Discussion Brantford rant

So I respectfully asked where the unhoused stayed trying to find where letters from dead loved ones may have been abandoned, as well as my baby's diaper bag, mementos, etc that were stolen from my property and some mod says it violates policy because for the reason I've pasted below.

I'd like to call out the utter bullshit because had I said I was looking to give out free clothes and gift cards, the post would still be up.

And this is the problem with this community enabling all this nonsense and making safe spaces for crime. News flash, moderator, if you're staying and hanging out in public you don't have an expectation of privacy. A fucking intersection is not a private residence. Not once did I say or infer I was going out to fuck somebody up, so what's your concern?

You want to talk about the community being harmed? Let's talk about the pipes and needles and trespassing and fires and property crime. I'm disappointed.

I'd say this directly to the moderator but I don't know who. So I hope you read this, and if you ban me for it I'm not missing much. That's about all I have to say, and thanks to anyone who tried to help.

2 Respecting Privacy and Preventing Harm

This community values the privacy and safety of all individuals.

Posts that risk revealing personal information, identifying private residences, or compromising anyone's well-being may be removed at the moderators' sole and absolute discretion.

Content based on unverifiable claims, rumours, or potential misinformation that could cause harm to an individual or the community may also be removed.

Discussion I'm Proud Of You Brantford

Just a random Redditor but like many people on here, I am deeply invested in the future of our city. I participate in city council meetings. I saw how our city was being taken in the wrong direction for years.

I am proud of our city for not voting in the Conservative candidates for mayor - Rose Sicoli or Dan McCreary. While I personally hoped Mandy Samwell would have been the most competent in the role, I'm glad we voted in Carpenter who has a track record of standing with the vulnerable, oppressed and grassroots.

He's no Mamdani, but I think our city is out of the grips of developers for a bit and we may see some serious improvements in terms of livability, making everyday peoples' lives better.

We also elected in a mostly new council, two of the three councilors who have stayed on - Linda Hunt, and Brian Van Tilborg have a good track record in how they consider the people of this city in their votes.

With Trump ruling in the US, Ford sitting at the head of the province - our recent election gives me hope in our city. Shout out to you all!

Discussion Local holiday food/ toy drives?

Hey everyone! Just wondering if anyone knows of any local food or toy drives happening around the area as we head into the Christmas season.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a traditional food drive either. For example, I’ve bought meals through Lonnie’s before and would love to find more ways to help out locally, whether that’s donating toys, buying meals for people in need, or supporting other good causes in the community.

If anyone knows of anything like this, I’d really appreciate the suggestions!

Thanks! 😊

Discussion Brantwood Farms Haunted Hayride?

Without spoiling the whole experience, can you briefly share with me what it was like to go to this attraction? I know that they've had it previously at the old Brantwood Farms location but now that they've moved, what's it like? Is it still running? Is it family-friendly scary? Or can adults be spooked by it as well? Thanks!

My great-grandfather Murray Collier and Steve Cara operated a a car station in the 1940s called Cities Service Station. It was located between Colborne Street and Park Avenue. Below is an advertisement in the February 28th 1942 issue of The Expositor.

Event 1 Mayor, 2 Councillors, 6 total School Board Members. Please get out and vote today, 10am - 8pm.

As I wrapped up canvassing yesterday, I kept running into residents that are shocked to learn they have 2 votes for councillor, despite having spoken to other candidates. Please remember, you are voting for 1 Mayor, 2 Councillors, 4 GEDSB members, and 2 BHNCD members.

Voters stations will be open from 10am to 8 pm today. Please see the list of locations below.

https://www.brantford.ca/your-government/municipal-election/voters/polling-stations/

I'd like to thank everyone that has shown me support over the last few months. Whether you liked a post, shared some content, reached out for a chat, offered me a coffee or beer, or even just spent time getting ish off your chest, Thank You.

As someone who has never ran for a political position, this has been an experience I look forward to repeating it in 4 years. We have a lot of challenges throughout Ward 5, I will be continuing to advocating for positive changes throughout our neighbourhoods, regardless of the outcome, either through the Ward 5 Community Watch Group, or on a committee.

Thank you to the other candidates who have taken the time to share knowledge, debate topics and exchange ideas for the sake of improving our city. We have a great batch of candidates in the race, I look forward to seeing who gets selected today.

And finally, thank you to my loved ones, this adventure wouldn't have happened without you, nor would I have been able to complete it, I appreciate you all.

For anyone thinking about running in 4 years, do it! I'll do a separate post later this week outlining the adventure that is campaigning from a newbies perspective.

Cheers 🍻

Discussion Stabbing by Brandos Bar

Someone was stabbed across the street from Brandos Bar after it closed and Market St from Chatham to Nelson is marked off with police tape as a crime scene.

Told me that if I leave my house to go anywhere I'm not allowed back in and didn't give me a time frame when I would be.

Whatever happened to people just fighting with their fists then it was done when it was over with. You know the guy who got stabbed his friends are going to want retribution. I hope the guy who got stabbed is alright and makes it through.

It took forever for the cops and ambulance to show up. They came quicker the night before when there was a couple people fighting and a bunch of noise after the bar closed the night before.

Discussion Innovation Lunch/Dinner

Hey everyone,

I'm 26, based in Brantford, and I work in finance and I'm a user of AI. Lately I've been thinking a lot about how fast AI is changing every industry.

I'm looking to hang out with people who are: builders, founders, tech people, creatives, anyone who's forward-thinking and actually excited about where things are going instead of scared of it. People who want to build something, start something, or just have real conversations about what's coming.

Not looking for anything formal or salesy. Just coffee, a beer, maybe a regular meetup if a few of us click. If you're working on something interesting or want to be, even better — I'd love to hear about it.

If that sounds like you, comment or DM me. If there's enough of us, we could even start a small monthly group here in Brantford.

Discussion Does anyone know where Pierre Pollievre visited today?

I am trying to figure it out, I saw a post of him at Chucks Roadhouse. His story shows Piper Arms, Shoeless Joe's, and a few others, and I know he went to Zanders before. And of course he went to the Bulldogs game with Wall and Davis.

I'm curious if these establishments welcomed him in or if he just showed up. I'm not sure how that works.

I don't get why he has to hang out in Brantford so much. 😒

Hi all. My boy Yoshi has been missing since Tuesday night. The kids accidentally left the door open and he got out.

We live in greenbrier neighbourhood. He’s friendly but might not be since he’s probably scared. We miss him so so so much. It’s killing me.

Please help me find my buddy

Discussion 27F looking for my romantasy girlies in Brantford 📚🥂

Hi! I’m 27F, Ukrainian, and moved to Brantford with my husband a few months ago.
I’m looking to meet girls with similar interests, especially fellow romantasy and fantasy readers! I love books with romance, spice, and morally grey men 🤭I also enjoy anime, manhwa, and drawing from time to time.
Would love to find someone to chat about books with, maybe grab a drink and hang out occasionally.
