I canât believe today is here. It came up so quickly. I have so many feelings. The Sun and the fandom has brought me so much joy, even in such uncertain times.
I think the way it all went down is what hurts the most for me. This wasnât a normal âsaleâ, we straight up had our team stolen from us.
The W wonât even mention the last game, but constantly are pushing the comets.
Thank you all for being so kind and welcoming to everyone at the games. It has really restored my faith in humanity.
Sun foreverâď¸
Lastly: screw Cathy, screw Adam, and screw Tilman.
With the planned move to Houston next season, what are your plans? Are you sticking with the franchise? Going to jump to a different team? Giving up on the W?
For me, I love basketball and the W. I'm pretty pissed about how the relocation went down and don't really care for a Houston franchise.
I got into the W when I lived in Connecticut and so I picked the local team. I now live in Ohio and may take the Cleveland team, but idk..
I ordered this crewneck (website photo is the 2nd picture) and received a misprint that says âSunsâ plural instead of Sun. Customer services says it is not eligible for a replacement. Iâm frustrated because I bought this as a sort of âgoing awayâ gift for myself during their last game ever. Curious if anyone else had the same problem? I thought about ordering it again in the next size up, but Iâm worried itâll just be the same problem.
I am heading to my first games next week against the Valks and Lynx. I have a day between games and wondered what youâd suggest to do in the area. I am not into gambling and have spent limited time in CT. I have been to Stew Leonardâs and Twainâs house but that is about it.
I want to experience what itâs like in the area. I will have a car. I searched this subreddit but couldnât find a post like this. Please let me know if I missed it!
I had to do a custom name, but the WNBA site had the blue rebel jersey available and this is what I wanted for years. I am glad I got it now but sadly cannot wear it on game days. I will always root for AT though and happy she was a Sun player for so long. AT is tied with Cynthia Cooper as my all time favorite WNBA player and my favorite Sun player.
Hi did your household end up with multiple items during the swag giveaway after the game? I was so close to scoring a pair of shorts but they were told to stop giving them to the people waiting in section 17 right when I had my chance. Please if you got lucky and got multiple things please spare a pair of shorts to an unlucky gal. TYIA!
I'm a Sun season ticket holder, but I haven't been able to attend any games this year because we moved down south and can no longer make the trip to Mohegan. Because of that, I haven't been able to pick up my end-of-season gifts. I asked my account rep whether they could ship them to me if I covered the cost, but unfortunately that isn't something they're able to do.
Here's my offer: my two tickets to the final home game are yours in exchange for picking up the gifts and shipping them to me. I'll send you the money for shipping ahead of time so you're not out anything. If you already have tickets, I'm happy to offer my pair up to someone else here on the sub so we can fill the stands. I've given tickets away on this sub before, so I'm not new to this.
There should be two gifts, one for each seat on my account.
Feel free to send me a DM and we can exchange email or phone numbers to work out the details. These gifts would mean a lot to me as a keepsake of a great team and years of fun memories at the arena. If you're going to be in the area and are willing to help, please let me know. Thank you!
It's just a thought I had. I mean I'm satisfied with the merch I have, but I bet there would be demand for it if some clothier was able to acquire the rights.
I'm coming up from NYC with my daughter for two games in August: 25th vs Sky and 26th vs Valks. I'll have my Burke NYL jersey (we still love her) and was hoping to get it signed. Also hoping to get Aneesah Morrow or Sania Rivers to sign cards or one of the Sun satin hats.
My tickets are down near the Sun bench, in Sec 13, Row E, right in front of that corner. What's the chances of getting autographs? Do the players leave the court that way? Is there a better spot to wait post-game or pre-game? How about for the away team (she loves loves LOVES Skylar Diggins). Should I contact a rep and beg to be put on a list for post-game autograph sessions (which is what they do here in NYC)?
I'd like to go see a game before we lose having a team in New England - I haven't really followed basketball of any kind in years other than watching a little Unrivaled this past winter, and I kind of blanked on the fact going to a Sun game is a super reasonable drive for me until recently.
Since I haven't really been following along with anything, I'm not sure of the remaining games (against the Sky, Valkyries, Lynx, and Tempo) which are likely to be fun/good to watch, especially since a quick glance at the standings suggests that the some of these matchups are a little, uh, uneven. (I will, of course, root for the home team.) Thanks!
Update: Went to the game against the Sky last night and had a great time! Thanks for all the responses; I'm hoping to go to the games in September, too.
It began in 97 with a little MIRACLE near Disney World - a team with a dream that represented Orlando with pride and some magic. The new millennium turns and with it, a new chapter as the Sun rose in Connecticut. McWilliams, Sales, Whalen - a dynasty took shape. The Sun shined brightly, through seasons good and bad. The originals came and went and a new dawn emerged - Hightower, Bonner, ONO, Aaliyah and Jonquel - the future looked bright. When it was good, it was great. When it was bad, it was never boring. The sun may set for now, however women's basketball in New England will persevere in spite of Engelbert's dealings. The turnout this season proved that New England well and truly deserves a WNBA team. So as sure as the sun rises each dawn, let there be a new day and a new sunrise in New England very soon.
Posting an update and for anyone who may have missed my original post- I teamed up with a few other fans to organize an after party for after tomorrow's final ever game. Mohegan and some other incredible people came through to help us make this meet up happen and have been so supportive!
We are working on securing a DJ, will take a group photo around 10:30 pm, have ordered a big banner for folks to sign, are bringing snacks, have some photobooth props, and will be taking photos/video. You are allowed to bring food and drinks from inside the casino to the Sun Patio!
We have around 250 people RSVPed. This event is a fully fan-funded meet up that we have all come together to make possible!
We have reached out to both the tribe and the team to invite them to be part of the event. We understand they likely will be busy with their own festivities, but we wanted them to know we were grateful for them and that they are welcome. The Sun Squad has indicated they would love to come through.
If you have any questions or would like to contribute in any way, please reach out to one of us! We hope to see you there- let's go Sun!
Host Committee (+ IG handles if you want to get in touch):
Weâre heading to the game tomorrow from the Boston area and have a very old dog to get back for, so we are trying to be efficient with our travel time. Is there anything decent to eat in the arena itself, or should we try to plan some time up front to eat somewhere else? The 11 year old will be fine with microwaved chicken nuggets, but my husband and I are hoping for something slightly more edible, haha. TIA!
I know other sub members have been asking about post-game activities, such as meet-ups. If you can, definitely get in touch with the Sun org to see if you are able to participate, even if it means paying an extra fee. There are only a few home games left before the team leaves New England.
The Sun posted these photos of Aaliyah Edwards on their Facebook account.
