morning. No one else was there and before I order David went to the toilet there and told me to order some kind of coffee for him, any kind, he wanted a "surprise" coffee for me to choose.
While I was thinking very hardly about which coffee to choose the waitress gave me a free mini hot dog and a cookie, she said it was some special day, and since we were the first customers today we get those two free things.
I decided tk get myself a cappuccino and black coffee for him, and give him the cookie. When David came back he said that the black coffee was an excellent choice. We sat together and talked about a lot of stuff, mostly his films at first.
Then we started talking about my life but kind of like in metaphors or not directly? I dont know how to explain it but David really humbled me good and I feel like this one conversation changed a lot for me and it was what I needed. I wouldnt listen to almost anyone else because im very stubborn but when he talked I understood how much in the wrong im with everything I do, thats why I feel like it was really him and not just my imagination (might sound crazy).
I feel like my coffee choice could also mean that I stress too much about choices that I should keep simple for the best.
English isn't my first language so sorry if its hard to understand...
Did anyone else ever have a dream about David Lynch helping you with your life choices or changing you?

Is ERASERHEAD about life and death?
I know "life and death" is such a broad and universal theme - but earlier this week, my fiancée got super sick - she had the flu and she's also asthmatic so she was in cold sweat, sneezing, coughing and frequently using her nebulizer machine to breath. As I helped her and tried to make her life more comfortable and bearable - I immediate thought about ERASERHEAD (as one does ;) and I was thinking about the baby in Eraserhead being ill ("oh you are sick"), like Henry I I'm a goof trying to take care of my loved one. Also, my fiancée didn't have a proper sleep for days and she said she had weird (fever) dreams every night.
It all reminded me of Eraserhead. I also began to think if Eraserhead is about the space between life and death. I felt that The Man in the Planet is like a forceful God-like figure & The Lady in the Radiator is like both a merciful angel and the grim reaper (like Jessica Lange's character in All That Jazz). Also, I recall Lynch being struck by a biblical quote before he took on ERASERHEAD so I do think there is a religious-connection to the story (neither me or my finacée are religious - she's Jewish and I'm just a slightly chubby Polish American non-practicing Catholic guy) but maybe my childhood catholic schooling kicked in when I realized that this film might a religious film about life and death?
Am I stretching it? Is ERASERHEAD about life and death - in a sort of theological way?

David Lynch Musical Love Letter (Help needed)

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5FsP8htg0fHz92FFBrajQr?si=65a336078c1b41a7
hey everyone!
i'm sure there are plenty of people here who can help me expand this playlist.
the goal is to collect as much music as possible that was directly inspired by David Lynch's work and personality. i'm also sure there are plenty of musicians here who have created something inspired by him themselves. so please join in.
the idea is to bring together music born out of love for Lynch's worlds. treat it as our collective love letter to the other side.
so anything David Lynch made, anything he directly used in his works, or even music he personally loved is beside the point.
the playlist will be played at a memorial event dedicated to David Lynch on January 16.
all suggestions are appreciated

Why do you think Kubrick loved David Lycnh's Eraserhead?
Aside from being 'a good movie' why do you think Kubrick was so enchanted by Eraserhead?
