u/bobu112, I'm quite new to The Rise and Fall of the Ottoman Empire, can you explain this series to me please?

Ol’ Otto takes clays that don’t belong to him with the justification of “empire”, but can’t maintain the facade forever: the Ottoman stubbornness to retain its conquered lands leaves the state plagued with external competition and internal enemies. Oh, and everyone else is similarly not as benign.

fellow southeast Asian: don't start down that rabbit hole. I started with some wikipedia articles (hhm what's ottoman), a few documentaries on youtube ("The Ottomans: Europe's Muslim Emperors), now I have watched 400+ hours of Turkish soap opera and achieved Level 2+ Turkish on Duolingo.

Why specifically the number "17" as opposed to any other number like "18" or "19"

Normally, I like expressive eyes. However, I like how Austria looked cold, dead, and emotionally catatonic throughout this. It added something I can't define.
Also, the blood offscreen in the last panel was great.

I don't know what's scarier, the fact that Austria has the same dead fish eyes throughout the whole series, or the fact that Austria always talks (is written?) in that disturbing font.
Or maybe I should be scared at how much I enjoy this series

Context: The tension between the Egyptian magistrate and the Sultan culminated in the Egyptian-Ottoman Wars, where the Egyptians nearly seized Constantinople and would have deposed the Sultan if not for the intervention of the European powers, who did not wish for their influence in the region to decrease under a more competent Egyptian regime.
