New Artist

[Report] I will now be in charge of drawing the spin-off of the sequel to Fairy Tail. It has been decided that Mashima-sensei himself will be in charge of the storyboard. The story is definitely good quality. I will do my best to get even closer to Mr. Mashima, too, so I appreciate your cooperation! (Source)

Mashima's Role

“I will work on the sequel spin-off by drawing its storyboard and plotting its story, but the person who will ink it is very skillful and talented. Their art style is similar to FT, so they will make the FT world even more beautiful and cool.” (Hiro Mashima Twitter)

Continuation

The new series is said to tell a future story that connects to the original manga’s final chapter. The publisher is keeping the manga’s staff to itself for now, but Kodansha Comics says those details will be shared at a later date. (Source)

I'm excited for all of this, but what I'm most looking forward to is definitely the sequel.

Yep there is so much to still be explored in the fairy tail world and it seems like mashima had to stop for some reason, it's a shame the ending was so rushed because of that but I'm happy to see where the plot continues

he wanted to focus on the new series, the ending didn't feel rushed to me but the story line of acnologia did fall flat because i didn't care for the dragon.

So Anime returns in the fall?

Is this new series going to be like Boruto where they have a kid together with Natsu being like Naruto where we still see him take part in the action. Please don't let there be father issues, I don't need to see Natsu being an awful dad whike his son wants his approval in skills.

Read the descriptions I placed above as they are all sourced. The sequel manga takes place after chapter 544. The anime continues off of series 2 anime.

Sweet. I just found FairyTail and I'm about 10 episodes into the anime. I hear that the series doesn't complete the manga, though, so where at in the manga do I need to pick the story back up?

I'm super excited about this. I honestly only discovered Fairy Tail about a month-and-a-half ago and have been pouring through the anime episodes. I've only got about 40 or so left and I've read enough about the rest of it to know how things leave off in the Manga. I actually originally started out as a petty big NatZa fan, if you can believe it lol, but I caught the NaLu bug like most and I am totally absorbed by that ship now. Seeing how slowly paced and well-developed that their relationship has grown over the course of the series, I have to admit that I'm pretty bummed out by the way Fairy Tail proper ended in the manga. I don't hate it, but I can't really say it was very satisfying when I saw the last issue. It's like he was deliberately trying to do everything but give them their moment.

So if this is an entirely new spin-off series, which means it's likely to have a pretty sizeable chunk of issues, and then episodes if it gets turned into an anime, and it's confirmed to take place after Fairy Tail proper and involve Natsu in some way, I think it's pretty safe to assume that we're going to be seeing a lot more of Natsu and Lucy. The rest of the characters and the stories themselves are all entertaining of course, but Natsu and Lucy have pretty quickly become the draw for the entire franchise to me. I like everyone in the show, but I'm watch it for their moments and relationship. I'm honestly hoping that with this being a new series entirely, maybe it will give them a chance to make that be one of the primary focal points of the show, not just an aspect of the show. I know that's a bit of a diversion from his usual style of storytelling, but I would personally get a pretty big kick out of it being a slightly more mature and serious show/manga where interpersonal relationships are more of a main course and not a side dish if you will.

Also, Gildarts is freaking awesome. I liked him immediately when he was introduced in the anime. I can't say that about a lot of other characters including even Natsu or Lucy. I was on the fence and waiting for something for pretty much everyone else. But about 5 seconds after Gildarts showed up, I knew I liked him, even before seeing how powerful he was. So if he's going to have a more prominent role in the spin-off, especially if it can show a little more pseudo-father/son stuff between him and Natsu, that will be extra special.

Also, Natsu and Lucy as cops? I'm assuming that's one of those joke/spoof drawings just for fun, right?

I actually originally started out as a petty big NatZa fan, if you can believe it lol

Don't worry, it isn't shocking at all. At the very beginning Natza was looking pretty plausible, as well as GrayLu, but it went nowhere pretty soon.

Natsu and Lucy have pretty quickly become the draw for the entire franchise to me. I like everyone in the show, but I'm watch it for their moments and relationship.

The way the ships and characters are developed is also one of my favorite parts of the manga.

When does the next season of fairy tail come out

2

u/heyotakushrink Jul 11 '18

A side bar for this week’s Edens Zero states that the sequel is creatively being named: “Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest”.

u/twx_95 Jun 28 '18

I knew it! The picture Mashima recently drew is symbolising FT news releasing at around the same time as Edens Zero.

So im definitely watching the sequel. But going to ignore the city spinoff and the happy spinoff simce they dont seem to be actual canon to the series.
