Sub Rules AKA I can't see the sidebar

[TAG] questions with your state
When asking a question, add a state tag to the title, as the answers can vary a lot. ie:

[VIC] How do I get a licence?

or

[NSW] What does military appearance mean?

If you "don't like reading"
You should try YouTube, or something else not inherently involving reading.

Try to not be a dick
Other that site wide rules, there's a lot of leeway given here.

Selling anything firearm related
Relevant site wide rules include the prohibition against selling/advertising/trading/whatever anything firearm related.
Don't make me delete your post to protect this sub.

As /u/ramathaham said:

Any post selling firearms or ammunition will be removed, people who post multiple times may be temp banned or more if they are flogs about it.

Note this also applies to things like scopes because I am too lazy to look up the rules on what we can do so it is easier to make it a blanket rule.

Whilst not a rule per se, if you are here only to promote your business you will have a bad time.

Community Update: Refer to sub rules before posting.

Hi cobbers,

We've got a lot of new members and it's great to see, however there's been a spate posts and comments that are either in breach of Reddit's Terms of Service, or the very few guidelines we have here.

Please refer to the community info before posting.

NO SALES POSTS

Reddit's content policy on transactions involving firearms, ammunition and weapons means this is strictly verboten. Posts like "how much do you think a Howa 1500 in .308, safe queen, handling marks only, is worth" will be removed the same as it's a grey area we don't want to play with.

ILLEGAL ACTIVITY

Whether you're a certified badass, a confused teenager, or a keyboard warrior extraordinaire, posts and comments promoting illegal activity is not what we want this sub associated with.

THE RULE

Try not to be a dick.

Advice regarding gun range

Hey everyone!
I’m after a bit of advice from those of you who have experience shooting at the range.
I’ve used a .22 and a .308 before, and I really enjoyed shooting the .308! But I’m wondering whether that’s actually the best fit for me or whether there might be something else I’d enjoy even more.
I’m mainly interested in target shooting for fun and improving my accuracy, but I’m also interested in learning about longer-distance target shooting.
I’d love to hear your recommendations and experiences. What do you enjoy shooting at the range, and what would you recommend looking into?
I’m also interested in how different rifles compare when it comes to recoil, comfort during longer shooting sessions, accuracy and overall enjoyment. I loved the feel of the .308, but I want to make sure I consider all the options before deciding whether it’s the right fit for me.
I’m keen to learn, take advice on board and make an informed decision, so any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance, everyone! 🙏😊

That's not a knife; this is a knife! WTF?

Been trying to find out if this Beretta Olimpia I saw on ozgunsales was still available.

200 bucks for a little PoS that can apparently switch from semi to bolt (or well, I guess lever release in today's terminology). So I thought, why not for a gimmick.

Ring the dealer, cunt has absolutely no idea. What gun? Is someone selling it and just putting it as the dealer? It's a shotgun, right? Bruh. I literally said Semi .22 🤦‍♂️

It says here to speak to X,

"Well, I'm X. I have no idea what you're on about."

I continue to read the ad out, and he recognises the dual action and goes yeah. I don't know. I'll have to look for it and speak with Y, see if he sold it already. Hear nothing all week. Give him a bell, no answer, so I leave a message.

Try again a few days later. He answers. Hey, it's OP. Do you still have the Olimpia? "The what?" Literally have to through the gun again till he remembers. "Oh yeah, someone else was asking about that."

YES! ME! I WAS! "Oh yeah I don't know if we have it or not. I'll go look now. " Do you still have my number? "No." Okay it's this 123456789

*Actually get a call back*

He starts talking about other irrelevant stuff. Do you have it or not, man? "Yes." Sick, I'll buy it.

"$300", the ad says $200, "Oh, I guess Y reduced it in price already. That's okay. We were going to soon anyway. " -_- I've been trying to buy this gun for over a week, man, and you're over there thinking it's not selling we'll reduce the price.

I pay, and just before he hangs up, he goes "Oh there's a small transfer fee."

A what? "Yeah, a transfer fee, just to pay to get it through our books." Bro, you already have the gun. It's in your books.

How much? "Oh, nothing too big, just like $30, just to cover the costs of things you know what LRD like."

😐 😑 😐

Flair because why not?

Edit: He also talked me out of posting it to my dealer 🤣 he's only a little over an hour away, but the wrong direction to anything. So yeah, I save some money, but I have to drive into Rural Vic now and waste a few hours. When I told him where I lived, he shut the whole post-it conversation down and just said, "Come in and pick it up."

And yes, he is making me pay a transfer fee to transfer his own stock into my name.

This time it’s a pair of Arisakas- a Type 38 Short Rifle with a touch of battle damage and an intact Chrysanthemum marking, and an early Type 99 rifle which still has all the extras like the built in monopod and anti aircraft sights but the mum has been removed

Has any non-citizen recently obtained a firearms licence in NSW? For existing non-citizen firearms licence holders, have you experienced any issues renewing your licence?

Legislation- Victoria Exporting choke tubes from Aus

Hi all,

I will be travelling to Melbourne soon and wanted to buy some shotgun choke tubes and take it home when I leave Aus.

My country doesn't have the brand/type that I want.

My question is whether this is possible from the Australian side? Are choke tubes restricted goods and whether they can be exported?

My plan is to just put in my checked in luggage, I will handle the import paperwork on the arrival country so there is no issue there. I'm more concerned about the exporting of Australian side. I don't want to get in trouble and just want to do the right thing.

Thank you all!

Ammo in Carry on

I made a boo boo at the airport today..... I was hunting outside of the ACT, flew my rifles and ammo down from Brisbane no issues. On the way home I did the same thing in reverse however when going through the security bag screen I had accidentally left 3 rounds in my hunting bag (carry on). AFP were called and took down my details, asked me what the go is and what happened, the copper was really good, he accepted it was a mistake and said there would be no pressing of charges or criminal record, just his police report documenting the ammo was seized.

Anyone had a similar experience ? And how cooked am I...

will QLD weapons licensing come for me....

General Discussion .223 recommendations for roo shooting/ small vermin

Hi all.

Just after everyone’s opinions on what .223 to go for, main purpose being roo culling/ vermin control on a NSW property.

Drawn to the Taipan Evo after a few modifications but concerned with state of NSW law changes.

Will be a mix of on foot shooting and out of a vehicle.
Quick target changes for follow up shots is a bonus.

Within 250 meter range, can be paired with a thermal or spotlight.

Is it worth the risk to get the Taipan or just go with a sensible option of something like a Tikka.

Newbie question Left hander question

Hey guys. An ex army guy looking to get into this hobby. I’m right handed but left eye dominant which has not been a problem at work with the styer and m4 however bolt actions are another beast… as I’d like to get into chassis as well because I more comfortable with those shapes (pistol grips etc).
Looks like the chassis game is a little light on with left handed models. So:

  1. How are left handers experience with getting chassis and availability of kit?
  2. What’s the view on shooting a right handed rifle for left eye dominant? (My first thought is it won’t be as smooth as you’d be cycling the bolt with your trigger hand).
Bonus question: any ranges around Canberra that let you rock up and shoot from prone and do your own thing? I don’t want to shoot off a bench. Just want to show up practice at longer ranges for an hour and head off. Would also eventually go to PRS meets at majura park though.

Cheers guys

Marlin cheek riser options

Hi everyone. My bacon-buster comb height is very low for my particular face, but I like the existing furniture and would like to keep it. I taped some D30 on just to check the difference, and I'd like to add maybe 25mm minimum so that I get a good cheek weld.

What aftermarket options have worked for you (the main one I've seen is Taree Precision, that doesn't look horrible) that yours recommend?

Or what's worked for you as a DIY fix and didn't look like ass to raise the height of your comb?
