Silvassa has 3-4 parks, one of them with boating.
Has a deer sanctuary. They used to allow vehicles inside before, they don't anymore.
Has a lion safari which has two almost dead lions since God knows when.
There is a place nearby- Dudhani- which has water sports.
Daman is close by for beaches and booze. The beaches aren't spectacular though, the water is pretty dirty in all of them.

Is there a story behind Dadra & Nagar Haveli's name? and why is it a Union Territory?

It's a Union Territory for the same reasons Puducherry, Daman and Diu are also Union Territories. It wasn't a part of British India, but instead it was a part of another colonial power (Portuguese in this case) and gained independence after 1947 and wasn't integrated into any state.

In order to keep the English at bay and to enlist their support against the Mughals, the Marathas made friends with the Portuguese and signed a treaty in 1779. According to this historic treaty of friendship, the Maratha-Peshwa agreed that the Portuguese will be allowed to collect revenue from Dadra and Nagar Haveli which consisted of 72 villages, then known as parganas in compensation for their loss of a warship called ‘Santana’ which had earlier been captured by the Marathas but not surrendered to the Portuguese inspite of their many entreaties. *These territories were earlier ruled by the Koli chiefs who were defeated by the Hindu kings of Jawhar and Ramnagar. The Marathas conquered and annexed these territories to their kingdom.
Dadra and Nagar Haveli are two distinct pockets with some Gujarat lying in between.
Silvassa ( Silva means wood in Portuguese) became capital.
Was liberated only in 1954.

Related to this post, other than Delhi, Chandigarh, A&N Islands, Laksdweep, not sure why we have other UTs. Why not incorporate them in other states or give Goa full statehood

Goa is a state, right?

It's still a UT too just like Delhi. Usually Maharashtra Governor also use to hold additional charge of Goa as Lt. Gov.

Was there 2 days go for a wedding - the place looks like a shithole. The resorts were awesome but Silvassa was crap, except for the cheap booze, which you can find in Daman anyways and Daman is a much cleaner, much bigger city. I couldn't even get a decent bouquet made in Silvassa.
