Oh my god, this episode was shitty. The God serena and invel fight are just garbage in general, but the whole episode was just ugly to look at.

You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for next episode. I swear they better do it right.

Also if next episode fails. For you anime onlys, please search up ft chapter 499. That is how next episode should feel.

7

u/Kurosaki_taichou Apr 27 '19

After the horrible quality of this episode, I doubt it.

10

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

Yeah it felt like a filler episode. At least with the first half. Idk I’m starting to give up hope for some good animation. Next episode will really decide it.

u/NikolasKage3 Apr 27 '19

Like, they can't even do Gildarts right. Gildarts, of all people...

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '19

i know right ft is shit now

3

u/EndofTimes27 Apr 28 '19

He looks like someone from One Piece rn..

1

u/NikolasKage3 Apr 28 '19

Just so it's clear, I'm not talking about his appearance, but his attacks etc...

1

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

I take it you skipped the preview.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

I saw it. Why?

1

u/Tae106 Apr 27 '19

The animation is shit in the preview as well, which preview did you watch? Lol.

1

u/Kurosaki_taichou Apr 27 '19

Actually you are right. The preview is of better quality.

1

u/neaco23 Apr 28 '19

This is very true. Episode 499 contains out next fight sequence which I’m sure we’ve all worked out. On a side note, this fight better be good as it’s the one I’ve waited for the most.

10

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

What if you... wanted animation...

But A-1 said

7

u/RIPLeviathansux Apr 28 '19

So ungrateful smh my head, you don't like powerpoint presentations?

10

u/trulyanonymous- Apr 28 '19

I’m shipping Rogue and Minerva so hard. They’re perfect together.

19

u/trulyanonymous- Apr 28 '19

Gildarts looks awful

17

u/weinerdonkey Apr 27 '19

If Gildarts turned Brandish into 50 tiny Brandish, could each of them grow to normal size to make 49 Brandish clones?

12

u/Kurosaki_taichou Apr 27 '19

This is going to be their world domination plan. Crush, grow, repeat.

4

u/JK-Network123 Apr 27 '19

That’s actually a good question lmao.

7

u/Blazingvegeta Apr 28 '19

Is just me or the pacing started to slow during this episode i swear we did not cover three chapters this episode

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '19

It’s because they padded the episode with so many random shots. Felt like filler

12

u/Corachea0104 Apr 27 '19

WTf is this picture shakig animation style😑 they better not do the same thing on natsu vs.gray fight

7

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

We can only hope

11

u/ConnorRoseSaiyan01 Apr 28 '19

- Like in Tartaros the recap was really not necessary.

- I lost all hope they would adapt and improve moments from the manga so I can't be too disappointed with the Serena Gildarts clash. Still disappointing

- What the hell was up with those freeze frames?

- "Who is your true self?" Even in the manga I had no idea what that meant

- Why did Invel think going to the battlefield was a good idea? If he fall then Mavis' Ice Lock is broken

- Never understood why Gray has to activate Devil Slayer magic with the random tattoos rather than it just being there

- Did they really mistranslated Devil Slayer for Dragon Slayer?

- Why doesn't Gray ever eat ice? Surly he could have done it with Ice Lock? Silver was shown eating ice.

Honestly not a fan of the episode. Animation was pretty bad. There was not much of a story structure till Invel came and even then the "fight" just consisted with him just standing around shooting ice.

1

u/PokeVitinho Apr 28 '19

In portuguese brazil they did the same with this translation

11

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

And so God Serena's remaining four elements, assuming they're different and not just doubles of his first four, remain within our imaginations.

But real talk, this episode is part of why I respect Invel as a villain. He's one of the very few to acknowledge the ways Fairy Tail's strength exceeds his own, and he turns that on its head and into his own greatest strength. He knows how to hurt Fairy Tail the most: getting them to hurt each other.

10

u/NikolasKage3 Apr 27 '19

Invel is the first and only Spriggan that is actually serious and scary. Maybe even Ajeel, but far inferior to Invel. And the way he is taken down is the most pleasing out of all in this entire arc.

13

u/trulyanonymous- Apr 28 '19

Bloodman was serious and scary. He was having people run away while coughing up blood. Yikes.

8

u/NikolasKage3 Apr 28 '19

Sorry, I forgot to mention him. His fight with Gajeel is my 2nd favorite in Alvarez, after Invel Vs Gray. It also had sakuga moments in it.

7

u/Kai133 Apr 28 '19

Bloodman is far more serious and better in general then invel imo, I honestly don't even like invel. He was just another one of many ice users who gray fights (not to mention his defeat was bullshit).

3

u/RajSViper Apr 28 '19

Bloodman sucked. Gray defeating Invel made a lot more sense than Gajeel conveniently pulling out asspull powerups in his bs victories in general.

5

u/trulyanonymous- Apr 28 '19

Let’s not act like Gray getting a powerup from his dad that we didn’t know was alive isn’t an asspull.

5

u/trulyanonymous- Apr 28 '19

Foreshadowed? Gray’s dad appeared in the Tartaros arc. That’s it. There was no foreshadowing because we thought his dad was dead throughout the whole series. Then he randomly appears in this one arc and conveniently using the same element as his son that he hadn’t seen in years. If you’re talking about the Sun village arc, that’s still directly connected to the Tartaros arc. It’s not really foreshadowing since the the person who froze Atlas flame appears a few chapters later.

How well written and logical. I’m a Gray fan but this is a big reach. There was minimal foreshadowing. The logic was minimal. Mashima just needed Gray to get a power up because Ice Make wasn’t cutting it anymore. At all. Can’t defeat END by making an ice hammer.

3

u/Kai133 Apr 28 '19

Wasn't bs at all when it made perfect sense how gajeel absorbed the trace amounts of iron in bloodmans bane particles to match his curse and deal physical damage to bloodmans body. Unlike gray who couldn't do shit to invel until juvia "seemingly" died, giving gray a bs rage induced powerup lol. Invel was countering his shitty ass devil slayer mode, but magically out of nowhere him seeing juvia "die" (and her saving him through some bullshit) gives him a powerup some how 😂.

Not to mention devil slayer magic is a convenient asspull in of itself, made specifically for gray to make him seem stronger. It's literally the most useless slayer magic behind God slayer magic and only has one user and one element lol.

1

u/anonlymouse Apr 29 '19

Natsu already established that it's possible to eat a new type of element in extreme situations. Laxus showed it was possible to eat bane particles Gajeel also was able to eat shadow, and had previously shown that he could eat carbon to go into steel form. So this was hardly an ass-pull. It would have been more surprising if he hadn't done that.

3

u/Tae106 Apr 27 '19

Lol what? I'd give that title to bloodman easily. He's the only one who managed to kill a fairy tail member before Eileen fucked everything up and the way invel is taken down through a bs rage induced power up from gray, thinking juvia died. Yet gray couldn't do shit to invel before that point. Invel was not impressive at all and his ice chains and magic in general is inconsistent.

2

u/dragonballzT Apr 28 '19

This is hilarious. Gajeel killing Bradman was the BS moment and it was a shit to seen How the hell is Grays rage boost BS? His lover just died ffs. By your flawed all logic all rage boosts are BS!

1

u/NikolasKage3 Apr 28 '19

I know and agree about Bloodman. It's just that his personality wasn't really scary. But, his desing and powers are awesome.

7

u/Eizui Apr 28 '19

Very 'meh' episode. Disappointed.

  • God Serena, the strongest mage of Ishgar, got one-shot for the second time (first by Acnologia, now by Gildarts). If they didn't nerf Alvarez to the ground, God Serena vs Gildarts could've been a very tight battle. It's just so damn unrealistic and annoying. And I won't talk about the 10 minute boring 'fighting' scene/slideshow between them, each one of Fairy Tail's face, and Romeo. I literally had to skip 1/3 of the episode so I don't die from boredom.

  • The other 1/3 of the episode was Fairy Tail dealing with the soldiers or some members of the twelve on the battlefield, which wasn't that exciting either.

  • And, finally, the only cool and exciting part of the episode was Invel's and Brandish's appearance on the battlefield. Brandish alone could kill anyone she wanted by shrinking their organs, but of course they waste her character. Sad, because she's my favorite from the Spriggan 12.

I get it Fairy Tail are the main characters, but it's so boring and unrealistic if they always win, especially against a threat like Alvarez. At least make it a 50/50 for once. Oh well, we can only hope they don't ruin the next episodes.

4

u/anonlymouse Apr 29 '19
God Serena, the strongest mage of Ishgar,

He's not though. The Wizard Saints are also selected on political grounds. Gildarts would never be accepted, even though pretty much everyone knows he's stronger.

1

u/Madneptune95 May 03 '19 edited May 03 '19

God Serena May be the strongest mage in Ishgar, but as stated in the episode, because he was already killed the historia version Gildarts fights isn’t at full power. This is also mentioned in the fight between the other historias and Minerva and Rogue. If you didn’t “skip 1/3 of the episode to not die out of boredom,” this may have not slipped past you.

At this point, you’re 306 episodes into the anime. My suggestion would be to fight through the boredom and just try your hardest to enjoy the little things. I’m not super thrilled with the episode (or much of this season in general) either. But skipping through the episodes at this point because they’re “boring” doesn’t really make any sense either does it? I feel you’re doing yourself a disservice, but that’s just one mans humble opinion.

Happy watching friend. Hope you find a way to enjoy the last few episodes.

u/jbenson255 Apr 28 '19

Animation is a joke only reason to even watch the anime is for the music there are better motion manga on YouTube then the trash they are putting out

0

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '19

4

u/Benrox Apr 28 '19

That’s not gonna happen lmao. It’s not bad but I’ve seen better

0

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '19

2

u/Benrox Apr 28 '19

To be fair OPM is a seasonal Seinen while FT is a long running weekly shonen

11

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

4

u/Tae106 Apr 27 '19

It's only going to get worse from here lol.

1

u/Elgato01 Apr 28 '19

You clearly haven’t seen a lot of anime

8

u/gt- Apr 28 '19

Most shows, especially ones with the popularity of fairy tail, have much better animation than 4 frames and screen shake.

People say OPM Season 2 looks bad, but it looks like a feature film compared to this shit. Fairy tail is way too big of a show to have the same quality as a college art project

1

u/Altairlio Apr 28 '19

DragonBall Supers first three arcs and the two movies that aren’t broly. Some of the worst animation and it’s for 1 of the big three shows lol

1

u/My-Life-For-Auir Apr 28 '19

Battle of Gods and Revival of F have amazing animation in their movie form. Like really really good.

It's their anime adaptions that are fucking awful

1

u/Elgato01 Apr 28 '19

Dbs looked far worse for most of the first 30 episodes. Also when a series just makes a lot of money committees just do the least possible amount of work since they know it will make a bunch of money anyway

1

u/gt- Apr 28 '19

You're not wrong about that. At least Broly looked good and U36/Zamasu/ToP arcs had decent animation. For the first arcs they just phoned it in, I skipped those to watch the movie.

3

u/BhardwajAkash55 Apr 28 '19

"Big Sis Wendy"

Thats one way to end a ship lmao.

3

u/Diabrel Apr 28 '19

Why isnt gray eating the ice????????????? Why doesnt he sense a demon around??????????? Why doesnt he just eat eat the ice??????????????????

2

u/diegokpo30 Apr 29 '19

It's Fairy Tail, do not try to search for logic, most Spriggans are or will be defeated in stupid ways.

6

u/Remediesxx Apr 27 '19

Invel's ice magic is op. Freezing Natsu's flames and causing a blizzard. I wonder if Silver's ice immunity was inherited or not or Invel's ice is too op. Gray please eat those Ice Locks. Eat all his ice. Elfman's sand beast take over looks rad.

2

u/Tae106 Apr 27 '19

He doesn't eat them, actually he's never seen eating any ice to power up at all lol (I've read the entire manga) and invel's ice isn't really OP when natsu just breaks out of it with ease a couple seconds later.

2

u/dragonballzT Apr 28 '19

Just because he hasnt aten the ice doesnt mean he cant. Its common sense for a slayer to be able to eat their own element.

1

u/Tae106 Apr 30 '19

You can't say a character can do something they've never shown to be capable of doing. Obviously common sense doesn't apply to gray's dumbass, otherwise he would've eaten ice many times by now. Case and point, gray can't eat ice to power up like other slayers with their specific elements.

2

u/Ardiin Apr 28 '19 edited Apr 28 '19

Damn they didn't have Gray say: 'This douche again' when Ajeel reappeared. Also I didn't know Rogue joined a new guild seeing how he has a new guild mark, looks like an anchor.

Edit: Just saw the slideshow of the main cast running after beating GS, whyyyyyy.

2

u/kazureus Apr 28 '19 edited Apr 28 '19

My girl Mirajane fighting despite her clothes being mostly torn. She's always a great beautiful fighter.

Gotta admit sand beast looks pretty cool.

I also love the fact that we got some additional dialogues for the 4 Spriggan re-fights.

2

u/KaitoAJ Apr 29 '19

I have never complained about the animation for this series once ever... But I think the amount of still shots in this episode is really over the top.

2

u/RajSViper Apr 27 '19 edited Apr 27 '19

Finally my boy Gray is back in action! I have been waiting a long to see this so Im very hyped for sure. I wouldve liked the whole episode to be solely focused on Gray but i will take whatever I can get.

Best moment for me was definitely when Gray turned into a devil slayer to blitz past Invel. Most badass transformation right there. The only drawback is the animation of the episode felt very disappointing. I mean the anime staff have really sucked in this regard.

Next episode is going to be full of feels. Cant wait.

Gildartz is a champ btw

2

u/dragonballzT Apr 27 '19

Cant the animation get any more bad? I couldnt even enjoy the Gray and Gildartz battles that much due to it. Which sucks because they are my two fav chars but the animators decided to job them.

2

u/GastronXD Apr 28 '19

It seems like they are saving all of the budget for the next episode, that's the only defence I can come up with here.

God, my husbando Gray deserves a much better solo animated fight. Sigh. I hate A-1.

1

u/Carrot523 Apr 28 '19

Can someone give me an answer and i don't care for spoilers anymore, but like will Juvia actually die?

Also I'm an only anime watcher and people are complaining and the fight with Invel so far, but I think it's cool.

I'm also not hype for this battle with juvia, gray, and Invel. I personally don't like gruvia and I feel like this battle is going to turn into Gruvia moments.

Also huge hype for gildarts.

Hecka worried about Mavis, she's one of my favorite charaters.

I really hope we get to see Erza and Irene's interactions soon.

Irene has made a point I've been thinking about this entire season. Zeref is too niave and personally dont think he will be able to beat apologia with him alone.

Prediction: Brandish took Lucy, Natsu, and happy to a safe place

1

u/Tae106 Apr 28 '19

No she doesn't "die", It's another fake out death. Her and gray seemingly commit suicide, but it's revealed juvia saves gray at the last minute with some BS blood transfusion magic lol. Gray then gets a asspull rage power up and defeats invel easily somehow. Juvia is then healed by wendy, all of this is going to happen in next week's episode.

1

u/dragonballzT May 01 '19

The only bs here was that dumbass gajeel being saved by plot. lmao. asspull rage powerup? grays rage boost was logical. the only asspull powerups and rage boosts ate given to that loser gajeel

1

u/ConnorRoseSaiyan01 Apr 29 '19

Nah. In the manga she came back just one chapter afterwards so she'll most likely be back at the end of the episode or the start of the next

1

u/Viggy20k Apr 29 '19

I’d like to start of by saying I’d finished the manga and I’m reading the 100 YQ

But I just realised something right now, why didn’t Gray try eating the ice lock considering he is an ice demon slayer?

1

u/Kurosaki_taichou Apr 27 '19 edited Apr 27 '19

Thoughts:

  • A good recap for those who are just catching up to the anime.

  • Once again, Gildarts looks really buff, way more so than Laxus. His looks have really changed since the last time we saw him. And god dammit jsut show us one good fight with him. We saw like 3 scenes with him facing God Serena. Disappointing.

  • My one problem with this scene is that all the Spriggan were seriously nerfed. I get that half of them were revived through Neinhart, but if the likes of Elfman, Lisanna, and a severely exhausted Mira can take them, they seem really weak.

  • WTF is with the stills this episode. They spent whole minutes showing moving powerpoint slides of Team Natsu. The animation got thrown out the window. And they showed Romeo's legs like 4 times.

  • Irene's torture/extraction magic is trippy. It looked cool.

  • I thought Invel freezing Team Natsu would be like Silver's insta-freeze, not some slow fadeaway thing.

  • The translation team messed up. They called Gray a dragon slayer instead of devil slayer.

  • Brandish is a kidnapper.

  • Juvia is going to sacrifice herself to save Gray. How touching.

Final Thoughts:

Think about what Gray is thinking right now. It will play a major role in the outcome of this battle...

5

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

The translation team messed up. They called Gray a dragon slayer instead of devil slayer.

I pray the dub won't fall into that trap.

1

u/trulyanonymous- Apr 28 '19 edited Apr 28 '19

Everyone says Ajeel is weak because Elfman and Lisanna defeated him, but didn’t Elfman literally say Sand doesn’t work against his Sand beast? It’s a direct counter.

And to be fair, the Spriggans have to be nerfed for Fairytail to win. Brandish literally could’ve won the whole thing instead of getting comfortable in Lu-chan’s bathtub.

1

u/Tae106 Apr 28 '19

Lisanna should've been one shot easily and elfman's convenient sand beast form literally got exposed by ajeel's ant lion pit, until lisanna saved him. Their's no reason ajeel should've lost to two of the weaker members in fairy tail, he gets downgraded after that bullshit.

1

u/trulyanonymous- Apr 29 '19

He lost because his magic was ineffective against his counter.

literally got exposed by ajeel's ant lion pit,

This was the one thing he could’ve done against his counter, and what happened? Oh yeah, Elfman’s little sister flew him away.

1

u/SimJuan Apr 28 '19

Was this even an anime? Or did I just watch a voice acted manga for 20 minutes?

1

u/Ziehn Apr 28 '19

He froze my ice magic

Wut

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '19

why is fairy tail so bad now i mean they even fucked up gildarts fights

0

u/Tae106 Apr 27 '19

Animation was ass again (did it actually get worse lol), gildarts vs God serena was trash just like in the manga. Same case with gray vs invel, it was trash in the manga as well, but it actually might be even worse in the anime. Overall, pretty bad episode tbh.

3

u/dragonballzT Apr 28 '19

Gray vs Invel was much better than trash ass fights like Gajeel vs Bradman, Jellal vs Neinhart

0

u/PuntCussy Apr 28 '19

im pretty sure they just didnt give a fuck on this episode.
but im impressed on the preview for next weeks episodeeee.
gray vs invel,natsu vs gray
and that nalu scene ahhh im hypeed
i hope they will improve the animation on those important fights

0

u/JK-Network123 Apr 27 '19

Lmao are the animators just not caring about you know, ANIMATING the anime!? Like they put all they’re budget into shit like SAO and yet they barley try witty this I understand fairy tail isn’t well received but come on this is pitiful from what I’m hearing.
