Tips for DDS?

So I got the DDS games. What tips can you offer me? I played Persona 3-5 and Nocturne, and here's what little I already know about DDS:

  • Press Turn system like in Nocturne

  • Buffs and debuffs are nerfed, can cast three stacks with progressively weaker effects

  • No demon negotiation/fusion, you eat them instead to get their skills, and you can get sick if you don't have the skill called Iron Stomach

  • You don't get a game over until your whole party dies

How should I build the characters? What skills are good? What else should I know?

Not in DDS1. Buffs stack 4 times in DDS1.

you eat them instead to get their skills,

Hmm...Sort of. This explanation is a little too simplistic of the mantra system. The mantra system I'd say is like an evolved form of Nocturne's magatamas. You buy a mantra (which is automatically equipped upon purchase), which come with a set of skills that you get all at once once you gain enough Atma Points (unlike Nocturne where you get skills one at a time as you level up). You do not need to use hunt skills to get Atma Points, but it is a lot faster if you do.

How should I build the characters?

Each party member has their own specialties, so you should focus on the mantra tree of their specialty (eg Heat is a phys-oriented user, so have him focus on the phys mantras). For Serph (MC), I'd recommend going Ma because it provides both Ma power and defense, though a str build is still viable (I actually went str on my first playthrough).

Additional tips:

  • A mantra line that's a must-grind for all party members (doesn't apply to Cielo because he has an ailment weakness, and there isn't a singular mantra line you can just grind to get rid of his weakness) is the element that a party member is weak too. For example, Serph is weak to fire, so have him grind the fire mantra line. This is because you'll eventually get a passive that grants a resistance to that element, thus eliminating the weakness.

  • Use shield skills in boss fights. Very useful, and I was dumb not to use them more.

  • In DDS1, buffs and debuffs are found in the Hama and Mudo mantra lines (respectively, I think?). In DDS2 though, buffs and debuffs get their own lines and aren't tied to Hama and Mudo.

Strength builds are OP

Magic is useless like in nocturne

build either magic or strength, and make use of hunt skills. at the beginning they are kind of useless (since i think they are percentage based), but later on they are a godsend for leveling mantras.

Kill them before they kill you
