Career Advice Maybe I’m a failure right now, but I don’t think this is where my ACCA story ends

Post image
92 Upvotes

I’m doing ACCA alongside my B.Com, and honestly, my journey has been a mess.

I’ve failed papers, walked into exams knowing I was underprepared, wasted weeks procrastinating, and then hated myself for it when the exam got close.

The worst part is I can’t even say I always gave everything and still failed.

A lot of the time, I know I could’ve done more.

I missed FR by 3 marks, and that one hurt badly because your brain immediately starts thinking about every day you wasted.

What if I had practised one more question?

What if I started earlier?

What if I didn’t waste that week?

And watching other people clear papers while I’m still struggling sometimes makes me question whether I’m actually capable of finishing ACCA.

I’ve blamed circumstances before, and some of them were real, but I’m also starting to accept that a lot of this comes down to me.

My decisions.

My discipline.

My consistency.

Nobody forced me to procrastinate. Nobody forced me to go into exams underprepared.

That part is mine.

I’m not posting this because I’ve suddenly changed my life or because this is some comeback story.

It isn’t.

I could fail again.

I could mess up another study plan.

I genuinely don’t know how long ACCA will take me.

But I know I’m not quitting.

Most people tell their story after they succeed.

I wanted to post mine while I’m still in the ugly middle, when I genuinely don’t know how it ends.

Right now, maybe I am a failure.

At least on paper, my results don’t exactly tell a success story. But failing and being finished aren’t the same thing.

Maybe a few years from now I’ll come back to this post with “ACCA” after my name and laugh at how convinced I was that I wasn’t good enough.

Or maybe it’ll take much longer than I expect.

I don’t know.

I just know I don’t want this version of me to be the final version.

And if you’re also failing papers, behind schedule, ashamed of your attempts, or feeling like everyone is moving ahead except you—

you’re not the only one.

I’m literally in it right now.

Maybe I’m a failure right now, but I’m not ready to call this the ending

Career Advice Do not do ACCA - stay away from this course

I see people on this sub asking about starting ACCA almost daily but as an affiliate I want to share my reality of completing acca as an Indian student.

I'm an ACCA affiliate and a bcom graduate. I have 6 months prior experience and 6 months of experience in my current role.

As someone who is actively working in India the truth is this course is simply looked down upon by recruiters and seniors. I've been told so many times "we don't hire acca's" or even if someone is willing to they expect you to take a pay cut. My current pay is absolutely pathetic for my current role and I've been offered much much less in other roles. The course is not worth the investment and time you spend because you're gonna be stuck in shit roles because your qualification nerfs you. For people who say we'll go out, it's not that easy. Jobs outside India are extremely hard to come by especially since there is so much oversaturation of acca's in India, pakistan, bangladesh etc.... how many do you think foreign workforces will hire. There's just toooo many of us.

The simple truth is that this is a course hyped up by coaching classes for insane profits because education is one of the largest and most profitable ventures in india. Selling the dream of going abroad with lesser effort than CA was a super duper hit. Landing concrete roles is very very hard and the exorbitant exemptions people receive (and will definitely continue to receive since the body doesn't seem to care much about our feedback) doesn't make it any better.

If you are already doing this course then think of a back-up plan and start internships/jobs immediately and do not delay, look for roles in mid and small size firms and then try to move up. If you haven't started then tbh look into something else.

TLDR; Avoid this oversaturated course because getting a job let alone a well paying one is extremely hard.

Career Advice Is acca really worth doing in india

Hello everyone

I am in 12th grade and started preparing for acca right after 10th at that time I blindly chose acca and did not think about the cost and how expensive it will be and nowadays I am reading and hearing so many bad things about it and it really demotivates me

I never wanted to burden my parents for money even though they are capable of paying I wanted to complete at least 6 papers till my 1st year but now everyone is saying that this is just a fancy bcom and there are no jobs in India for it

Also the fact that the membership fee is so much I feel so bad to the point I don't have the willpower to study

Not only that but I also wasted my money in coaching about 2 lakhs and there service is shit I wanted to go to a nice college for my graduation but I just can't go anymore because the acca itself is costing me 3 4 lakhs and on top of that people are saying it's not worth it

I live in a small town if I don't go out how will I even find jobs and internships

So can somebody with experience and enough knowledge in this field advice me on what to do and is acca really worth it

I am really disheartened I hope somebody can guide me

Thank you!

Career Advice Is ACCA worth doing after BCom in India in 2026? Need honest opinions

I’m confused about whether ACCA is actually worth the time and money, especially for someone starting from a BCom background.

I’d like to hear from people who are currently pursuing ACCA or have completed it, particularly in India.

A few things I want to know:

Is ACCA worth it for getting a good finance/accounting job in India?

How difficult is it while working full-time?

What kind of salary can I realistically expect after completing it?

Does ACCA help in getting into Big 4 / MNCs / investment banking / FP&A?

Is the ROI good compared with CFA/CMA/MBA?

Are exemptions after BCom actually useful?

Would you recommend ACCA to someone who wants to build a career in finance?

Please give me your honest experience, including the negatives. I’m not looking for promotional answers.

Thanks!

Career Advice Job Market is really bad for ACCA Freshers

Anyone else finding it almost impossible to get their first ACCA job in India?

Im a BCom/Bsc graduate in Bangalore doing ACCA. Been applying like crazy for the past month. Got a 2 interviews but still no offer, even tho I have like Multiple internships and a Apprenticeship from a Well reputed bank

Most jobs I see are around 2-3 LPA. I really dont mind working hard but after doing ACCA I was hoping for atleast something around 4-6 LPA for a proper finance role, atleast untill my PER requirement can be done.

It honestly feels like every fresher job wants experience first. Is the market just this bad right now or am I missing something? Would like to hear from people who were in the same position.

Career Advice Want to pursue ACCA, but very bad financial background.

I am pursuing bcom from Delhi University, I know only bcom has no scope and I want to work in foreign and i always wanted to do acca for that, I am fully capable of doing that, I am sure i won't fail a single exam. But my parents can't afford it, I saw it cost around 4 lakh, my parents are barely able to pay my college fees and they don't understand that bcom has nothing in it. My parents are happy if I will be doing a 30k job after bcom, they don't care. I don't have any guidance please help me someone. I am the first person in my family who is pursuing bcom from a regular college specially from DU. I need help, any way I can manage the expense of ACCA, my life will be ruined after that, they don't even give me time they said you will have to do job after bcom, they don't understand a shit. I feel I am in a very wrong family. I even asked them for CA they said these things are not for us. We are poor they really said that 😭😭😭.

Career Advice Question to Acca Affilates

I genuinely wana ask que to acca affilates, during interview were you asked for your attempts or marks?
You might have to submit acca transcript as proof right?
So can we submit posetive only or detailed history
Do we have to provide that transcript during itnerview or in on boarding process after interview is cleared or what???

Because my marks for June - sept attempt are not that good! It’s pathetic actually, so my concern is do they ask for marks😭

or is there any problem if we score good marks in further attempts.

Please ans, and if there’s any affilate who can talk to me for like 10-15 min please dm me

Career Advice Should I accept a CA firm offer while pursuing ACCA, or wait to finish ACCA first?

I recently completed my bachelor of commerce with 9.27 cgpa ( which doesn’t matter and that is fact) but i got exemption of 5 paper of ACCA, and i have been applying to all big 4 and GCC for entry level account or audit roles and honestly not even one selection or short listed .

I also know that market is tough and rough also with 5 acca exemption i will not be able to compete with many applicant who are already acca affiliate or have completed 9/13 paper or 11/13 papers.

Catch is i have received offer letter from ca firm in Bangalore where my salary will be obviously less but i will be gaining experience in taxation, auditing as well as accounting .

So i just want all of your opinion and i guess most of other also will receive help from your opinions .

My opinion or thinking is that role in account and finance is unpredictable or you need strong network. So what i want to know is if i take CA firm job and continue my acca alongside it — does experience of 6 month to 1 year or might be 2 year of work experience in ca firm actually count or help after i clear skill level of acca or clear my acca paper .

Would they see my experience as relevant ?

Any honest advice would help and please don’t give me opinion regarding don’t pursue acca , market is bad because currently i am just a bcom graduate and i believe that having something is better then nothing( don’t give me other career alternative like ca, because i don’t want to grind my self in 2 year of articleship and before that ca inter)

Thank you

Career Advice I'm from a family with little to no business background, which course should I choose?

Hello there, currently in 12th ISC, grades are very average.

So I'm from a family who has little to no business background (90% of family members are science), but I do have one uncle who is a CA, and another uncle who is an intermediate and left after that

I'm from a middle class family too, so compared to CA, ACCA looks way more expensive and less worth it than CA

Should I really choose ACCA?

With CA I can easily land a job, but with ACCA i have a possibility to work abroad

And keep in mind that I really, REALLY want to work abroad.

So I'm a bit confused, which one is it?

I'm also asking this question because out of every friend of mine in commerce class, I'm the only one whose family has little to no business background

Career Advice Are there ACCA students/finalists around 23–25 in India in a similar situation?

I’m 23 and a 2023 BCom graduate from a Tier 3 college, currently 12/13 ACCA with no professional experience. I’m struggling to break into audit/assurance roles and keep seeing ACCA students my age already in Big 4/GCCs, campus-placed, or with 2–3 years of experience.

I want to look at this realistically and could use some guidance from this community:

  1. Is this a common bottleneck? Are there others who are nearly qualified but struggling to secure that first breakthrough? Or is this friction primarily due to coming from a non-target, Tier-3 college without campus support?
  2. Breaking into Big 4/Big 6 from the outside: Has anyone here successfully landed a role at a Big 4, Big 6, or major GCC without prior internships, work experience, or campus placement?
  3. The Dilemma: I am only getting shortlists for Accounts Executive/Bookkeeper roles, demanding a 2–3 year bond. I am hesitant to sign because I don't want to get stuck in core accounting when my goal is Audit.

AM I COOKED??

Would genuinely like to hear real experiences, especially from people who were in a similar position and eventually got their first job.

Career Advice Does EY only hire freshers via campus hiring now?

I saw so many linkedin posts of new associates at EY. All of them seem to be campus hires. Do they not hire freshers off campus anymore? I recently graduated from a tier 2 college, but only 1 company came for offline placements. The rest all that came in groups were random jobs with no call backs.

I've been following peeps from EY on linkedin and observed that most freshers are campus hires!! Any insights if i can get a job?.

I did apply on the website but didn't go for referrals as im preparing for an exam however i would like to get a job post December. Soo will i have any luck?

Career Advice cma india + acca without a bcom — will i face visa/job issues abroad? need advice!

hey everyone,

i'm a freshly qualified cma (icmai) with 15 months of firm articleship experience. planning to start acca soon since my main goal is to work abroad (or transition to big 4 / gccs in india).

since i have my cma, i get direct exemptions for the first 9 papers and only need to clear the 4 strategic professional ones.

my dilemma is that i don't have a bcom or any university bachelor's degree.

i'm planning to work locally in corporate finance/costing for 2 years while finishing acca, but i want to know if skipping a bcom will cause actual issues later with:

  1. work visas & embassy attestation: especially in gulf/middle east countries where labor ministries ask for a stamped bachelor's degree.
  2. pr points evaluation: for canada express entry / australia skilled visas (wes/vetassess).
  3. hr/ats filters: corporate portals dropping applications automatically if "bachelor's degree" is checked "no".

i'm considering enrolling in a low-effort online bcom (like online manipal or ignou) just to have the degree in hand.

for those who've done acca without a bcom and moved abroad (or work in big 4/mncs), is an online bcom necessary or am i overthinking this? since the obu bsc route is closed now, what's the best way forward?

thanks in advance!

Career Advice Should I go for a Job as a part qualified ACCA in India to get some experience or after qualifying ACCA fully?

Whether I should go for a Job in a corporate as a Part qualified? Or after qualifying ACCA fully? I have heard ACCA affiliates struggle to get the First Job as a fresher as they are overqualified for Reporting and Auditing roles . As such roles require qualification along with experience. I have recently got an Accounts Payable role . Should I I take it and study for the remaining papers? Or should I go and search job after qualifying fully? Accounts payable role with ₹25k per month in hand in Bangalore is demotivating me.

I am ACCA part qualified (11/13) .

I am from India .

I have no prior experience relating to accounting and Audit. I did my B. Com through distance mode.

Edit: Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I made a decision, going to apply for job now.

Career Advice B.Com final year student, confused about what to do next. Is ACCA worth it?

Hey everyone, I'm currently in my final year of B.Com, and honestly, I'm pretty confused about what to do after graduation.

I feel like I've wasted a lot of time because I haven't developed any proper skills or gained any work experience yet. Graduation is getting closer, and I'm starting to worry about what I'll do next.

I've been looking into ACCA, but I'm not sure if it's actually worth the money and effort, especially if I want to work abroad in the future. I haven't decided on a particular country yet, so I'm trying to figure out which career path would give me good opportunities both in India and internationally.

I'm also confused about whether I should pursue ACCA or another qualification, or focus on learning skills like Excel, Tally, Power BI, etc., and try to get an internship or a job first.

For those who've been through this or are working in finance or accounting, what would you recommend if you were in my position?

Is ACCA worth it? Are there better options after B.Com? And am I already late, or is it still possible to build a good career if I start taking things seriously now?

I'd really appreciate honest advice, especially from people with actual experience. Thanks
