You dial up the one play that can knock you out of field goal range in OT there? Brutal way to kill cfp hopes...
Also, move to American announced, has Sun Belt Billy lost his powers?

u/SlapNuts1999 5d ago
JMU forgets how to play football against App State. Same dynamic JMU had with North Dakota State during the FCS years

That 1st down in OT had me baffled.
3
u/therealwillhepburn 5d ago
Having not watched the game was it a trick play or some sort of ill-timed end around?
35
u/Middle_Wheel_5959 5d ago
I’m never watching a JMU game in the city of Pittsburgh ever again

u/pleasestoptalkin 5d ago
Funniest thing was watching this sub act like Napier had changed. Idk how everyone forgot his terrible clock management, player management, and play calling skills. He’s just playing at a lower level of competition in the sunbelt.
12
u/JeffGoldblumsChest 5d ago
I was gonna say... he's a great recruiter, no question. But he only really succeeds when he can out-talent the competition. His game-day coaching sucks butt.
7
u/HOW_YA_DAINSTA 5d ago
That is classic Billy Napier. I guarantee it came from him. He always calls trick plays at the worst times and they never work.

That's what happens to Billy when you announce you're leaving the Sun Belt.

American Billy does not have the same ring

American Billy! Stay away from meeeeee - Lenny Kravitz, ball knower

u/BuckeyeForLife95 5d ago
Genuinely didn’t know Lenny Kravitz had a cover of that song.
3
u/RonMexico13 5d ago
Impressive, you must have blacked out during the late 90s. The original is way better anyways.

There is already an angry mob looking door to door for him in Harrisonburg

Sir, has a second dog shit eating promise hit the towers? I'm out of the loop here.

u/Nike_Phoros 5d ago
Just throwing this out there, can any BYU fans threaten to eat dog shit if UCF upsets them this weekend?
1
u/TerpsNPhoenix 5d ago
Not a BYU fan but I’ll eat a hot dog if UCF upsets BYU. They aren’t quite the same…but they aren’t that different either /s.

u/Shenanigangster 5d ago
Isn’t (or I guess wasn’t) that dude one of the most active JMU burners? How will they fill that hole?

App State is what ECU fans think our program still is (complimentary). There's a reason why App State remains a solid standard for G6 programs. Good win ‘Neers.
83
u/AppStateFooseBall 5d ago
I want to see both of our teams rise. The local support and attendance our fans bring blows other G6 teams out of the water.
23
u/McLeansvilleAppFan 5d ago
And having App and ECU doing good takes some of the shine off the UNC-CHeats of the state.
21
u/Sweden13 5d ago
I moved to the East Carolina area from Alabama (not even Greenville), and the amount of support for ECU took me off guard. I lived closer to Troy or South than either Alabama/Auburn, and I pretty much never saw any G6 support around there, while it seemed much more robust over there.
18
u/HeadElderberry7244 5d ago
ECU fans are rabid. I remember going to games in the mid 2010s when they were solid and it was always wild.
I saw many many things for the first time at those tailgates…
11
u/justgivemedamnkarma 5d ago
North carolina has so many colleges that I think its a cultural thing at this point
1
u/Mickey_Clips 5d ago
Would be awesome to see the local support...IF WE PLAYED IN BOONE!!!! One Charlotte game is enough. Let us enjoy a win at home for christ sake!

u/NameIdeas 5d ago
Can we get ECU in the SunBelt? Built in in-state competition. You'd have a coastal- Eastern game set up and ready...
25
u/hurricanedog24 5d ago
The G6s need to become more regional. Their most marketable matchups are rivalry games, and localized matchups breed hate, which brings viewership.
I wish that the financial disparity between the AAC and the SunBelt wasn’t so large, because I think ECU would be a great fit culturally.
2
u/AppMtb 5d ago
I have a feeling ESPN is going to cut back on g6 investments to pay for the CFP expansion. AAC/SBC/MAC/CUSA are going to have to find another media partner or take a haircut/not as much of a bump on the next MRD.
As long as the current lineup holds and as long as Navy is in the aac they’ll always get more, but it should get a lot closer in a few years
4
u/MasterRKitty 5d ago
I got downvoted hard for saying I'd like to see the ECU Appy State game as a conference game.
2
u/sneakypenguin94 3d ago
Everyone agrees with this, including ECU fans now. But sadly they can’t leave the American while they’re getting paid more
6
u/SolarIonRobot 5d ago
ECU should be an ACC backfill if there is justice. They've been paying their dues for decades and consistently have the top attendance among the G6.
1
u/akrafty1 5d ago
I would love to see App and ECU play regularly. I think that has amazing in state rivalry potential.
I hear the Sunbelt has a spot…
1
u/jmt85 5d ago
Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought App had really fallen off these last 5 years or so?
4
u/HueyLongest 5d ago
From 2022-2025 we went 6-6, 9-5, 5-6, and 5-8. But this is the second year of a new coaching staff and their first recruiting class was the best in Sun Belt history. We're currently 5-2 and could have won both of the losses. I don't think we're dead as a program. And this whole time we've never stopped selling out every game

It was really just 2024 that we were truly shameful. Shawn Clark (RIP) was pretty much a lame duck at that point and the Boone magic was drained—no big upsets or College Gameday bangers. 2025 was a full rebuilding year after hiring Dowell Loggains so it was bumpy. This year is where things finally seem to be falling into place.

Not just Oregon State, but Boise State, New Mexico and North Dakota State. James Madison will now easily be behind any of those teams that win out.

Sliding NDSU in there like their SOS and SOR aren’t both worse with the same record as us.

Boise State is still in consideration in theory - perhaps even the theoretical frontrunner out of those - but the chances of our secondary stopping Legree is so close to zero, it's not actually likely Boise State makes it. Unstoppable force meets movable object type scenario.

would be unfathomably funny if you guys get to the playoffs before USC or UCLA do. I really hope it happens

This definitely helps oregon state’s chances. I’m still not sure the committee would let a 2 loss g6 in over a 1 loss g6, but beating boise st possibly twice would definitely be the strongest win any g6 could realistically get
31
u/FreeVBucksforXMAS 5d ago
I think they should respect the schedule and willingness to schedule 2 P4 opponents

2023: JMU is undefeated and loses to App St. in overtime.
2026: JMU is undefeated and loses to App St. in overtime.
App St. will continue to be JMU's Achilles heel until morale improves. GGs, Boone was rocking tonight.
51
u/HeadElderberry7244 5d ago
Then again, I’ll never forget when JMU came back from 23-3 at halftime and beat us at the rock.
37
u/Adventurous-While-84 5d ago
You guys have tonight, but that’s not going to stop me from correcting you that that game was actually 28-3

11
u/HeadElderberry7244 5d ago
Yeah, even worse. It was a long, depressing drive home back to charlotte that night.
7
u/chokanery 5d ago
Coming back from 21-0 down at half to win 35-32 in 2008 is also a precious memory :)
2
u/yesiambear 5d ago
Was there, top three all-time sporting event Ive attended. Only time I've stormed the field, loved it. Students were leaving at halftime ad my roommate and I kept saying "I wouldn't do that." Then Scotty McGee.....and the rest is history

u/Far-Faithlessness51 5d ago
We had one beautiful comeback and one beat down but app wins the series in sun belt play. We will see how thing pan out with American move timing but JMU is 2-3 in the series
7
4
u/hucareshokiesrul 5d ago
And the basketball team that beat Wisconsin in the NCAAT only lost 3 games before the tournament. 2 of them were to App St.

If your first decision was always to call the most obvious stupid trick play first play in OT why not just skip that and go for 2 with your best 2 pt play in regulation?
48
u/DrippyBurritoMD 5d ago
That is what I don’t get. If you’re gonna run a really risky trick play why not do it on the 2 yard line?
25

u/_CorduroySuit_ 5d ago
Google Miracle on the Mountain. Napier threw a pick on a 2 pt conversion against App as Furham QB

u/Frosty-Tiger-85 5d ago
So essentially Billy is just cursed when it comes to App State

Motion to schedule home and homes every year in perpetuity?
There were a couple years there where we didn’t hold up our end of the deal. But my God, I’m going to miss this. I’ve been telling everyone who would listen for 20 years that this game needs to happen every year.

I just smashed a TV in front of 50 people having dinner at Primanti Bros because of Cam Aiken. Vinegar based Coleslaw and Yuenglings flew through the air as people screamed. My wife just took our crying kids and said they’re all spending the week at the Hotel Madison. Cam Aiken has ruined my life and my marriage. I can’t handle this anymore. Goodbye Cam Aiken. I am no longer a fan

Also, App State read JMU’s first play of OT like a book 😆
