As with the prior post, thanks to numerous subs for furthering this conversation and creating the tools to effectively discuss and approach next steps. This post pulls some verbiage from the ones in r/chicago and r/ohio.
After careful consideration and community feedback, the mod team has decided to prohibit linking to X (formerly Twitter) on this subreddit. This decision reflects the consensus view of the community members.
As of today, r/acappella is implementing a strict content curation policy to ban X domain.
We will only allow X content in the form of posts that are EXCLUSIVELY available on X and cannot be sourced from alternative platforms
For breaking news, users MUST:
This new ruling aims to elevate discourse, reduce noise, and ensure the community receives accurate, substantive local information.
We urge all creators, groups, and personalities to also make their content available on alternative platforms (e.g Bluesky).
Last thing. It is very likely that we're seeing increased activity in bots, trolls, and coordinated efforts to disrupt. It's even possible that some are siding with this ban of the domains just to stir the pot and create noise. Don't feed the trolls. Keep that in mind.
Edit: Hyperlinked prior post

My a cappella group is trying to buy our own set of mics this year so that we don’t have to keep spending money every semester to rent out mics every semester for our showcases. Is it worth it to try to invest in a mixer & speaker for our gigs as well or should we just focus on buying mics since our showcase venue already has a sound system we’d just have to connect to? Does anyone also have any good recommendations? This is the set we’re looking into: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1268926-REG/vocopro_hybrid_acapella_16_sixteen_channel_digital_hybrid_wireless.html?ap=y&smp=Y

HI! I'm a college freshman who loves to sing and is super into acappella but I had zero musical experience and acapella is a little competitive at my college.
What skills can I work on to pass auditions in the spring/ are important in acappella?
I have already started to practice picking out notes in chords when played together, and I can imitate 7-8 note melodies pretty well after hearing them twice. I am also part of a choir this semester.
Would appreciate any advice or tips!

for some context, we’re a brand new collegiate a cappella group that formed this fall, and our college has never had a group like ours before (SSAA). our campus scene has been dominated by one main group for a while, so we wanted to create a space for soprano and alto singers who didn't have an outlet. unfortuately we got waitlisted as a rookie group, and a couple of people already left because of it, which makes the situation super discouraging.
varsity vocals mentioned that groups drop out every year, so has anyone actually gotten in through the waitlist and what was that experience like?
anyway, my main question is: what other competitions or opportunities are there for collegiate a cappella groups besides the ICCAs? i want to give my group something to work toward and keep everyone motivated, especially since we’re so new and trying to establish ourselves.
i’d really appreciate hearing about anyone’s experiences with the waitlist or recommendations for other collegiate a cappella competitions!

Just sharing my singing/voice and a cappella snippet of sum’ lyrics of an original song I wrote and eventually will fully release soon.
Let me know what yall think, I know it’s a short clip/snippet.
Also any tips or advice on my singing are most definitely welcomed and appreciated. This is an old recording so I’ve improved since but I still got a lot more to improve.
Also any insights of what kind of voice I possess is also welcomed and appreciated but it’s not necessary or primary to this post/discussion.
Mainly just sharing my voice and snippet of one of my songs.
Let me know what yall think. Thank you for listening.
‘Preciate y’all. 🙏🏻

I have been unable to find who recorded this cover of "Lean on Me" which I downloaded several years ago. MusicBrainz Picard tells me it is Al Jarreau, but it is not. Can anyone help me?

I come here as a guitar player trying to improve my ear and my singing. The common thing I her is that learning intervals is the best way to do this, especially later in a musical life (24 years old). I went to acappella shows in college to see my roommate sing, and I remember someone would always play a note to essentially establish the key of a song before they started. I'm wondering how you actively use that as a guide while singing. Anything helps

I’m entering my 3rd year in an a cappella group & the past 2 years have not been great. There’s been issues with people just not practicing (which led us to give up our soot in ICCA my freshman year), and issues with our group not being super bonded. The other groups at my college don’t seem to have the same bonding issues. Unfortunately, last year we had some members who did a lot of gossiping and caused drama in the group & they ended up leaving to start a new group. Now during auditions this year we’ve been affected by this drama & have had many people audition for us but choose another group over us due to this drama.
How can we make sure people actually put in the work to make us sound good & how can we put in more work to bond and create real friendships in this group? In a more broad term, how can we do well as a group with fewer members?

What's a beautiful touching Christmas song thst can be sung solo, a capella? Last year I sang "I Wonder As I Wander." It was lovely, I felt good about it and ppl enjoyed it. I'm not a great singer, just in the church choir and solos occasionally. My comfy range is alto>low alt.
