Hey there! Zeta here, random transgirl writing from Tucson, AZ, USA, though I'm honestly from all over the place.

And I'm honestly just trying to find my writing groove finally, and r/WritingPrompts has been an amazing inspiration on that front. It keeps me going when I'm feeling down, and gives me new things to write about even as I think about long-term projects in the back of my mind. Demons and dragons tend to be my jam, and I like to write characters that are way more complex than the tropes make you think they are. (Props also to A Practical Guide to Evil for inspiring a lot of that, and getting me writing again.)

Latest story is a late submission (just now in fact) for https://www.reddit.com/r/WritingPrompts/comments/jtk23b/wp_see_the_thing_most_people_dont_realize_about/gkoqqdm/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

And as far as words written? Not as many as I want, but more than I've ever written before, so that's a good start. Actually had my first day with over 1000 words a few weeks ago, which was a cheering milestone. :D

Hey everyone. I’m from Southwest, US, and joined Reddit recently for this group. I’ve done a couple of the prompts and find it to be a great exercise. I’ve spent most of my life writing as a hobby. I’ve been learning through writing, and other art mediums, how to work within various scopes for achievable goals. My motivation comes from making up stories in my head all day and finding it to be a healthy way to process them. I have a lot to learn. I use the Notes app, Scrivener, and Final Draft for writing.

Happy to meet you all!

Yeah, that's what I love about writing too! It's great when your ideas have turned into something!

Hi all! My name is Aaron, I'm a writer in the Chicago suburbs.

I've dabbled in writing story prompts now and again, did a few this past week, and am planning to write a few for the next few weeks before taking up the second draft of a novel I've been working on - a superhero origin story style reinterpretation of Greek mythology, centering on Prometheus and the titan - olympian war.

I've been writing for five years or so, had a few short stories published in magazines before turning to novels, which has been considerably harder.

I post short stories here sometimes: http://aarontellsstories.com/.

That sounds cool, good luck!

I live in South Carolina. The armpit of the east coast. I am a woman. I have a certain story I want to write, but I have a hard time writing without an audience. Also I need the practice. I've been writing off and on for about a decade. Paper and pen or Google docs, it's all the same. I also draw (poorly) and I'm developing a tabletop rpg based on my story idea. My motivation is my story. It's worth telling, I just wish I could've found it already written by a better writer than me... So I could just be a rabid fan wishing I came up with the idea myself. Writing fan fiction on my futon, while my wife mocks me from the couch. Oh well.

Keep at it and you'll find your writing improves!

Hello! I’m new to Reddit and this sub.(my account is 5 yrs old, but I just started commenting and posting). I am female and live in the US.

I haven’t written any words lately because I haven’t had any motivation/inspiration/time to. 😢

I feel like my writing isn’t even that good, and I can’t get the descriptive details right to pull a reader in. 😔

Welcome!

Is "Dark Angel" a reference to that Jessica Alba show? 😀

I feel like my writing isn’t even that good, and I can’t get the descriptive details right to pull a reader in. 😔

Keep at it and you'll find your writing improves!

No honestly. It’s a username I’ve used for everything since high school (I’m 28 now lol). I’m definitely gonna keep trying.

Simply put less is often more. Word counts can be arbitrary, and typically harm the story in question. Striving for specific word-counts is counterintuitive.

Call me Posh. I’m a writer from the Midwestern US. I just use Google Docs most of the time.

This account is mainly for writing semi complete short stories. If the idea pops into my head I’ll write about it. Follow me if you’re interested in reading them. Or just go through my post history. Either is appreciated.

1

u/MajorParadox Jan 24 '21

Good point! However, I would still say there is use in tracking your progress via word counts, especially if you get blocked easily.

2

u/IgotRedditformyPa Jan 24 '21

I can see that, though I prefer episodic/short form writing myself. More like screenplays but you know, books

Kia ora,

I’m Simon, and I’ve been writing in some form for most of my life, although never with great consistency.

Currently I teach physics at a university here in New Zealand. Despite our excellent covid response, 2020 was a disruptive year, leading to increased workload and less time for hobbies and past times, meaning many of my creative pursuits were left untended.

My writing has covered different formats, and I have at various stages toyed with most genres. The one thing that has been consistent is my desire to communicate and tell stories! But I love all media, and the different stories I envisage suit different formats. Screenplays have probably had the most attention over the past couple of decades- in fact, the only writing projects I have ever satisfactorily finished outside my academic career are screenplays (including one which an indie/small-time producer was interested in, but couldn’t secure enough funding). But I have also worked on novels, stage plays, video games, board games, and non-fiction projects.

My current works-in-progress involving writing are a stage play (comedy) and a physics educational resource for high school physics, with occasional attention being given to a mobile game that will merge choose-your-own-adventure stories with board-game style elements, and a sci-fi novel which I’m currently outlining.

As you can probably tell, I just enjoy being creative! With so many different ideas and projects on the go, I never really complete much... but I also find that doesn’t particularly bother me. If I wasn’t working on any of them, then I might be bothered... which is what has happened lately with the previously mentioned increased workloads!

I’ve been on reddit for a few years, and this was one of the first subreddits I found, but only in the last couple of weeks have I written anything to post! I think the outlet this provides is great, and I do hope to be more consistent with this than some of my other pursuits!

Ngā mihi, Simon

Glad you finally got into posting here! It really is a great outlet!

I have a dog now, and with homeschooling as well as working at home, I basically have no chunks of time. I need to learn to write in 5 min bits, as getting 45-60 mins to actually do a chapter or something, is not going to happen again for a while!

1

u/MajorParadox Jan 24 '21

Good luck finding those moments! Also, got any dog photos you can share? 😀

2

u/Thetallerestpaul Jan 24 '21

Yeah, Eyebleach channel on the discord is a frequent spot for dog photos. Just a plug for hitting that channel as well!

Hi everyone,

I’m Matthew, 33 from the UK.

Always been interested in reading and writing stories, started my own RPG Wrestling Federation when I was 12 (lol) but now more interested in writing short stories, mainly horror, mystery etc

Found this sub about a year ago and have been scattering a few prompts since, amazed by some of the replies I’ve had, there is some incredible talent on here.

My dream has always been to become an author, maybe I’ll get there one day who knows?’

1

u/MajorParadox Jan 24 '21

Hi, Matthew! You can become an author, just keep at it!

3

u/Wachir Jan 24 '21

Hi, I'm Wachir. I'm from Thailand.

I have written so many words this week, but they're mostly reports, documents, and academic papers. (This week, I wrote approx 5,000 words of them). Creative writing though? Very few.

Why am I not writing more? There is no excuse.

2

u/MajorParadox Jan 24 '21

No problem, how about try for more creative writing words this week! Even if it's just a little more, it's still more than otherwise 🙂

3

u/sleepymacaroni Jan 24 '21

Hi Wachir!

Ugh nothing to kill your will to read and write such as academia. I think I completely stopped reading fiction during uni, and for years after.

Good on you for pushing through 5k words of academic writing though!
