MOD Announcement Scam Alert
Scammers are a constant presence here and we want to remind you to protect yourself against them. For additional details and more information, please see this previous post:
Unsolicited PMs
If you receive an unsolicited private message or chat, this includes givers posting offers and requestors, there are a couple steps we ask of you but they are vital in helping keep the community safe.
This subreddit is apart of the Universal Scammer List which is a joint effort with giving subs. You can search the USL here.
If the user in question is on the list, please report them to reddit admin and you can block them.
If the user in question is not on the USL, before reporting to the admin, please take screenshots (instructions below) and message modmail to alert us to the situation.
Personal Information
If anyone is asking for your personal information such as account numbers, credit card information, social security numbers, passwords, or anything that makes you uncomfortable (including NSFW solicitations or favors), DO NOT SEND THEM THIS INFORMATION. Report this information with screenshots to modmail immediately.
If you have sent personal information to someone, particularly your SSN, and have concerns, please take appropriate action. Here are some steps to get you started on protecting your identity.
At this time, it is not possible to send images directly in a reddit message to modmail. The best way to do so is to upload your screenshots to an image hosting site, like imgur in a hidden album and share the link to the album with us in modmail. Providing screenshots is very important so while we do suggest you ignore or block the questionable user, please be sure to take screenshots first as ignored chats cannot be recovered later if you forget.

They must do it all day for these amounts to add up to anything. I need help myself but I posted to someone for whom only 3 dollars world at least get them on the bus to work the next morning. I got pm requests for money, I was like I could only offer that 3 dollars. They were like I could use 3 dollars!

u/proof-stretch-1574, u/normalboard, and u/inb4idie all tried to scam me last night. All were on the list so I called them out and didn't give any info. Inb4idie asked for a phone number, and had a weird excuse when I said hes on the usl: that he hasnt paid for some kind of verification? Sounds like bullshit to me

Inb4idie appeared to want CashApp, via chat
"I was going to say I could refer you to Cashapp. I still could but you’d need a debit card thats never been used on Cashapp before. My referral bonus is $30 rn and I wanted to send you that if we could trigger the bonus...."

You can report them to reddit admin and block them. I wouldn't even bother engaging them at all.

u/Ready-Holiday2726 private messaged me and was asking for my bank account details to help him in return. Sounded fishy so I looked him up on the USL and mf is banned. To think that I even got a ray of hope that my situation will somehow get better. Shame on y'all scammers. So sick of this world, man.

Pretty sure I got scammed by u/NormalBoard. I am potentially out 184.00 that I absolutely don't have. I feel like such an asshole and am physically ill.

Just a quick question before I consider posting. How does the whole situation work with r/assistance as I'm based in the UK and was potentially going to ask for £10-15 to get me some food shopping until the end of the month but I'd be highly skeptical of giving anyone my bank details etc so would rather not post and do without the assistance than share my bank details online?

I've sent people funds via 3rd party apps such as PayPal and Venmo. My thought is that the most annoying thing that could happen would be unsolicited future requests. Maybe I'm missing something?

Yeah to be honest a guy at work realised I was struggling the other day and gave me a cheeky lender so I'm not considering posting now but you've got a point regarding unsolicited requests, I guess it's the risk you take doing this kind of thing, hoping the person requesting assistance is not gonna harass or scam you. Thanks for the answer given my situation when I posted your answer was helpful

Also, if you have a bad feeling about an interaction with someone who contacted you regarding a post on r/Assistance, and you're not sure how to move forward, you can always send a moderator message to ask us. Unfortunately, we can't monitor everything that's going on, especially not interactions that happen in private message. So if you have any doubts and need some advice, we're here to help.
