The assertion that "of all time" means "until the present day" gets one user's GOAT in /r/nba

All time includes the future, past, and present. So, if you're going to say, for example, "MJ is the greatest of all time," you're the one claiming to know the future. Either that or you're changing the definition of "all time." What we really mean to say is "Greatest we've ever seen."

Of all the things you could get irritated at. It almost makes me look sane!

If I'm being honest I have had that thought when I hear GOAT. It's impossible to know, but I never cared enough to argue it.

I will never understand why some people get so ridiculously pedantic about stuff like that. And then decide to die on that hill.

if you're going to waste your time trying to reject my claim, can you at least do so without making ridiculous jumps in logic? Downvote me all you guys want!

This has to be a troll

"I know it's figurative!" Says man whose argument relies on an incredibly literal reading of the phrase.
