Reminder: Buying and selling bags is against the rules of this sub

Seen this pop up a fair bit lately. Because people aren't reading the rules I've started banning people temporarily for this.

Please read the rules people. It's really not that hard and don't get upset if you break the rules and get punished. It's on you to read those.

The reason it's not allowed is I don't want this sub (and me) to be responsible for having to moderate that crap. Go look at r/EDCExchange or other subs that allow it. They have systems in place to hold people accountable.

Battery anxiety on campus is real. I'm done fighting for wall outlets

Does anyone else’s campus have like three working outlets in the entire building?
I'm stuck on campus from early morning until late evening this semester and my phone, AirPods and laptop never seem to last the whole day. I used to awkwardly wait in the library just hoping someone would leave a wall seat but I finally picked up a massive iniu 25k brick with 100w output. Here is the crazy part that I somehow completely missed: it literally charges my Mac as fast as the wall plug does. I always assumed portable chargers were strictly for giving your phone an extra 20% in an emergency. Honestly, it has completely changed how I go about my day. Yesterday I topped off my phone over coffee, powered my laptop during a 2 hour seminar and even rescued a classmates dying tablet. Still had a third of the battery left when I went home at 7pm. Yeah, its definitely a lil bulky and you can feel the weight in your backpack but its surprisingly sleek for how much power it holds. That 100w laptop charging is the real MVP though. Just plugging it in for 30 minutes between classes gives me enough power that I don't even look at the wall plugs anymore.

How do you guys manage long days on campus? Do you carry a power bank or just hope you find an empty outlet?

Beautifully crafted bags I really love but a bit disappointed with the material durability on the front. Happened on a trip packed with other backpacks in a closed vehicle.

Any solutions? Repair ideas?

How do you keep your one-bag setup from getting too bulky?

I'm trying to get better at one bag travel, mostly for trips that last around 3-5 days. My problem is that I always underestimate how much space my stuff takes up. A few outfits, toiletries, my laptop, chargers, and suddenly my backpack is packed to the point where I can barely fit anything else.

I also don't love carrying a fully loaded backpack around all day. It's fine when I'm heading from the airport to my accommodation, but not so great when I'm switching trains, walking between places, or spending hours getting around. At the same time, I don't want to bring a bigger bag just to have extra room for things I probably don't need. I'm trying to figure out whether I should focus more on packing lighter or get a backpack with a better layout. Do extra compartments actually help you stay organized, or do they just take up space? And how do you decide when your bag is too big for a one bag trip?

Would love to hear how other people approach this, especially for trips where you're moving between accommodations rather than staying in one place.

OneBag Looking for Backpack similar to Haize Project Rolltop

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’m looking for a new backpack and hope someone here can point me in the right direction.

My current bag is the Aevor Trip Pack, and I’m very happy with it. I want to stick with the same concept: a rolltop backpack that also has a zipper so I can open it completely, like a suitcase with around 25L.

I use the bag almost every day. It’s my onebag for travel, but I also take it grocery shopping and to the gym. Because it gets so much use, quality is my top priority. I’m looking for premium materials, high-end zippers and hardware, and a build that will hold up to daily use for many years.

Recently I tried on the Haize Project Rolltop 25L, and it was almost perfect. I love the look, which reminds me of a technical touring or alpine pack, and the form factor feels compact and clean. The only thing missing is a clamshell opening. If it had that, it would basically be my perfect bag.

Most classic onebag backpacks feel too bulky and boxy to me. I’d much prefer something slimmer with a more technical, outdoor-inspired design.

So my question is: Do you know a backpack that is similar to the Haize Rolltop in look and size, is extremely well made, has a rolltop and opens fully via a zipper?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

CCW backpack for EDC

I recently bought the 20L urban ghost from vertex. Nice backpack but I need more space. It is smaller than I thought it was. Also, I don't like that it only has two compartments outside of the CCW compartment. I'm looking for something with a dedicated CCW compartment, and several other compartments, with admin organization also. I plan to use it as my primary work bag, it's primary location will be in the seat next to me while driving. Or next to my desk at my office. Ideally, inconspicuous. No tactical or molle look.

Osprey Transporter Zinch (22 L) – 6-month review: my EDC after ~15 backpacks

I just have to get this off my chest, because there are hardly any reviews of the Transporter Zinch online.

I honestly don't know why I bought this bag. It was probably an impulse buy. I didn't really like it in the product photos, but I found it for €75. And I have to say, it instantly became my EDC.

Organization

  • I carry my water bottle in the main compartment, and with that approach the built-in organization is plenty for me.
  • One of the side pockets has a small zippered mesh pocket next to the bottle sleeve. Two small Alpaka Zip Pouch Pro fit in there.
  • The stretch holder on the other side holds my flashlight, pocket knife, etc.
  • The main compartment has a laptop sleeve and a tablet sleeve. Neither can be accessed from the outside. My 16" laptop fits without any problem. There are also two small slip pockets for a USB stick, charging cable, etc.
  • There's still enough room in the main compartment for everything I need for my public-transit commute and the office.

Zip-and-cinch closure
The cinch lets you expand the pack a bit. That's enough for the few fresh groceries I pick up for cooking after work.

Comfort
The fit works well for my build.

Build quality
After about 6 months, the fabric shows no signs of abrasion at all. The zippers feel high-quality.

Verdict
If the looks don't put you off, this is a really great pack with excellent value for money. I now use it as a daypack when traveling too. I think I've finally found my ideal backpack.

Question Arcteryx Mantis 16 vs Fjallraven Abisko 16?

Looking for a smaller day bag mainly for everyday use (commuting to work with a 14 inch laptop), but will also use it on day hikes and for travel. Both the Mantis and Abisko come in 16L sizes, which I think is the size I want, but not sure if one is better than the other.

I'd be grateful to hear your experiences with either of these bags, any pros and cons, or opinions on which might be better before I make a purchase. Thanks!

Travel Eastpak Tecum Cabin 22 vs Osprey Daylite 26+6 - which would you choose for budget airline travel + business travel (mostly Europe)?

I'm trying to decide between the Eastpak Tecum Cabin 22 and the Osprey Daylite Expandable Travel Pack 26+6, and I'd love to hear from people who own either bag or have used both.

I'll mainly be using it for travel with Ryanair and easyJet, ideally as my free under seat personal item, without having to pay extra for cabin baggage.

A few things about my situation:

  • I need to carry a Lenovo V15 G4 IRU (15.6-inch laptop) safely.
  • Comfort, organisation and durability matter to me.
  • It will be used both for Business Travel and Leisure Travel

The Eastpak Tecum Cabin 22 appeals to me because its dimensions (40 × 25 × 20 cm) fit within Ryanair's free personal-item allowance.

The Osprey Daylite 26+6 seems more versatile, with its expandable capacity and suitcase-style opening, but its dimensions (43 × 33 × 16 cm) exceed Ryanair's free under seat allowance on paper (even though people usually manage anyway to travel with it.)

If you've owned either bag, would you buy it again? And if there's another backpack you'd recommend for my needs, I'm open to suggestions!

what keeps a packable bag from sagging when it's loaded?

Mine carries a water bottle, light jacket, snacks, maybe a camera, nothing heavy, and it still turns into a floppy mess by the end of the day. Does a frame or stiffer panel actually fix this, or is it more about the straps?

Travel Oakley Kitchen Sink vs Arcteryx Mantis 26L for Travel

Thinking of dropping the rimowa check in that I borrow from my sister as it weighs too much (4KG!?!) and looking to swap to one of these two bags. I’m looking for something rugged as I’m a bit clumsy. Any thoughts? I’ve looked into the Osprey but they all seem to be similar prices (Oakley is on sale for $70 cheaper than the Arcteryx atm).
