Spoilers inside! How would The First and Jasmine coexist? If at all
Ok, so, since Buffy season 7 and Angel season 4 were happening more or less concurrently with one another, I kind of wonder how both Big Bads were going to coexist if they were to win. On the one hand, we have The First Evil. Its goal was to destroy the Slayer line and rule the world presumedly with the Uber Vamps as its foot soldiers. I'm assuming this wouldn't be great for humanity, and the world would be engulfed in evil.
Then we have Jasmine. A rogue Power that Be. Her true goal was to rule the world under seemingly benevolence. All would unite under worship of her, thus ending all war and obtaining "world peace".
These plans seem to contradict one another. Especially since Jasmine seemed to want to take down all demons as well. How would these two beings co-exist? If at all? Would they soon go to war with one another? And if so...who would be victorious?

Good Vibes Only What Buffy season is your #1 comfort season?
Title is simple for the ones who sleep with the TV on or want something of comfort to watch like a cozy blanket what season of BTVS is that for you?
For me it's season 1 for it being low stakes, simple, straight to the point nothing bizzare. it's just a teenager and her best friends and their librarian fighting demons and vampires. nothing melodramatic just a whole lot of fun.

Spoilers inside! Watching my first-time friend watch Passion (2x17)
I am in for a treat of a lifetime...one of my good friends has agreed to watch the entirety (we'll see, but so far so strong) of Buffy with me. I've seen the show probably around 5ish times, I think, with a handful of eps countless times. But I've never had the pleasure of living through someone else's viewership and it is INCREDIBLE. Getting to vicariously live through his first-time reactions has been a dream.
Anyway, last night we finally crossed the threshold of emotional devistation and reached Passion. His call on the episode, right when Buffy gives Jenny permission to go after Giles again, was hoping that Jenny was being truthful this time when she said she wanted to help Buffy and make up the betrayal from Surprise. I loved this take. Jenny has been shady for some time now. Obviously since Surprise, but even since The Dark Age the show's been seeding that something is up with her, and the back-and-forth of her and Giles' relationship has really fuelled that fire.
The best part of the episode though, is our mutual crush on Jenny. Since getting older, Jenny Calendar has grown on me as a character. I do wish the show gave her more space in her heritage (it's always felt last-minute to me, and I wished we had slightly more foreshadowing on her Roma heritage--would have been much-needed representation; but to love the thing is to criticize it etc etc etc). Nevertheless, I can't help but think she's such a cool cat. You would have caught me hanging out in her classroom when I was in high school 100%. My friend heartily agreed, and loved to expouse on how much he loved her.
***HEAVY SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT!!***
When we got to THE SHOT, his first reaction was 'That's so crazy haha. Because Jenny isn't dead. Duh." I could hear the sarcasm in his voice, obviously, we both knew she was, but his insistance that she wasn't absolutely sent me. And then of course, on seeing Giles reaction, he kept insisting she would somehow make it out of this.
So after the episode ends I paused on our watch-through and he just goes, "WHAT THE F*** STORM! F***! F***!" with me cackling in the background. I pointed out his reaction to Flutie dying in The Pack and he goes, "That was different because I DIDN'T HAVE A CRUSH ON FLUTIE!" I do love how hard he took that death though, his reaction was very much the same ("Wow, they really just f***ing killed him I guess"). I can't wait until we get to Becoming Pt1 and 2.
Anyway, Passion rules. I've come around to it so much more since my initial viewing. Buffy really takes off after 2x3 and 2x7, and obviously 2x13 is an incredible turning point, but I'd argue 2x17 is where Buffy locks in everything about it that is so perfect--the unwillingness to hold back, the twist of the knife (ugh, Giles' reaction), and even the little details (Jenny foreshadowing the floppy disk at the beginning of the episode with 'And I want a paper copy and a disk copy', Joyce and Buffy talking about Buffy's first time, Angel spying on Buffy and Willow's reactions to the news). It's just a masterpiece.

Introspective Anyone see Nightbreed and find a lot of influences on Buffy?
Forgive me, it's been years since I saw Nightbreed, but someone posted this on another sub and I remembered how much of the movie I saw in Buffy. Sort of humanizing of the Demon world, exploration of their lore, the main character is very much an Angel type stand in.
Lots more parallels that I've forgotten but wondering what you all think.

Xander An Unsolicited Rant on Xander’s “I was the first to hate Angel” speech in S2. E17. Passion 🙄🤮🤬 Spoiler
Ms.C was just fucking murdered!!!
No one gives a single flying fuck that you were the first to hate Angel!
No, you don’t get credit for that; the only reason you started despising him was because Buffy wanted him and not you.
Xander can be funny at times, but far too often he is just so!!! friggin!!! annoying!!!
okay, end of my rant, but please feel free to share your own on any of the times the characters made you want to hurl a giant Demonology book at them!
Edit: the amount of notifications I saw upon loading Reddit had me a little wary but y’all DELIVERED!!! Loved seeing everybody’s takes!
Just finished the Swim Team Turns Into Creatures from the Black Lagoon episode and loved watching Coach’s fate after all the nasty comments he made to Buffy and the shit he pulled with the Nurse and the team. (Also, OMFG IT’S THE GUY FROM PRISON BREAK!!!)

Season Two what's your favourite fit from season 2?

Anya Anya is the Anti Angel
I've been thinking about how Anya and Angel are basically total opposites of each other despite having pretty similar origins.
Both spent centuries as demons murdering people, they were both promised a whole new world if they joined the demon (Darla and D'Hoffryn) who turned them into what they are.
Angel gets his soul back and lives with the guilt of everything he did without a soul, Anya loses her powers and spend seasons talking about her demon days like it's a trip down memory lane.

Angel Angelus likes William's poetry.
It has always struck me that Angelus enjoyed William’s poetry. After all, Angelus is a complete sadist and a psychopath, while William’s poetry is quite bright—it doesn’t deal with dark or sordid themes. It’s also interesting that, while Victorian society mocked William’s poetry, Angelus—the psychopath—actually liked it. Perhaps Angelus identified with William, given that both were artists: William was a poet, and Angelus—in his own mind, at least—was an artist of horror and evil. Alternatively, Angelus might have seen William as someone similar to Liam—a person misunderstood by the society of that era.

Whedonverse is Buffy surging in popularity a ton right now or is it just my algorithm picking up on posts?
Repost from the other subreddit cause I didn’t realize I posted in the smaller one
Hey everyone,
I’m wondering if other people can help me gauge this. It’s so weird seeing my social media suddenly be filled with a bunch of Buffy videos and posts everywhere, when I don’t even think I interact with them much, from accounts I don’t even follow. I’m an older Gen Z but I’ve been a very out and proud fan for over a decade, haha. I used to have a fan edit account on insta in like 2016 and I can confirm firsthand that the Buffy fan community on there was a very lowkey, small place back then!!!
I’m sure the cancelled reboot brought some attention but still, this seems crazy to me. And i heard that there is suddenly a primak merch line??? Like what? (how are people going to know that my Sunnydale sweater is from 2014 😔 jk)
Yet I feel like what I’m seeing on social media feels outsized in comparison to how much its popularity is actually rising irl— maybe? Maybe not? Idk. Obviously the internet is an exponentially huger place now than it was back then. But I’m wondering if yall think that the overall fan base has gotten a lot bigger recently.

NEW VIEWER - No spoilers please! I couldn't help but think about the Cornell situation while watching this episode. (Season 2 episode 5)
My first time watching through (40 year old). This episode...wow. I can't begin to tell you the anger I felt while watching this and being reminded of that horrible situation at Cornell. This type of behavior won't ever stop, and has always been. I don't know if this subject has been discussed here, but I'm interested in hearing peoples thoughts

Vampires Why is it fair for Spike to blame Souled Angel for "turning him into a monster"?
Most of the time I see Angel and Spike's fight from the Angel episode Destiny being brought up, it is in the lines of cheering on Spike for reading Angel to filth. Yet, most fans of Spike don't blame him for the evil deeds he committed, because they consider his soul to make him ontologically a different person. But the only way you can really agree with Spike here is if you don't excuse him with his lack of soul, but rather you just blame every evil he's done on Angelus' training, and does anyone really agree with that?
And by the way, I don't agree with Angel there either. He was a massive hypocrite regarding Spike in S5.

Season Six Vampire Xander as season 6 big bad
I just thought of this. Wouldn’t it have been an awesome way to evolve his character and have great drama? You could have the rest of the plot points roughly the same as they are in season 6, but having Xander would add a whole new context. Xander’s character had finalised in season 5, and in 6 they wanted to bring about his shadow by having him leave Anya at the alter. But imagine he did it because he had been secretly turned into a vampire and he was doing it to deliberately break her heart.
Of course if Willow is also turning dark then it might be a bit much, also I have no idea who is gonna save who then…
What do you guys think? Do you love vampire xander as much as me?
