Expectations of bridesmaids

I’m a bridesmaid for my friend and I just wanted to know what is normal and what is not normal on relation to what we should or shouldn’t pay.
I’m going on an abroad hen at the start of next year which will come to around £800 in total. The bride is also then having an abroad wedding where flights are coming out around £500 and accommodation on top of that for close to a week. I have now found out that we will be paying for our own dresses, shoes, make up and hair. Am I right in thinking this is crazy?! Or am I just a cheap skate

Bridesmaid dress makes me feel weird

Post image
4 Upvotes

Don’t mind my living room I’ve been cleaning it.

I ordered this dress back in August for my best friends wedding next year. I ordered early because I could afford it at that time and I’m aware all I need to do is get alterations but I’m my witts end of how I’m feeling.

I’ve been on a glp-1 since July so I’ve lost some weight since ordering it and even when I got it, it was big on me.
My best friend (the bride) says she loves it on me but it’s hard to see the vision when it doesn’t fit right.

What can I do at this point in time to be okay with the dress and not get a new one just because it doesn’t fit right now??

Stressing over bridesmaid selection

I’ve always wanted a bridal party. When I imagined my wedding, I always pictured having a girl squad get ready with me etc.
the problem is, I have multiple different friends groups and I can’t just choose every girl from each group. I’d have like 15+ girls as bridesmaids.

The dilemma I’m facing is more so with my long time high school friend group. One already got married and I was her bridesmaids. I am just not that close with her, and just feel like we’re so different. But if I don’t make her my bridesmaid, I will def hurt her feelings. The rest of them, i just don’t talk to as often, but we know we’re close because we have a long history. We’ll catch up every other month. A part of me feels like I have to include them in my wedding just because they’ve been my longest friends.

What do I do..

February bridesmaids look

I'm having a hard time choosing the bridesmaids look and now I'm spiraling.

My fiance and I decided on a burgundy color palette. My florist mentioned that our burgundy flowers would be closer to Cabernet if using BG for our dresses. I studied my swatch sample tonight and the fabric is darker than I imagined, but that's only half of my battle.

My bridesmaids have expressed enthusiasm for burgundy velvet dresses and faux fur stoles. That all sounds very luxurious, but not really me. I love a good chiffon dress though! I really like the Berry color on BG, magenta has always been my favorite color, but I was told it probably wouldn't compliment a lot of bridesmaids. I'm also worried that in certain lights, it'll look too pink, too.

I'm so torn and lost about everything. I wanted jewel tones, then wanted something moodier, but now I'm feeling brighter - I can't decide! I thought all the color coordinating was supposed to be the fun part! I tried using AI to preview different fabrics and similar colors for dresses, but everything feels off to me now. I'm too overwhelmed and my wedding is less than 4 months away.

I could use some support and advice on this. It feels so silly to ask but I'm losing sleep over this.

Dress colors

I’ve had two bridesmaids cancel or will probably cancel because I’m having a destination wedding. My dream was to have my bridesmaid dresses be sunset colors but because I’m down to 4, now I’m just choosing 4 tropical colors that look good together. Trying to decide between picture 1 or 2. All girls have actually purchased the dresses in picture 1 but one girl in orange got the wrong fabric and now needs to exchange the dress so I was thinking about asking her to switch to fuschia since she has to go through the exchange process anyway. Which picture combo looks the best?

Help me pick a theme for my bridesmaids dresses

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

My original idea was to have everyone pick one one color from the palette from slide 1 (6 colors to choose from and 5 girls) with an olive/moss color, a dusty plum color, berry, light pink, light blue and a tangerine color.

I then started to think it would get too confusing and look too busy, people might not know they are my bridesmaids? So I decided to pick what colors from the palette I liked the most and I came up with the different shades of pink (Slide 2) to keep it in the same color family without so much variation and to avoid any confusion.

Then I saw photos of the berry color, my favorite from both palettes, (slide 3) and I liked the way that looked as well.

I’m not sure which look I like better, I definitely think the monochrome is more elegant and polished looking, but I do think there is a lot more flexibility and fun in mixing in some other shades.

Opinions?

Dealing with bridesmaid regret

Has anyone had a bridesmaid in your wedding that you regret asking? Is it that big of a deal? Did it affect your wedding day? Do you regret it when you look at wedding pictures?

What to wear under this dress

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Hello! I’m hoping somebody can help me figure out what to wear under this dress for the top. It has padding sewn in and boning on the side. I’m about a D/DD and when I’m trying it on and lifting everything, I feel like the pads are not healing the situation at all. I have some tape (I’ve never used it before) which I think would help but I don’t know what else to do so that everything sits where it’s supposed to.

Thanks for your help!

Bridesmaid advice

I need some advice….I’m trying to figure out my bridesmaids. There are five of us in our friend group, including me, and I’ve decided that three of the girls will be in my wedding party. I’m planning to talk to the fourth girl and let her know that she won’t be a bridesmaid. We just haven’t been as close as we used to be, and although I still care about her and value our friendship, I’m having a hard time figuring out how to approach the conversation without hurting her feelings, especially since we’re all part of the same friend group…

Is the hairstyle I want too similar to the bride’s?

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m going to be a bridesmaid, and I’m trying to decide on a hairstyle for the wedding.

The bride has chosen a beautiful updo with a side-swept front section and loose curls. I was thinking about wearing a low bun with a few loose pieces framing my face, but now I’m worried that my hairstyle might look too similar to hers.

I definitely don’t want to take attention away from the bride or look like I’m trying to copy her hairstyle. I just want to look elegant and feel pretty too!

Do you think the hairstyles are too similar, or am I overthinking it? I’d really appreciate your honest opinions!

I’ll attach pictures of both hairstyles for comparison, Thank you! 💕

Have to give a wedding toast for my mom and I have no clue what to say. Can anyone give advice?

My mom is getting married to this guy she met two years ago. They met while I was in college, pretty far away, so I've only seen the guy like 3 or 4 times. During Christmas and a couple breaks. And when I've seen him he's only been around for a couple days and he's pretty shy so I know next to nothing about him.

What I do know is that he was previously married and has a son. He works remotely doing advertising I think, but he offloads most of the work doing AI which I personally am not comfortable with. I know he likes classic metal bands like iron maiden. I can't recall any memory where he has done something special for her. Nothing she's told me about. She tells me about the bad stuff like when he broke up with her over email while he was on a trip. He seems kind of incompetent about a lot of things. He wanted to wear sneakers to the wedding, he put off buying a suit until the last minute and didn't try it on after alterations until the day before and complained about the fit. He can't iron his suit, can't tie his tie. I'm kind of confused about him but at this point its not my place to be concerned. Im sure I'm only hearing about the vents/negative stuff and he's been stressed lately.

I didn't think she'd get married again so I was super unprepared for this. She has had many long term relationships, people she thought she'd spend the rest of her life with and spent like almost a decade with but marriage didnt come up.

I feel anxious about the whole thing, so I can't think of heartfelt things to say about the couple. I know weddings are supposed to be a big important event, but I can't really bring myself to feel much about this one. Anyway does anyone have any advice for coming up with a toast when you don't know what to say?

Last minute bridesmaid drop out due to medical issues

This is part venting and also if anyone has gone through something similar?

I’m a bridesmaid and my friend is getting married in a week oversea but unfortunately I just injured my knee and after all my scans, it turns out I’ve torn a few ligaments and my meniscus. I’m currently using crutches because I can’t walk and need to book in for surgery soon.

I only just found out this information today but I have no idea how to bring it up to the bride that I can’t be her bridesmaid. I feel so bad and guilty but it’s physically impossible for me to make it oversea. I’m so anxious on telling her or how to even go about telling her. I’m worried this would ruin our friendship Any tips? Suggestions?

Bridal shower games?

I am throwing a bridal shower for my 31 year-old niece. She says that she wants lots of games. I already am planning a ring hunt, where I hide about 100 rings around the venue, and everybody has a chance to hunt for them and whoever has the most by dessert wins a prize. What are some other games that would be appropriate and will encourage people to interact with each other and have fun? All suggestions are appreciated.

Thoughts about wedding invitation

Is it necessary to ask if pwede ba ma bridesmaid kahit half sister mo?

Kakasal na brother ko. Di kami ganon ka close since separate kami pinalaki, pero na bigla lang ako na kasali na ako sa GC lol. Wala man lang paabiso, buti pa pa pinsan ko kinausap ng sister in law ko if “Will you be my bridesmaid?”

Should I come ba? Very Inappropriate lang kasi invitation lol 😂

Best friend scheduled her wedding and I have a conflict on that date- what to do?

I am one of four bridesmaids in Bride A’s wedding. Her bachelorette was planned a year in advance for next summer, with housing selected and paid for. My best friend, bride B, just got engaged and scheduled her wedding for that weekend. It is likely bride B will ask me to be a bridesmaid. The bachelorette and wedding are across the country from each other. I am closer with bride B but I committed to bride A first. What would you do here? I could attend bride B wedding and catch a flight in the early am for the final night of bride A’s bachelorette. Very costly but possible.

Bridesmaids don’t like each other- help

I have four bridesmaids and 2 of them clearly don’t like each other. They seemed totally fine with one another and we did a few dinners with all the girls and they both went wedding dress shopping with me. But then one of them (let’s call her Samantha) was obviously cold to the other (we’ll call her Iris) one day when we went out. Iris didn’t take it well and unfollowed her on social media. I haven’t talked to Samantha about what has been going on or why she suddenly started acting cold towards Iris. They haven’t seen each other since that day. Iris refuses to hang out with Samantha. I feel almost guilty when I hang out with the other and like I shouldn’t tell them when I was with the other person. Im worried Iris is going to blow up at Samantha if they’re around each other (she’s a bit of a loose cannon at times).

It’s very disappointing because I want to hang out with my bridesmaids but I feel like it would be so awkward if I did because it’s not like I have 10 bridesmaids and they can sit at opposite ends of the table. I’m now in a position where I’m dreading my bachelorette trip and even the morning of my wedding, getting ready with them and my mom. I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to tell them they can’t be my bridesmaids. I know I need to talk to them but I just don’t know how to approach it. I feel like they just need to talk it out and hug but I don’t see either of them doing that because they’re both very stubborn and once they dislike someone- that’s it. Their minds won’t change.

Has anyone else dealt with this? If so, how did you handle it? My wedding is 4 months away and instead of being excited, I’m extremely stressed.

MOH acting like it’s her wedding

I’m a bridesmaid in my friend’s wedding and the MOH (bride’s bff) is acting strange like it’s her wedding. Always saying “we like this” “we think these florals are the best” “we think this should be the order that the bridesmaids stand in” (we as in her & the bride). This is so weird??? I’ve been MOH before and I neverrrrr acted that way. Any of yall have experience with this? I’ve never even met this girl but she seems weirdly possessive.

8-hour car ride to bachelorette destination?

The MOH is planning it and brought up the idea of doing a road trip that's 8 hrs. If it was local or even a cabin trip in the area where I could come back home at night I'd go. I am a bridesmaid btw.

What would you do?

I'll still be attending her bridal shower, but just not the bachelorette if it's really far and if it's a crazy budget we have to split as we still have our dresses.

What do I do about a casual invite to Bach trip?

Okay, I need some advice because I feel like I put myself in an awkward situation.
For the past three years, I've gone to my fiancé's friend Tim's house a few times a year to hang out and drink with his group of friends. I've known Tim since college, and we've spent a lot of time together over the years. He's also in our wedding party.
I've gotten to know his friends pretty well, and I genuinely really like them. Every time I see them, we have such a good time, and they always make me feel like I'm part of their friend group. That being said, we're not necessarily close friends outside of those get-togethers. We follow each other on social media, but we don't really talk or hang out otherwise. It's more of a friendship where we pick up right where we left off whenever we see each other.
Anyway, this past weekend, I was at Tim's house, and I started talking about my bachelorette trip. I'm already inviting quite a few girls who aren't in my wedding party, and the trip is across the country. Originally, we had more people going, but a few canceled, so now we have a house that sleeps 13 people with only 10 girls attending.
While we were talking about it, I casually told two of the girls that they were more than welcome to come because, in my mind, the more the merrier. I said this before I even started drinking, so it's not like it was just a drunken invitation. At the time, I didn't really think they would take it that seriously, but the trip ended up coming up multiple times throughout the night.
Here's where I'm conflicted. I genuinely wouldn't mind if they came, and I think we could have a really fun time. However, as the night went on, they got extremely drunk, were throwing up everywhere, and honestly became a bit of a liability. Now I'm second-guessing whether I actually want to invite them on a trip across the country, where I really don't want to spend my bachelorette weekend worrying about other people.
There's also a separate issue involving Tim's girlfriend. I mentioned that she could come too, and I would actually be completely fine with her joining us. However, later that night, Tim told me he's been thinking about breaking up with her. Obviously, that makes things a little more complicated, especially because I don't know what their relationship will look like by the time of the trip.
Now I'm stuck because I don't know what the right thing to do is. Part of me feels like I should just text the two girls, send them the trip information, and let them decide whether they actually want to come. I honestly don't even know if they would follow through, considering the cost and the fact that it's across the country.
At the same time, I'm worried about inviting people I'm not particularly close with and potentially creating unnecessary stress during my bachelorette weekend. But I also don't want to hurt their feelings, make them feel excluded, or seem like I was being fake when I invited them in the first place.
So my question is: Should I follow through and send them the information because I already extended the invitation, or is there a way to handle this without making things awkward? And how should I approach the situation with Tim's girlfriend?
I know I'm probably overthinking this, but I genuinely like these girls and don't want anyone to feel bad. I also want to make sure I'm surrounding myself with people who will make my bachelorette trip fun rather than stressful.

Not my best friend’s bridesmaid

The wedding is this weekend. I need advice on how to handle the emotions.

For context, my best friend and I have known each other almost 4 years. She’s been engaged almost 3, we started to get closer a couple months before the engagement but really became best friends right after. We had a conversation then about how she wanted me as a bridesmaid, but wasnt going to ask because she’d already had her wedding party established in her head and she’d known those people longer than me. i would’ve made things uneven. We hadn’t been close long, so I understood. but it was something that started to bother me the closer we got because I realized I wasn’t going to be around for the big memories even though we were inseparable. She regularly called me the best friend she’s ever had, she went through a lot that I was the one to show up for, including some relationship issues with her fiance.

We had an argument about two years ago that caused us to stop talking for a month. When we started talking again, she swore I hadn’t done anything wrong she had just become overwhelmed and needed to step back. But our friendship resumed mostly as normal, just with some new boundaries due to her schedule.

Fast forward to two months ago, she cut out a bridesmaid. Told me she wasn’t going to replace her. A month later told me at dinner that she did actually replace her with the best man’s SO, who she’s expressed she dislikes often, because this girl was going to be at everything anyways as his plus one. Like I have texts of her saying she’d never make this girl a bridesmaid because she can’t stand her. It was her fiancé’s idea to ask her. Told me if she cared to pick someone else, it would’ve been me. I told her it hurt to hear how I almost got picked but why not for a second time now. She was a little mad I brought it up, said it felt entitled of me to be hurt, said because of the falling out of course it would never have been me, but has since cooled down. We’ve spent a lot of time together since. Just last week she told me I’m the friend she sees and talks to the most. But it’s like it doesn’t bother her that I’m not going to be at the rehearsal dinner or there the morning of or most likely get much time with her at all. I am incredibly hurt. it’s not even the title, it’s just missing out on those moments with my best friend and knowing someone she doesnt even like gets those instead. I don’t know how to navigate my emotions this week and at the wedding, as she’s started complaining about some logistic things to me and I want to be supportive but also it hurts to not be more involved. I appreciate any advice.

UPDATE:

I had a really hard time not being upset the morning of the wedding knowing I wasn’t spending time with her as she got ready, not even going to lie about it. But I pulled it together because she’s important to me. The ceremony was beautiful. We spent a majority of the reception together. I’d back off to give her some space to go be with other people, and she’d come find me or call me right back over. We made some awesome memories. I truly am happy for her and hope the day was everything she dreamed of and more.

How many details are "typically" managed by brides?

Hey friends. This is my third wedding I've stood up in, and this is the first time I've encountered this. Bride is absolutely lovely and I'm so excited to be supporting her on her special day! MOH is doing a lot of hard work communicating all the details. Yet, it seems very unlike the bride, who I've known for years, to want this level of detail and a big consideration of hers (as she's shared) is reusability for each of us. She's really the best.

That said, MOH has asked that we wear silver shoes (no rhinestones, not more than 3", but can't be flats or kitten heels, can't be strappy, must be closed toe or peep toe, almond shape/and not pointy), must wear a simple necklace, small silver hoops, no bracelets allowed. Everything (obviously the bridesmaid dress, hair, earrings, necklace, and shoes, makeup), must be individually approved by the bride, who has always responded positively.

We also had specific outfits we put together for the bachelorette party and had a very specific aesthetic for that as well that had to be approved in advance. Guests are not allowed to wear black (or white, of course). Am I just grumpy that I'm basically buying the bach outfit and shoes to donate them to the thrift? Of course, I love my friend and want to make her special day as amazing as possible. I'm just feeling a little frustrated by the amount of back and forth so many of the things have been so far - even when the parameters are followed, MOH sometimes pushes back before it can get sent to the bride.

I'm tired, y'all. I just want to support my friend without the bureaucracy and not break the bank in the process.

Thank you!

Bridesmaid entrance ideas

I'm the MOH in a wedding that's 6 days away. I'm an introvert and hate this kind of thing.

Please give me ideas for something low-key I can do with the best man. Apparently everyone is doing something a little silly. I don't want to be lame. Please don't tell me to say no. I'm in the home stretch and want to participate.

I'm leaning toward a secret service thing with sunglasses and ear pieces from my son's costume collection.

Any other ideas?!

Dress help?!

Heya! Advice needed please 🙏

So basically, wedding is in a week. I originally got my dress altered about a month ago, but then it caused ripples on the hips, so I got it altered again. They shortened the side zip which fixed it - but now I can only get it on over my shoulders. It’s not impossible but it’s also a bit of a tight squeeze as the dress has no give.

I’m debating whether to take it back to the seamstress or try to figure it out. Leaning more towards figuring out as I got made redundant and don’t have a lot of spare change right now, and getting it sorted within a week is a high risk.

So, my options as I see it are:
1) Dress on before hair and makeup - I’m not huge on this as the ceremony starts at 1pm and my hair gets done at 7am, so that’s 6 hours of sitting around it my dress (creasing, risk of something being spilt, etc)

2) Dress on after hair and before makeup - I haven’t decided on my hairstyle yet but it’ll likely be a messy bun. I saw some people say I could wrap it in a silk scarf to stop friction? Makeup gets done at 10am.

3) Dress on at the end like the other bridesmaids will - obvious risk of messing up hair and makeup though, and potentially getting makeup on the dress

Getting help from one of the other bridesmaids could be an option too - but I don’t know them well and I feel a bit embarrassed about it.

What would you do? Anyone been in a similar situation? Thank you in advance 🫶🫶
