Video Cyberpunk 2077 — Night City Wire: Episode 1

u/black--treacle Jun 25 '20
One of my favorite things about RPGs is how they handle dialogue options and I’m really loving these and the UI for it
17
Jun 25 '20 edited Jun 25 '20
I was thinking the same. If the dialogue options aren't handled well it is a big turnoff.

Do we know when episode 2 is going to be?

Jun 25 '20
Geoff said two weeks from now

Jun 25 '20
I don't even think I'll watch it. They have me guaranteed as customer #1,244,876 so I needn't see anymore gameplay or spoiler-y anything from the game. I'll just chill... Wait until the ps5 comes out and get it then.

sorry Im confused, Do you know if they are they releasing anything else today or everything they're releasing was in EP 1 this morning?
2
u/TheRoyalStig Jun 25 '20
Today was just this episode and then whatever the folks who got to play have posted about it. More stuff will be in episode 2 in a couple weeks.

Oooooh, I'm sold. I don't need any more footage from the game. This looks absofuckinglutely fantastic, the characters are stellar and unique, the lighting is phenomenal, gameplay is a-ok. The weapons look a bit strange from behind, maybe a slight angle would help and the weapon sounds are so-so, but I didn't watch all the footage, just parts of it, so I'm just nitpicking. Fuck, all I need is a few months of hibernation. :DDD
13
u/Shastars Jun 25 '20
Yeah same, I don't need any more footage. I'm going as radio silent as I can and not watch any more of these as I want to go in as blind as possible. Can't wait!
55
u/247_Make_It_So Jun 25 '20
I am so happy there will be new footage for Youtube channels to use in their vids.
9
u/SetYourGoals Jun 25 '20
I saw one that literally just reuploaded the pre-alpha gameplay a month or two ago and got like 4 million views.
30
u/akashneo Jun 25 '20 edited Jun 25 '20
Loved the prologue trailer, mixed feelings about brain dance and definitely loved the clips of city.
I think they could have chosen better gameplay to show then brain dance which feels straight out batman and Detroit game. Seeing the few clips they showed in between I definitely think they could have showed something else.
13
u/Fender159 Jun 25 '20
They changed the male VA?
28
u/matt111199 Jun 25 '20 edited Jun 25 '20
Male V has one VA, but apparently provides multiple accents / talking styles—which changes depending on how you customize the character.
If you look at the cinematic from last year, you can see a clear difference.
So a corpo male V will talk somewhat differently than a Streetkid V would.
12
Jun 25 '20
Surely not. No way they recorded every single line 3x for each different background 2x again for male & female!?
16
u/matt111199 Jun 25 '20
I don’t believe it’d be for every instance—for sure. But many of the reviewers made it clear that V said certain things, in different ways, depending on your background a lot of the times.
The most obvious one I can think of is that when the reviewers died in the Braindance, they interacted with the woman with green hair in very different ways when they woke up based on their life-path.
8
Jun 25 '20
I mean I get having different responses based on the life story - that's fine and it's what they've been promoting. What I wasn't expecting (and remains to be confirmed) is that the overall voice acting is different depending on the life path (e.g. a corpo enunciates differently from a street kid).
But I think you're right.
6
u/KateGlass Jun 25 '20
Given it's CD Projekt Red, i wouldn't be to quick to dismiss that idea. The amount of work they've put into this game, a long recording session of voice lines would be a minor issue i recon
5
u/matt111199 Jun 25 '20
Also, while a very different game, DA Inquisition did have 2 (maybe 3—I can’t remember) voice actors for both the male and female main character.
While V would might have one VA for all the lines, changes in inflections and nuances isn’t unprecedented.
3
u/Fender159 Jun 26 '20
I didn’t really look up the older videos to compare, but I distinctly remember V having a younger and easier going voice in the cinematic trailer. He sounds a bit older, douchier here.

u/Waitaha Jun 25 '20
I used to make jokes about the world ending before this game is released.
I stopped making those jokes.

Good thing everything CDPR has shown has been of the prologue, then. Not many spoilers past that.

Jun 25 '20
Would not surprise me, it's a pretty common. Guessing it's after the job with Dex goes awry and you have to 'start again' from the bottom.

u/the_jak Jun 26 '20
A mechanic in the table top game is that you can take your victims to a body shop where they will chop shop human bodies. I imagine when you wake up in that trash heap you'll be lucky to still have eyes and kidneys.

u/isthisnametakenagain Jun 26 '20
Most people are saying its an upgrade and when dex kills you everything is scavenged off of your body and when you are resurrected all of your augments are basically reset.
6
Jun 25 '20
34
u/Wubbledaddy Jun 25 '20
I think they're saying that it's impressive because that already looks like so much content.
1
u/PengwinOnShroom Jun 26 '20
Also that if there was some stuff that can be considered as spoilers it's only at the beginning
6
Jun 25 '20
9
u/the_jak Jun 26 '20
White orchard had a fuck ton of stuff to do for a starting area. Hell, there are games shorter than the white orchard quests and smaller than that map segment.
2
u/rufioherpderp Jun 26 '20
Thought I read somewhere that it's all one map and hence no loading screens.
10
Jun 25 '20
23
u/shozlamen Jun 25 '20
Keanu apparently recorded more lines than anybody else, and he doesn't appear until the very end of the prologue so I'm not too worried.
18
u/pforsbergfan9 Jun 25 '20
Keanu has the 2nd most lines recorded in the game and none of the previewed even got to him... that’s a lot of content. Do you think they blew their load on the 1st 4 hours and then nothing?
8
u/BargleFargle12 Jun 26 '20
Well, considering the "prologue" of Witcher 3 is like 10 hours with sidequests, this isn't too surprising.

Jun 25 '20
I genuinely was shocked in a way that a gaming presentation has not shocked me in a long, long time. That was fucking AWESOME
3
u/isthisnametakenagain Jun 26 '20
The shot of the corpo start when they were high in the air and it was rainy nighttime really made me double take, I had to stand out of my chair because it was so shocking seeing how beautiful it was.
6
Jun 25 '20
Yeah I was definitely surprised.
The amount of they're throwing at QUALITY extras for CP2077 is awesome. The merch was pretty meh, but comics and Studio Trigger anime, just damn son. Slow it down my body is so not ready.
1
1
u/Liekidi Jun 26 '20
Which of their animes would you suggest I start with to get a feel for the company' style and talent?
0
u/Luckyhipster Jun 26 '20
Gurren Lagann is the one I would go with. It's a bit slow at the start but it gets really good at the mid way point.
For a movie I'd go with Promare really solid movie!
1
u/Liekidi Jun 26 '20
Thanks for the recommend!
1
u/VaraLeon Jun 26 '20
Gurren Lagann was not made specifically by Trigger but the people who helped make it are now Trigger. Kill la Kill is what I recommend.
0
u/KhaldiumIsotpe Jun 26 '20
I haven't seen kill la kill but heard good thing about it, but the movie "Promare" is quite good animation and music wise, really looking forward to see them animating Night City.

I’ve been waiting to upgrade my PC for two years now. I’m only doing it a week before actual confirmed release so that I can get all the latest hardware at that time. My current PC has been chugging along since 2011. Cannot wait for November.
3
u/SetYourGoals Jun 25 '20
Better be careful about parts being available though. A lot of people might be thinking the same way you are, a lot of people are going to build their first PC just for this game, and getting your hands on a 3000 series or even a 2080 ti could be challenging around then.

u/danz56 Jun 25 '20
This is probably a time of day problem, but the npc and vehicle count was low. I don't really care about an insane number but there should be a moderate amount at least. As for their actions and behavior, that looked pretty well done.
Braindance wasn't an interesting selection for the first episode of the series. It was too technical and boring, it can turn out to be an interesting game mechanic but addressing the more general aspects of the game like gameplay would have been a far better choice imo. The B-roll contains this but YouTube compression sucks. Makes it tougher to appreciate the gorgeous visuals.
The character models were phenomenal. Cars reminded me of recent NFS games which is an achievement for an rpg. And the lighting, how the neon lit up the streets was truly breathtaking.
Judy was <3

2
u/closetsquirrel Jun 26 '20
Maybe I’m weird but I loved Braindance. It’s like a mystery puzzle game.
1
u/danz56 Jun 26 '20
I'm not saying it's inherently bad, just that it shouldn't have been the focus of the first episode, future ones sure.
0
Jun 25 '20
3
u/danz56 Jun 26 '20
Agreed. The decision made was strange, didn't feel like a strong showcase for the mechanic because of the tutorial. CDPR works in mysterious ways I guess.
5
9
10
u/Xenro Jun 25 '20
Will we need Braindance to complete quests or is it just a mode to expand on the story? It does not look fun.
1
1
u/walkingman24 Jun 26 '20
My guess based on how it's presented is that it will become somewhat necessary in some quests
12
u/Argossilver Jun 25 '20
I have some mixed feelings about the reveal and choice of content that CDPR went with when putting this together.
On the plus side; If everything we are seeing is just from the Prologue as implied, that's still pretty cool. They showed off a lot with clearly more to discover, they reconfirmed there are the 6 major districts along with the Badlands for a 7th. As GTA-like as it does look, I'm still very interesting in exploring it for myself and seeing what is out there. Its also been nice to see that each 'life-path' will have a different start and reason for being in Night City... though hopefully they continue to feel unique through out the entire game.
The visuals were great, though I have to agree with a few others that I hope we can turn off chromatic aberration if we want to. I did generally like most of the information that was related to CP 2077.
I wasn't so happy they seemed to devote so much of this to stuff other then the game though. I love Anime and its quite cool that they landed Trigger to do it.. but from their own admission it won't be until 2022. Why did they need to waste time with an IRL video of people who, and I'm sorry, I just don't care about in relation to CP 2077. If the Anime was anywhere ready to be viewed, that might be a different story.. but not when its 2 years out.
The other problem was honestly the Braindance. We didn't need to sit through a tutorial we are going to have in game. We didn't need to have those awkward pauses and instruction. It didn't add much, and if anything it took away from the experience. And while cool, sure its like some sort of future-tech detective mode... its not something we haven't seen in part or in whole from other games. It simply was not interesting enough or insightful enough to have a spot as something 'exciting' to show off.
Personally I would have much preferred a spotlight on the RPG elements and what changes they have made to perks and attributes. This or more information on gun customization or cyber-wear. Hopefully these will be coming in a future Wire.
Overall it wasn't a bad information drop, and we are getting a lot of other (if of course very similar) info from the previews. Any news is welcome, and its nice to see the game still looks great and has promise... but given our complete lack of info prior it feels like more could have been done for a first reveal like this.

Jun 25 '20
I actually agree with you RE the brain dance section, I think just seeing some of it in action with a short explanation of what it's about would have been going enough, and while I'm really excited to watch the anime..2 years out? I think they need to learn from past mistakes and not announce things until it's MUCH closer to the time, being so far away doesn't help generate hype for it.
2
u/FrkFrJss Jun 25 '20
I think showing the BD footage would be cool as a sort of one-off gameplay demos. I agree with you in the sentiment that, while cool, it wasn't really what I was looking for the first real gameplay footage we've had in months.
I think part of what explains it is that this footage was prepared for the June 11 release, which means it was probably recorded and edited weeks in advance. The point at which it was decided to use the BD for the first footage probably took place well in advance of the delays and before people were as frustrated with CDPR as they were after the delays.
What hyped me more was actually the cut-up slices that were shown after the NCW.

Some not so original stuff here...Braindance reconstruction part looks like it's sort of been lifted from Detroit: become human. Adam Smasher(?) looks like a carbon copy of General Cross from Rage 2.
Looks great overall though, love how detailed everything is. The prologue length doesn't surprise me - the first area - white orchard in Witcher 3 was pretty lengthy.
Also wondering what the game will look like and how it will perform on my launch ps4...
19
u/hamarok Jun 25 '20
Adam Smasher is an old character, it wasnt made just for this game

I got serious Strange Days vibes from the Braindance section, to the extent I'm 100% sure they used it for inspiration. The whole store robbery ending in a death scenario is VERY similar to the opening scene. One of my favorite cyberpunk films.

Tbh there were no need to show the braindance, it's literally the detective mode of Batman Arkham, this feature has nothing special about it. Hopefully Episode 2 will show something valuable.
2
u/MemeGamer24 Jun 26 '20
Agreed, honestly didn't look anything that special but still might be fun. Maybe for people who didn't play the Arkham games it might look really cool but it's nothing that hasn't been done before

The fact that the PC requirements still havent been released leads me to believe that this game is going to be just as demanding as RDR2, aka its not going to be as easy to run as people are expecting it to be.
2
u/Teyanis Jun 25 '20
If its at all optimized it will be a lot easier to run that RDR2. That game is a mess optimization wize.
They've got plenty of extra time to nail it down at least.

Anyone have an idea as to why Pavel showed off his notebook, and how it might show up in-game like he said? That segment seemed a bit out of place with the rest of the episode to me.

Also, prologues are pretty brief. I don't think it'll will be a few hours, much less.

I dont understand brain dance can anyone explain to me pls!
2
u/KaiG1987 Jun 26 '20
It's recorded sensory experiences of people who have Brain Dance recording hardware, which may then be experienced by other people through neural interfaces.
In the example, they were using the BD recording to discover information that wasn't immediately obvious, like a detective going over a CCTV recording frame by frame.
1
u/ItsAllLove2020 Jun 26 '20
It's just a video recording of a past event dude, where you can rewind, pause, and fast forward it to re-examine it to look for clues and evidence.

So how do we feel about Keanu? His Face is still looking a little janky. The rest of the game is incredible.
1
u/ArkonianDeath Jun 25 '20
I wasn't impressed with the event itself but the previews made by journalists and content creators helped restore some faith that I had lost over CDPRED.
That said I still think that management wise it was handled poorly.
Luckily they have people like Pawel that inspire hype just by looking at his face :D
Some of the previews said that they were not impressed with the gunplay or the driving, but they were not coherent (some said that they loved the driving but not the gunplay and vice versa).
Luckily the devs have months to work on it. I was really happy to see (finally) new gameplay. I hope they'll show the character creator in the next episodes.
1
u/Fallen_Reborn Jun 25 '20
This game looks amazing! They put out A++++ releases.
I've gained a ton of respect for CD Project Red over the past year or so. They've been completely open with people about why they made the decision each time to push back the release and I for one am glad they did. If giving us a game that has close to 0 issues takes some extra time, then I'm happy to wait.
1
Jun 26 '20
One thing I’m pretty mad about is the fact that you get 6 different dick types but only one vag type? Like wtf? If it’s a slit type vag without The abilities to make Arby’s roast beef I will refund the game
1
u/FunkyEnigma Jun 26 '20
It seems like braindance will be the Gwent of Cyberpunk. It seems like something they've put a lot of development into as hopefully a unique way to drive the story forward, and I hope it is actually fun. I have a feeling that it will pop up a lot, and that a lot of people will be less than thrilled. Hopefully the presence of it indicates some quality cinematic tools for us though.
1
u/baddazoner Jun 26 '20
Watched a few videos here and there hopefully they fix driving as whatever video I was watching the handling looked terrible i knew there was a reason they drove slowly on all other game play vids to mask it
Shooting looked meh as well hopefully they tweak it as 50 hours of that could get tiring
1
Jun 26 '20
cool stuff but god i hate delays. i know more polish and all but still so i guess nov instead of sept now might be likely due to also launching near the launch of the next gen systems too imagine?
yay? still considering ill have more or less NOTHING to do in the meantime would have been nice to have something in sept lol
-4
u/ItsAllLove2020 Jun 25 '20
Yeah...this is another Death Stranding situation. People will realize when the manufactured hype stops blinding them. There's a reason they are scared to show off gameplay. All this talk of an anime, custom consoles, notebooks, and comic books mean nothing. It's like a creepy 62 year old woman's dad trying to get you to marry her, and promising to give you all these extra gifts along with her. They know their game sucks, that's why they dance around it so much.

The prologue looks incredible and the Braindance looks quite interesting. I like how we can explore more of the background of society than just looking at notes or watching a video clip.
