Season Three Episode Discussion S03 E06 "The Ballad of Donkey Doug"

Airs tonight at 8:30 PM, ESCL. ¹ (About an hour from when this post is live.)

Going from the title, it looks like we’re headed back to one of the top ten swamp cities in northeastern Florida! I hope Pillboi’s finally able to buy his own Vicodin.

¹ ESCL = Eastern Standard Clock Land

Janet just turned Chidi into Michael. They're even playing the same music…

Holy motherforking shirtballs, what if the whole series has been a Janet simulation?

u/Vesafary Oct 26 '18

I could have sworn a couple of days ago there were more titles on Netflix and one was 'Reboot 416' or something. Unfortunately it's not there anymore and I'm not entirely sure. But maybe this season is indeed a simulation for Michael.

Yes, someone mentioned that to me a couple weeks ago. I think that may have been a working title? It’s not on IMDB either, or wiki (where I source the ep titles for the sidebar.)

In any case, that would be an amazing twist, wouldn’t it! Almost as good as the S1 reveal.

Eleanor/Simone! The ship no one saw coming!

u/Ignisiel Oct 26 '18

"No one saw coming." You weren't paying attention during the party episode then, cause at that point a lot of people did. :P

Donkey Doug being Jason's father is the biggest plot twist of the series.

So when Jason framed Donkey Doug’s girlfriend for boogie board theft… that was his stepmom, kinda?

And then his dad started a rival dance crew, #DougLife, challenged his own son to a dance-off, and Dance Dance Resolution came together to slash the tires of Jason’s dad’s car.

u/PhinsPhan89 Oct 26 '18

Well, he definitely wasn't the best dad in the world. Like, probably not even top 5.

That whole story in this new context (knowing that Donkey Doug is Jason's dad) makes it even funnier. Especially given the way Jason told the story and now knowing he was speaking about his dad.

Gotta go rewatch the entire series again with this information.

u/Bytewave Oct 26 '18

I mean, let's not kid ourselves. We all rewatch the series in between every season anyways!

u/JuanMataCFC Oct 29 '18

how about u and me go check out my jacuzzi and put stuff in each other?

never in my wildest dreams did i imagine a guy using this line on his forking daughter-in-law lmfao

I loved Jason’s Blue Steel look while he was waiting for his dad’s pickup line to work.

11

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '18

Jason didn't seem to mind

61

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '18

I think I need 802 reboots to finally have the capacity to process that info.

I feel like if I was even barely smart enough to write this show, that if I got a thought somewhere down the line, "Hmm, what if I make Donkey Doug Jason's father?" I would instantly say, "Oh that's crazy, no one would find that funny, I'm just a wierdo." I'm glad these writers have been daring with their twists and surprises. Its the best part of the show. Just when you think you know where things are going, you find out you have no clue.

Edit: Sorry for the grammar, I've had some shramps and wine.

u/speenatch Oct 26 '18

Mmm, gimme them shrampies

I'm still not entirely sure he's not

76

u/leoschot Oct 27 '18

He's not his brother, he's his BRO! But not like bro bro, like his my brother, but not like his brother

60

u/svick Oct 26 '18

Is there any evidence saying he isn't?

27

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '18

He is his brother, but he's not his brother

19

u/mujie123 Oct 26 '18

So was Pillboy Jason's brother too?

636

u/gclem16 Oct 26 '18

LMFAO Chidi proposing in a simulation where he is supposed to break up with her.

122

u/WandersFar Oct 26 '18

He got confused and pulled a Jason.

u/wordyfard Oct 26 '18

I think he was hoping there was an unspoken desire on her part to leave, like his past relationships, in which case proposing to her would cause her to accelerate those plans immediately and dump him, saving him the trouble of having to dump her.

108

u/mi-16evil Oct 26 '18

Which just makes it more brutal. Tough to know for sure if you proposed to someone you wanted to break up with they would say yes.

32

u/gclem16 Oct 26 '18

Ahh that makes sense I thought it was Chidi being Chidi you make more sense :/.

85

u/griffton Oct 26 '18

I think it might have been an attempt to freak her out so that she would break up with him.

5

u/gotstonoe Oct 30 '18

Classic schmosby

23

u/JMoneyG0208 Oct 26 '18

I thought her saying yes would change his mind

18

u/GoodJanet Oct 26 '18 edited Oct 26 '18

Bing What is a BoJack Horseman crossover Bing

1

u/MeepsNcheese Oct 27 '18

AHHH I was thinking the exact same thing. Gosh darnit, PB

9

u/JuanMataCFC Oct 26 '18

i thought she would say no and break up with him instead, and so that scenario would basically "work".

1

u/I_was_born_in_1994 Oct 27 '18

I know, he totally pulled a mr peanut butter

1

u/cloistered_around Oct 30 '18

And what's sadder is it seems like Simone could have said yes (if she'd actually been asked irl) ...yet she gets broken up with just hours/days later.

26

u/WandersFar Oct 26 '18

Janet’s string of oddly-specific fetishwear continues…

First Jason in Daisy Dukes, now Jason in a steam room in old timey strongman underwear.

26

u/flintlock0 Oct 26 '18

That last one was a glitch. She had no control over that.

182

u/galapagossquirrle Oct 26 '18

OMG DONKEY DOG IS HIS DAD

12

u/WandersFar Oct 26 '18

And Pillboi is his literal bro, bro!

17

u/paradox28jon Oct 26 '18

Was that said?

17

u/WandersFar Oct 26 '18

More implied. Donkey Doug is Jason’s father, Pillboi apparently lives with Donkey Doug and there is a strong family resemblance…

38

u/cats_and_vibrators Oct 26 '18

MY MINDISBLOWN

21

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '18

Oh Dip!

14

u/thatisgrody Oct 26 '18

Anyone else feel like the writers were just like:

What if we make Donkey Doug his actual dad?

0

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '18

36

u/UppiNolan Oct 26 '18

I know I haven't been the best father in the world, might not have even been in the top 5 - Donkey "Dad" Doug

8

u/JuanMataCFC Oct 26 '18

Doug "Donkey" Mendoza

14

u/SamScoopCooper Oct 26 '18

Wow. I wonder if we’ll see Chidi’s family now. Seems like it’s going to be a thing this season.

Do we know anything about his family?!?!!?!??

5

u/WandersFar Oct 26 '18

His grandmother makes fish with peanut butter.

3

u/SamScoopCooper Oct 26 '18

True. True. But what about his parents?

2

u/WandersFar Oct 26 '18

I don’t recall him ever mentioning them. Or any siblings, if he has any.

7

u/kalekala Oct 26 '18

We know he didn't go with his mom to her back surgery because he was helping the landlord's nephew figure out his phone. Whether it was a throwaway line or meaning we'll at least see his mom remains to be seen I guess.

3

u/SamScoopCooper Oct 26 '18

Shirt!! I’d forgotten about that line. Thanks

7

u/flintlock0 Oct 26 '18

It should be Ernie Hudson as his Dad.

Or Keith David.

5

u/AlecBaldwinner Oct 26 '18

Keith David is always amazing, so I hope that it's him!
