Charity/Assistance The wildest shit happened this morning

Good morning y'all, I just wanted to take this time to say I appreciate & love all y'all!

It's kind funny bc I saw the news this morning & was super depressed. Then, out of nowhere, a whole heap of ppl from various parts of my life all started texting that they loved & appreciated me. Didn't fix what happened, but it definitely fixed how I was feeling.

So I'm passing it on to y'all, & hope you do the same.

Hope your day goes well ❣️

Charity/Assistance Best Places to sleep in your car?

Im in between places right now and just need somewhere safe for a week or two. I can travel anywhere in the Charlotte Metro. I’m thinking about getting a planet fitness membership but I’ve seen a lot of security there.

Any places to avoid as well?

Charity/Assistance Urgent appeal from Carolina Waterfowl Rescue

I volunteer with CWR and they’re getting absolutely slammed as usual this spring/summer. Here’s the message from official channels:

Hello friends, it's that time of year again. Animals are coming in faster than we know what to do with. The rescue receives hundreds of calls every hour for animals needing help.

Unfortunately, we sometimes get caught up in trying to care for the animals and take our foot off the gas of trying to raise funds.

None of the animals come in with donations, and we rely on the support of people who care to make sure that these animals can get help.

Here are several of the stories right now of animals that we are turning away, that have nowhere to go because we don't have the funds to support their rehabilitation. We are the only place taking songbirds right now. We are getting birds from Raleigh and Charleston, and many other large metropolitan areas that do not have wildlife rehabilitation clinics.

We really hate to have to cut off access to care for animals that have nowhere to go.

If you can help out by making a donation today, it will directly impact animals waiting for care.

We have a badly injured gosling with part of his beak hanging off.

A snake that was cut in half inside of an engine.

A goose with a bone sticking out of his foot.

A dumped domestic Pekin with a badly infected foot and leg.

Baby birds injured when their nest fell onto the concrete.

Baby birds that have been fed and aspirated by the finders now need antibiotics.

This is just a partial list of calls that have come in in the last thirty minutes.

Charity/Assistance 45/F, obese, need help

** Final update ** I made a place for those that want to meet to walk!

https://www.reddit.com/r/TheyMightHaveCats/s/IWT7sCZLUc

** Update (original post below) **

Wowzers. I've received...a lot of responses. I was hoping to have a few. This means so much to me! I started out yesterday trying to respond to everybody individually. I'm still going to try, but it may take me a few days to get everybody. Also, I'm starting a spreadsheet to organize available walk times and preferred places for the wonderful ladies who messaged me!! This is awesome! Thanks, everyone!

** End updates **

Hello good people of r/Charlotte,

I'm a native of upstate South Carolina who has been living in the Charlotte area off and on since undergrad 20+ years ago.

My current situation is that I'm obese, with bloodwork numbers showing pre-diabetes, also high blood pressure, probable sleep apnea (sleep doc scheduled for November), etc. other bad health measures. Depression, anxiety are on board as well.

The last time I had a good group of girlfriends was in college. We stay in touch, but they're scattered across the country, or else busy with husbands and children (I have neither).

I have....cats. And my elderly mama.

I would really like to have someone to meet up with to go for a walk or do some sort of exercise together. Mostly, I think this would provide me the extrinsic motivation and/or accountability that I clearly need.

I don't have and can't afford exercise clothing or equipment. I have 4 of those cotton blend maxi dresses that are all over Amazon. That's my wardrobe. They are stretchy, comfy and honestly I love them.

I do have a pair of sneakers.

I can't afford a personal trainer or a gym membership or honestly anything that costs money.

So, if you're a healthy person who wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen in public with me, please reach out. Or if you know of free local resources, please shout those out.

Please note, this is a request for platonic health mentoring and/or friendship. I am not looking for anything of a romantic or sexual nature. I am not interested in that at all, with anyone.

I do know that most men are not murderers, and that women also murder. Still, I'm only open to meeting up with other women, or else co-ed groups with at least a couple other women. I can't meet up by myself with a man or men. Also, I would prefer to meet up in public areas where I would be noticed if I were being stuffed into a trunk. Which, admittedly, would be a difficult task as, once again, I am obese. Still.

Thank you for reading!

Charity/Assistance Near Concord Mills mall need help with found kittens and mom

Not sure what flair to use but we recently found these kittens stuck in the storm drains near our residence. There are four and mom is likely hanging around nearby. We are working on getting them out but have not had any luck with animal control or the fire department. Our main priority right now is trying to find someplace for them to go after we get them out but many of the shelters are at capacity or are not responding to our calls. If anyone has any helpful info please let me know. We are trying to get them someplace safe before it rains overnight and we cannot bring them into our place as they may pose a risk to our animals.

Charity/Assistance Trying to find employment

I'll keep it short and simple. I have been trying to find employment for the past 3 months after a brief stint at a job I found from this very sub where someone reached out to me but it turned out to be a startup scam. I'm a 29 year old man with a background in high school education and a degree in history. Yes I know that limits me. I've been applying and remaking my resume and reaching out since December (lost my last job right before Christmas) and haven't even had a single interview. I've tried everything. I know my experience is limited but I'm willing and able to learn new stuff. I just need consistency and structure. If anyone has any actual leads or can put me in touch with actual people, please lmk. This has been really difficult and depressing for me and I hate being unemployed. I don't have any family support and I've been getting desperate trying to find SOMETHING but even Walmart isn't communicating when I follow up.

Note: I am already applying. That's the whole thing. If you don't already have and insider you will not get hired. This is the reality now.

Charity/Assistance 31m and finding myself homeless in Charlotte

I recently packed up and moved to California for an opportunity that never panned out. I had really high hopes and the opportunity seemed like a solid choice. But 1 week later and I now find myself in Charlotte, sitting in the airport, utilizing the warm dry environment and wall outlets to keep me job searching.

I'm overwhelmed. Idk what I'm going to do when I get asked to leave for soliciting at the airport. I have no friends, family, or car right now. I have what I have on me and it's a little too much to even go to the restroom with. Afraid of getting robbed when I'm in there handling business. I have no experience with homelessness, nor experience with the area I'm in. I need help. Is there any resources I can use, anybody I can even just call and vent to? I feel my life slipping away and idk what to do.

EDIT: my friends have reached out and asked me if I would like to stay with them until christmas. I'm not completely out of the woods, but I'll have a warm bed and a hot shower and food for my belly. I can't complain. I'm honestly in tears rn as I write this because reddit gave me hope when I felt lost, and taught me that even when you feel at your lowest, There is still a way out. I feel like I owe some of you guys a lot. I can't thank this subreddit enough. This last 10 days have been hell, but I don't feel like go Ong up anymore. Thank you.

Charity/Assistance Dire Emergency - Need to borrow a car or daily ride, any assistance welcome

Hey guys. My wife and I are new here and we don't have many friends in Charlotte, so I can't even ask anyone.

In a quick summary, I work Uber and as a hockey referee, and my wife is a nurse. Off the clock, my car was totaled in a wreck on Apr 1, and a few days later, unrelated to the accident, my wife was hospitalized in and out for just shy of two weeks. Our insurance has stopped paying for our rental, and with my wife having no income for two weeks, plus being unable to drive Uber, we have no money whatsoever, and everywhere requires a down payment. If we want a decent car, it's at least $2k.

The good news is that my wife is back on her feet and working enough overtime to get a down payment in about a month, possibly 1.5 months at the most, depending on her take home.

The bad news is we have no way to get her to said job. We're far enough away from the bus stations that it's not even an option realistically. (Working a 12 hour shift plus a 4-5 hour commute is bad enough as is.) Uber rides to work cost about $60-70 per day, and we have about $90 between us in our accounts, which also has to pay for food. Even if I could sell stuff to a pawn shop, I don't have a ride there. I wanted to go donate plasma, but they took the damn car the day before I had a chance.

Hopefully, I'm praying that any one here has a spare car we can borrow, or any other options we can use for the short term. Any other suggestions, I'm open ears. If you need proof of what happened or anything like that, I'm more than willing to provide.

Thanks.

As the title says, I could use some ideas on a field I could try breaking into. I'm really good with unreal engine, blueprint, unity, and c#. Kinda intermediate with my modeling skills but nothing special. I am really handy too, did taskrabbit stuff for a while but that well has long since run dry, at best I'm getting 1-2 clients a month.

Edit: My main skills are Unreal Engine, Unity Engine, Blueprint and C# languages, I can also work blender, maya, and photoshop/gimp. I'm also an amateur carpenter and seamster

Charity/Assistance Requesting help. If you have seen Sam Haugh or Michael Olarte, please notify CMPD

We still do not know what happened to Sam Haugh who went missing on April 28th / 29th. The following info is not an accusation but provided to establish a timeline so we can find out what happened to Sam.

Sam Haugh moved from Pennsylvania to be with his new boyfriend (first serious relationship) , Michael Olarte on April 1st. Sam was in constant contact with his family until April 28.

Sam was seen entering a hotel on Hankins Rd on the 28th. Around 6:30am on the 29th, Sam’s boyfriend , Michael Olarte, was seen purchasing a large bin from the Walmart on 11145 Bryton Town Center Dr, Huntersville, NC with Sam’s credit card.

Michael then allegedly went to Lowes and purchased fertiliser and mulch.

Michael was later said to be seen on video leaving the hotel on Hankins Rd with what appeared to be a very heavy storage bin on a dolly. He was allegedly seen on video struggling to lift the bin into his car.

It was then reported by authorities that Michael may have driven to Evergreen Nature Preserve. On May 5th, police reported that Michael Olarte committed suicide near Firelight Ln.

We do not know why Sam disappeared or if Michael Olarte had anything to do with it, But Olarte may have been one of the last people to see Sam before he disappeared. Unfortunately , he is not here to be questioned so this is why we need the public’s help.

If you have seen Sam or Michael between mid-April to May 5th, please notify CMPD. Even a small tip may prove crucial in helping to find out what happened to Sam Haugh. His family is grieving and needs to know what happened to him.

We will not be silenced. We will not, ever, give up on Sam.

Charity/Assistance Help For Homeless Woman in Monroe

Hi,

I am in Monroe because I am escaping human trafficking and homeless. I have contacted social services and was able to get food assistance. I contacted the shelter when I first arrived and contacted them again when I was at social services. They said I have to go there and provide proof that I am in Monroe and I have that, but they said it would be 2-3 weeks wait.

The police here have acted very aggressively towards me. They threatened me with arrest for sitting with a sign at Walmart on Roosevelt.

On Tuesday, my pushcart broke and I was able to drag my property to the corner where a hotel is. I had no money for transportation to get anywhere, no money to get a new pushcart, no phone to call anyone and I don't know anyone buying a very nice couple from the internet that helped me.

My phone just makes emergency calls. I sat there with my sign and someone helped me with a donation to get a pushcart, but I still needed help to get somewhere.

I made the mistake of calling the police to see if they would help and all they did was pull aggressively and issue me a citation knowing that I'm a trafficking victim and knowing I had no other options to get help.

Are there any organizations that are willing to help with transportation to drive me to a more homeless friendly place or organizations that would help with a few items of winter gear and a small tent so I would be able to start walking. I need a small tent for shelter to rest if I'm having to walk a long way and if there is rain.

I contacted:

The Monroe Shelter - 2-3 week wait after providing documentation

The domestic violence shelter - not an option for me.

Social Services - provided food assistance

Heart of Monroe - emailed and received no response.

Crisis Assistance Ministry - they said they don't help with tents.

Operation Reach Out - they don't have tents in stock and didn't provided the phone number of a woman I haven't had the opportunity to call because my phone just makes emergency calls and has internet.

I feel like Monroe police are trying to escalate by constantly harassing me. I have never witnessed any other homeless person panhandling getting harassed by police. When I ask where it's legal to be or sleep, they don't have an answer and insist that panhandling is illegal. The ordinance says you have to have a license and doesn't say anything about prohibiting a person from having a sign.

I don't have a way to call and get information about obtaining a license or transportation to get to city hall or wherever to get one.

I filed a complaint last night and the cops appeared where I was earlier today. I'm thankful for any help or suggestions.

Charity/Assistance Dog fostering/ rehoming resources?

I know this is against community guidelines but I’m just looking for resources. I’m in a bit of a mental health crisis and cannot keep my 9 year old pit lab mix. I would be happy to provide more information, if anyone can help me find a foster parent, or knows any places that assist with the fostering process let me know

Charity/Assistance Could anybody help me out?

Hello, to make a long story short: my cousin had a mental health break recently and went to Billingsley Behavioral Health about a day or two ago. However, my mom and I have no idea if she's actually there, as she hasn't contacted anyone since she left her home, and that's obviously worried the rest of our family.

Would anybody happen to know a number that would let us contact the location and simply check that she's there? My mom said she's tried multiple numbers, but they've all been to crisis hotlines. We just wanna make sure she made it, since she lives in Concord and it's a bit of a drive.

Edit: Good news! We've gotten information she's safe. Thankfully, she's in Davidson at the moment. Thanks for everyone giving good information.

Charity/Assistance Need ideas for a tree removal from neighbor's yard. She can't afford the cost.

Last week during all the rain, a large limb fell from our neighbors very large tree and landed in her other neighbor's driveway and yard. With it, a very large crack appeared that split the tree down the middle of the trunk till about 10 feet off the ground. The rest of the tree and it's limbs are weighted towards my property. A tree service came to remove the fallen limb from the other neighbor's property and the head Arborist said that the tree really needed to to come down. He wouldn't send any of his guys to climb it and said he needed to bring in the crane... so the cost would be $4000 for it's removal and she can't afford any of it. It was left standing as is.

Ourselves and our kids have to walk through the potential fall zone every day, so now it has become a threat for our safety and our property. I'm reaching out to look for any ideas to see what options you all might know that could be a solution to help her out. She's older and lives alone with no family around. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. We don't want to get her in trouble with enforcement since she's down on her luck and a sweet woman. Just looking for a solution that would make the scenario safe for us by getting that tree down... compassionate and affordable tree services, arborist schools looking for practice, etc. Thank you for the help!!
