Schedule

Registration opened Oct 11th

Registration closed Nov 13th

Receiving Oct 11th - Nov 30th

Exchanging Dec 1st - Dec 13th

Shipping Dec 14th - 19th

Important Notes

  1. USA or EU recommended, international shipments can be seized.
  2. Only Pepper seeds you have grown and harvested are being swapped
  3. Understand that you aren't guaranteed to get everything on your list, we do our best!
  4. The exchange is only as good as the seeds people trade in
  5. 5-20 is a good number of seed packs to send. 100+ it is unlikely you will get 1:1 trades (but still great if you want to share the love!)
  6. We decided this method instead of seed train because it is controlled from a central location. It can't be stolen / hijacked / lost.
  7. Sending in seeds that are super common like jalapeno or red cayenne is kinda crappy because not many people want them
  8. you can chat about the exchange on the discord https://discord.gg/4attXXE

Well, I told my wife I would not buy any new seeds next year. That makes trades allowed, right?

I have participated in these for the last 3 or 4 years, but can’t unfortunately this year. I only grew very few plants this year. However, I’ll be getting a greenhouse in the spring, so next year I’ll be back in full 🌶🌶🌶

For all newcomers, I fully recommend signing up for this, you’ll get so many seeds you never would have considered, and it makes for a very fun experience. Good luck with the exchange this year.

I just linked my original review posts to each of my seed listings. I'm at 25 packs of 10+ seeds, so I think I'll stop there. I am not expecting to get as many back, I just really want people to enjoy some good peppers.

How hot? I have some like aji amarillo I got from a friend with family in Peru that are hot / fun to cook with, but they're not face-melting...

This is great, and sorry if this is a silly questions but what is an accession number?

6

u/juanitospeppers Oct 12 '21

an auto generated number for your seeds

it helps us track specific seeds from specific people

Do people trade many medium spice peppers? I have some hot Portugal, some weird jalapeno/hot Portugal mix but none are overly hot. Edit: Oh just re-read, no Canada.

people from canada do send to us exchange. just costs more (and customs)

and yes all heat levels are welcome

Would tepin, pequin, and arbol peppers be a good addition to the exchange? Or are these in the realm of typical and not very desirable?

If you're a first timer who's only grown boring seeds (Jalapeno, piri piri, pimiento, Tabasco, cayenne) are you allowed to participate or not really?

Any interest in Datil peppers? Hot like Habanero but fruitier. A local St. Augustine, FL specialty, and these are grown here in St. Augustine.

I'm interested but I've never harvested seeds before. Do I just cut open ripe pods and remove the seeds? How about half ripe pods? Do I dry them first?

This is probably a stupid question--sorry in advance! The link above keeps sending me to 2020's exchange, where I'm automatically logged in. Do I need a new account, or can I use last year's account again? If so, how do I get to the 2021 exchange page? When I click "exchange" while logged in it just sends me right back to 2020. I can't get to the 2021 exchange page at all.

I'm really looking forward to this exchange. Some of my favorite peppers this year were from exchange seeds. Thanks again for organizing everything and for all your help!

Hello.

First year that I wanted to try the exchange but since there is no moderator for Europe that means for the moment there is no exchange in Europe? Or do we need to send to the USA moderator the seeds?

we'll find one hopefully is the idea.

I’d like to join but only have reaper, chocolate scorpion and habanero seeds I could send in, is that worth it?

There’s also a good chance they were cross pollinated, as they were grown together in my garden (also with sweet peppers). Any issue with that? I like to see what happens from pollination but imagine some want stable genetics….

u/juanitospeppers, I have another quick question for you. When it says "ONLINE PAYMENT PREFERRED," how do you want us to do that? Should we do a prepaid priority mail label for ourselves (US exchange), or is there another way to go about it? I'm all packed up, and I was just going to throw in some cash to cover the shipping, but I don't want to inconvenience you in any way.

The seeds I sent said they have arrived but the PDB does not say received. I am assuming it just isn’t updated because of the Holiday and or just so many shipments. Please tell me if I’m wrong.
