It was nice seeing Shino without his toaster-goggles with Kurenai. Heck, it was nice to see Kurenai again too.

Hopefully we get more Kiba, him and Tenten have been sorely lacking in presence so far in Boruto.

Hopefully we get more Kiba, him and Tenten have been sorely lacking in presence so far in Boruto.

Friendly reminder that Sakura hasn't made a single appearance yet.

21

u/CelioHogane May 03 '17

Well neither did most of the old characters.

32

u/siki997 May 03 '17

Was just pointing out that someone major like Sakura hasn't shown up at all, so one can't say that Tenten etc have been underused.

76

u/irishsaltytuna May 03 '17

Tenten has been underused

2

u/Abcdjdj123 May 03 '17

Full Gaiden for sakura

3

u/CelioHogane May 03 '17

Sakura was a major character!?

66

u/Abcdjdj123 May 03 '17 edited May 03 '17

Sakura <3 they'll have a whole Gaiden arc on her sooo.....

SAKURA is definitely the hottest female left...

123

u/CelioHogane May 03 '17

Uhm, Hinata?

2

u/hircine16 May 04 '17

But Hinata got the mom look going. She still hot asf, but not showing your midrift hot

-6

u/Abcdjdj123 May 03 '17

Nope. Have you seen ikemotos hinata? Abomination. And adult sakura looks better than hinata imo..

Actaully sakura always looked better than hinata for me :P

16

u/NoraDrake69 May 03 '17

Eh both are pretty in their own way. Sakuras energetic and Hinatas calm demeanor.

3

u/Abcdjdj123 May 03 '17

Finally a sensible comment congrats

2

u/-gazeR May 04 '17

is this like, confirmed? gaiden getting animated inside boruto anime i mean.

2

u/Abcdjdj123 May 04 '17

No but still it's too. Full of content to pass up..

1

u/Prologue11126 May 03 '17

and that is really nice

28

u/shadedclan May 03 '17

She looks so old now. I would've thought she would still look more youthful than that even though she's around 40.

5

u/rosechiffon May 03 '17

i imagine having lived through the shit she's lived through has aged her a bit

3

u/Gantzwastaken May 03 '17

I think it's kinda weird, I mean 40 year olds irl are hotter than Kurenai and Iruka.

13

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

i was really hoping to see a mirai cameo where she just drops by to say hello to shino, but yeah it was still nice to see kurenai

2

u/Yosonimbored May 03 '17

I agree with you on your last part, but it is a story of Boruto. I'm all for cameos, but I doubt they will be much and long.

2

u/[deleted] May 04 '17

Every old character is lacking in presence. I think it's because it's a new gen

2

u/r2002 May 04 '17

Could Kurenai see the shadow thing I wonder?

Great episode and great animation. Mitsuki is no longer a spoiler LOOL.

62

u/irishsaltytuna May 03 '17

True, but some of his personal details are still a spoiler until they animate it.

2

u/r2002 May 04 '17

I watched the movie so I know a little bit about him but really not much is revealed even in the movie.

5

u/Trunks0101 May 04 '17

Hiss parentage is still a secret but Boruto movie spoiler

1

u/r2002 May 04 '17

Very true. I mean just look at him lol. =)

1

u/irishsaltytuna May 03 '17

Reminder to keep details revealed about Mitsuki in the movie and one-shot manga special spoiler tagged.

5

u/Markual May 03 '17

Okay I can get the manga but the movie...? I can't believe anyone watching the show hasn't seen the movie.

15

u/irishsaltytuna May 03 '17

Believe it or not, many haven't. I've seen plenty while moderatin' round these parts

4

u/[deleted] May 04 '17

The show takes place before the movie, so if you didn't watch the movie when it came out you can watch the show without knowing what's coming next.

2

u/Markual May 04 '17 edited May 04 '17

I understand that but it's like... if you're watching this series, chances are you were already a fan from the original anime and saw the Boruto movie. That movie came out before we even knew this series was gonna happen so I doubt people were holding off on seeing the film because they thought we'd get prequel content like this show. I understand the accomodation the mods are providing but it just seems unnecessary because it's crazy to think people have been watching this series and havent seen the previous movie.

EDIT: This is without even mentioning that like....there's nothing really even to spoil from the movie. Now the manga is another story but the film never went in depth about Mitsuki we just get minor hints of some stuff.

4

u/[deleted] May 04 '17

A lot of people such as myself just didn't give enough of a shit to watch the movie when it came out, though I did watch it a few weeks ago. It's less of a commitment to watch a series than it is a movie because it's broken down into 22 minute chunks.

u/_X_HunteR_X_ May 03 '17

shino had red eyes... behind that mask all the time!

Mangekyou sharingan!?

193

u/Abcdjdj123 May 03 '17

I said the same thing... Hisis eyes are bleeding also.. 5 kage arc shino incoming

87

u/awesomecutepandas May 03 '17

No he's obviously joining the X-Men.

3

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

it'd make for a pretty dope mangekyo ability tbh

105

u/Steely_D May 03 '17

getting merked by Sasuke's megazord would be better than dealing with Shino's shit

imagine you have to explain how you went out to everybody else in the afterlife

"yeah this dude made a bunch of bees fly up my ass until I died"

fuck bugs man

3

u/NoCopyrightRadio May 05 '17

I love your comment more than doritos.

u/LYRAA3 May 05 '17

11

u/jhon9728 May 03 '17

Definitely a Cylon

4

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

I doubt Shino's eyes are actually red. This may simply be that mythological creature is possessing Shino.

5

u/_X_HunteR_X_ May 03 '17

sometimes it's just symbolism.

3

u/DibsArchaeo May 04 '17

He probably has some weird bug eyes. Have any members of the Aburame Clan ever shown their eyes? They seem to always have darkened glasses or similar to cover their eyes.

3

u/talknojutsu312 May 03 '17

Shino the next Tobi confirmed

1

u/Houeclipse May 03 '17

He turns into Godot from Ace Attorney series

1

u/Meepmeeperson May 04 '17

Kuranai and some other characters have red eyes. It's just a thing, not necessarily an eye jutsu.

1

u/darexinfinity May 06 '17

Sasuke's controlling him!

1

u/Dishonoreduser Sep 05 '17

Shino's eyes are dark brown.

u/noakai May 03 '17

Man I feel bad for Shino, no matter how hard he tries he's just not doing great with this whole teaching thing.

Mitsuki is just creepy enough that I'm very interested in him. I like that he can see the shadow whatever like Boruto can.

121

u/Hjordt May 03 '17

The episode didn't really show us that Mitsuki can see the shadow.

But apparently he had a theory about Borutos eyes, which was confirmed as Boruto said it was the same as with Metal.

108

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

If he can't see it, he can definitely sense it.

56

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

Kinda like how Sasuke could see Limbo through his Rinnegan where Naruto could sense it through Six Paths Sage Mode

3

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

Yeah, something like that.

3

u/Hjordt May 03 '17

I agree. Maybe he even created it. Somethings up. that's for sure!

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

I doubt he created it, given that the source of the Chakra is clearly the Nue beast.

1

u/iDannyEL May 03 '17

Can't put my finger on where I heard this exact line.

0

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

9

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

I don't think it implied he's causing the shadows at all. In fact it's confirmed it's coming from the Nue beast that Boruto accidentally summoned in Episode 4.

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

1

u/Hjordt May 03 '17

I think he's involved with the shadow too.

But being able to create this shadow (which might just be an aura) doesn't mean Mitsuki can see it himself is he is creating it.

5

u/r2002 May 04 '17

I don't understand why Shino is depicted as so incompetent and self-doubting. He was a confident and brilliant student. It feels like a forced transition.

Love Mitsuki though. He seems like some kind of pet grown in a lab designed to please Boruto. Although I wonder if someone wanted to do that (Orochimaru?) why not make this pet a hot chick. :p

2

u/darexinfinity May 06 '17

It's interesting that he speaks parceltongue.

1

u/SasukeOumar7-BORUTO May 03 '17

It was really weird when he didnt want to let iwabe go, even after Shino steped in.

124

u/xamza1608 May 03 '17 edited May 03 '17

Boruto is approximately 12 7 years old. We can guess that Mitsuki is also 12 7 then. I am 17 years old. We have worked with motion equations in my class. Boruto and Mitsuki also did. I did not have to calculate the windresistance into my equations. They did. 12 7-year-olds are clever than me....

67

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

Actually they are closer to 7 in this. Or at least they were in episode 2. They are between 7-12 in the academy, and there's no way to tell for sure the time span between episodes, but it definitely seems like just weeks. So they should still be 7-8

34

u/eonica May 03 '17

Actually they should be closer to 10-11

20

u/PiFlavoredPie May 03 '17

Considering how many of Naruto's personality Boruto inherited, it's pretty surprising that he's actually one of the smartest kids in the class. Must be the Hyuuga in him + Hinata's spartan training clearly.

3

u/Abcdjdj123 May 03 '17

Naruto was always a genius.. But one taught him anything at all and everyone including his teachers treated him like shit.

He was minatos son..

16

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

It's also fiction so there's that.

3

u/penguinsreddittoo May 03 '17

I know, I never had to consider wind resistance and this kids are already doing motion equations. I guess they're useful for kunai throwing.

2

u/NoCopyrightRadio May 05 '17

I came for Mitsuki greeting party, and ended up on a deep Shino arc. Holy hell, this series is unpredictable.

..I hope this isn't a death flag. Shino is too precious for that.

They haven't had to kill any of the victims yet, so I doubt Shino will die.

15

u/RasenRendan May 03 '17

Nah Shino will be fine. Hes just controlled and will be liberated.

It really seems that after this incident (plus Mitsuki is finally here) we will get more clues about WTF is going on with this purple chakra thing and maybe the Academy arc will end soon so we can get to Gaiden, Mitsuki Origin and the Chunin Exams/Movie arc)

1

u/kr4ckers May 08 '17

I honestly pray to god they skip the movie arc and just go straight into whats happening afterwards. Unless they change major events in that arc but otherwise I dont want to have to pretty much re-watch the movie.

2

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

Shino is present in Spoilers, so he's fine.

2

u/thenotoriousNIX May 05 '17

I'm nervous for the kids. Shino is by far the most powerful to be possessed. The kids will definitley need help to take him.

1

u/darexinfinity May 06 '17

Lol 3 Academy Students beating a Jonin, Shino's skills would have to be lacking.

93

u/AGondi May 03 '17

Mitsuki mentioned the thing about Boruto being his sun. I wonder if this confirms that we'll get his one shot animated?

55

u/noakai May 03 '17

I bet they will, both the Mitsuki one-shot and the Gaiden are too good for them to pass up. They might be saving them for when the early introduction stuff is over and they decide to focus more on Mitsuki and Sarada as actual characters - almost like little mini-arcs or something.

55

u/StefyB May 03 '17

Plus, Gaiden is a little too important not to do considering Spoilers They can't not do it unless they just decide to completely rewrite how that stuff happens. Besides, I'm sure they want as much padding as possible to let the manga get as far as possible, though I do feel like the anime will eventually catch up to and go past the manga like Dragon Ball Super did.

15

u/Abcdjdj123 May 03 '17

Sarada thing needs to be animated.... It can have good action sequences as well...... Perfect susanoo.. Kuruma mode

1

u/AGondi May 03 '17 edited May 03 '17

Yeah, I really liked them. I wonder where the Gaiden will be placed, like as a flashback or part of the story since it took place while they were still in the academy and back when the episode titles were released, everyone thought the next episode was going to be the last of the academy arc which cant be the case since it ties with this episode right?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/xBPxZangetsu May 03 '17 edited May 03 '17

We will have to get it for back story purposes, probably down the line it'll be how the explain his ... when he activates it in the presence of his team like flash back explanation

1

u/senku990 May 03 '17

One-shot? Reference please, somebody?

2

u/AGondi May 03 '17

Following in the family tradition

6

u/fear229 May 04 '17

well the uchiha, akamichi, aburame and hyuuga clans are the 4 noble clans of the village. So its not surprising that chocho and sarada are somewhat spoken to with respect.

i just noticed that boruto did a falcon drop, just like sasuke. the parallel game still on point

30

u/awesomecutepandas May 03 '17

Bro that's a piledriver.

26

u/TotallyGeekage May 03 '17

Yeah, but it is called a Peregrine Falcon Drop in Naruto.

2

u/darexinfinity May 06 '17

I saw that too, however Boruto was bending the guy's back. If they fell then the guy would of have his spine crushed.

1

u/RasenRendan May 03 '17

i noticed it as well. Really nice catch there.

1

u/TheGluttonousFool May 03 '17

I feel like if Sasuke tried that on Naruto, he'll lose the same way Kiba lost to Naruto.

2

u/NoraDrake69 May 04 '17

He did tried that on Naruto on VOTE1 fight.

11

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

8

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

i agree. i think that's very likely, since we already see his older self with a sword. but he could also have a mix between naruto and sasuke; combine sasuke's taijutsu with some shadow clones and that can be legit, dare i say op

171

u/Steely_D May 03 '17

Bob the Builder said fuck this shit y'all fix it

242

u/Abcdjdj123 May 03 '17

Can we agree how ridiculously op the new generation is?? I mean narutos generation in the academy was not able to do anything much while iwabe makes mud walls and mitsuki uses huge wind style attacks

Mitsuki got some danzo techniques?? Its also told that he knows lightning

97

u/PiFlavoredPie May 03 '17

More importantly, all our Naruto characters ended up getting pregnant and having kids at the same time! :O

62

u/Abcdjdj123 May 03 '17

It's common.. sense many of your age people will tend to get married and have kids in the similar age group...abd after war baby boom and this is shinobi world

31

u/PiFlavoredPie May 03 '17

Well, considering the characters all got married at different times, it's pretty coincidental that they would all have kids within the same year for them to all enroll in the Academy together. Obviously, this was done for plot purposes, but it's funny to think about head-canon reasons why it ended up this way.

7

u/syotokal May 03 '17

They're all baby boomers after the fourth war. Not unlike the post world war 2 baby boomers

1

u/Master_Dillon May 03 '17

Omg thank you, i thought i was the only one thinking of this 😂😂

1

u/darexinfinity May 06 '17

Well you gotta have Team 7 and Shika-Ino-Chou combitation

Also Shino has no kids

47

u/CelioHogane May 03 '17

I mean narutos generation in the academy was not able to do anything much

Sasuke was able to do a shit ton of similar stuff.

Shikadai and Shikamaru seem at a similar level of power.

the only real diference is in Boruto, wich thanks to not being a parria like his father is pretty good.

→ More replies (9)

15

u/Frazier008 May 03 '17

You got to think though that narutos class was the best. It is their kids mostly. Of course these kids have been training their whole lives most likely. The village has been at peace so that means that their parents were mostly home. In narutos generation all the parents were mostly gone on missions and out fighting so not a lot of time for training their kids. Look at the kids that did train all the time. Sasuke, lee, and neji could have held their own against any of the new generation.

7

u/Trunks0101 May 04 '17

Both Sasuke and Neji were considered geniuses though and Lee like ONLY trained. So while I see the comparison you're making, I don't know if it's something I would personally agree with.

→ More replies (1)

11

u/DIMOHA25 May 03 '17

Sasuke was doing fireballs in or before the academy. Also, Iwabe and Mitsuki are not the same as other kids.

6

u/Verm1ll1on May 03 '17

Are you kidding? Naruto could make like 1000 clones, could perform summoning jutsus and control Kurama's chakra to some extent by the time of the Chunnin Shiken. He also learnt the Rasengan in like 2 weeks.

Sasuke had powerful Katon jutsus, level 2 Sharingan and developed the Chidori in 1 or 2 months so he could fight Gaara. No only that, he also developed Lee's speed in that time.

Neji was like a year older and considered OP by everyone. Same goes for Lee.

Not to mention Gaara, with his absolute defense and overpowered sand jutsus.

Shino was underrated, but we all know just how dangerous those insects are.

Also Kakashi was jounin by their age and Itachi and Shisui could take the ANBU on single combat.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

We really didn't get more than a glimpse of what the Academy students in Naruto's generation were capable of. We were only exposed to the Academy stuff via flashbacks, and it was mostly Sasuke kicking Naruto's face in and girls fawning over him. For all we know Naruto's generation were trained by their parents at home just as Inojin and Shikadai said they were trained at home too.

In any case, most of the new generation seems to be relatively normal. Iwabe is a much older student who has learned some relatively basic Doton techniques. The only exception is that Mitsuki is... We'll just leave that to spoiler territory for now.

Mitsuki didn't use any of Danzo's techniques here. He used a weaker version of the Futon technique Orochimaru used during the Chunin Exxams.

I swear.... Everyone hates their dad wtf....... No one in the older generation hated their dad..

92

u/IISuperSlothII May 03 '17

Tbf it makes sense, there is a generational difference in a way that has never been part of the Naruto universe.

This is the first generation in which their parents lives were completely different from theirs since the villages were first formed. That means the kids and parents are brought up with different mentalities which creates a dissonance in worldview and in their relationship.

Most of the important dads of the older generations were... dead.

→ More replies (13)

2

u/TheGluttonousFool May 03 '17

I wouldn't say that, what about:

*Itachi and Fugaku (that was more of a difference of philosophy though)

*Gaara and Rasa (this is more fear and hate - for good reason)

*Kakashi and his dad [the White Fang of Konoha] (although this was more shame)

*Hinata and Hiashi (more depression from parental disappointment - it took until before Naruto leaving for their relationship to start to recover)

*This is more speculation, but I imagine Hizashi may not have liked his father due to being branded

Kinda the same: spent sometime not liking/hating their father but like Boruto eventually get along with them (except the first example, I guess)

What on earth have they done with cool as a cucumber Shino?

71

u/MUKworld May 03 '17

8

u/RasenRendan May 03 '17

How right you are...

i really feel bad for him lol

5

u/MUKworld May 04 '17

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) and above all that.... Shino sensei is still single..... EVEN KIBA GOT A GIRL

2

u/darexinfinity May 06 '17

I feel more for Akamaru, imagine all the fleas he had because of Shino

1

u/MUKworld May 06 '17

heheheheh.....it would just take one FANG OVER FANG tho

13

u/TheGluttonousFool May 03 '17

He has been shown being irritated before:

*When Naruto came back from traveling with Jiraiya and couldn't automatically tell who he was (can't blame him, you couldn't really see his face in his new outfit and his voice probably changed due to puberty)

*I think there were scenes in the games where team Kurenai finished an enemy together and he is annoyed because Kiba and Hinata are talking over/ignoring him

*In an OVA didn't he drag off Naruto from the bathroom (when Naruto really had to go - to the point he pissed himself at the end) because he was annoyed Naruto was trying to rush him?

5

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

Supervising a bunch of hyperactive 6-12 year olds, especially ones that embarrass you on end, can make anybody lose their cool.

2

u/5tormwolf92 May 03 '17

Ever since he wasn't invited to the recovery mission his been negative.

58

u/CelioHogane May 03 '17

Shino makes me really sad :(

He was always the nicest of the kids, seeing him that depresed is unfair.

19

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

He's funny tho. I think he'll be way more popular in this series.

4

u/TheGluttonousFool May 03 '17

That he is. I wonder though if it is a coincidence that this episode came out after the comic showing why he wears his mask, because damn...these kids have some sorta opposite of talk no jutsu going on.

3

u/r2002 May 04 '17

That guy could literally destroy a whole city with his jutsu. And yet he's stuck babysitting these ungrateful jerks.

1

u/darexinfinity May 06 '17

He's only giving himself a bad time. I mean who the fuck booby traps an entire school?

54

u/iambriankendricks May 03 '17

I kinda feel bad for Shino but at least all the things he's going through looks to have a payoff storyline wise. Good to see Iruka again, too.

Also, I was kinda annoyed that Orochimaru, who has done all this dastardly shit, killing the 3rd, the 4th Kazekage, experimenting on and killing all those kids, imprisoning people, etc., basically has a slap on the wrist, or as Shino put it, "it's all in the past." But Sasuke was in jail for a whole year for his "crimes", and his wrap sheet isn't nearly as long as his. I know it's a kids show and we know that Orochimaru basically gets off scott free from Sasuke Shinden and Giaden but come on. That just annoyed me for some reason.

50

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

Well Orochimaru is technically on something like house arrest with Yamato watching him.

31

u/iambriankendricks May 03 '17

True, but he's basically free to go and do whatever he wants. He just has a permanent ankle monitor named Yamato watching him. The thing is though, and I know it was for comedy, he was in Konoha giving Naruto congratulations to his wedding. Just roaming around freely. Just the inconsistency with his character is what bugs me more than anything I think.

12

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

Playing devils advocate here, Orochimaru did say that he no longer has any evil intentions, and that he just wants to see how Sasuke will grow and what path he will take.

2

u/Rosebunse May 03 '17

It's easier to keep an eye on him than to really do anything about him.

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '17

16

u/Abcdjdj123 May 03 '17

They can't so anything to him.... Even if they kill him he'll revive himself using creepy shit... And he can easily escape out of any dimension / prison by his cursed marks on God knows how many people

11

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

Well I would say that. They probably could kill him. And I don't think he was any way to escape from another dimension. I think the reason they are letting him stay alive is because it's what Jiraiya would have wanted. There are strong parallels between Jiraiya/Orochimaru and Naruto/Sasuke. Knowing that Sasuke was able to turn over a new leaf, I'm sure Naruto wanted to do the same with Orochimaru for Jiraiya's sake. Also, Orochimaru told Sasuke that he had no interest in destroying the leaf or doing anything bad, he just wants to observe Sasuke now and see how he grows.

1

u/gokuzzz May 03 '17 edited May 03 '17

They can't so anything to him.... Even if they kill him he'll revive himself using creepy shit... And he can easily escape out of any dimension / prison by his cursed marks

Sasuke can trap him into a chibaku tensei for a while.

It held all the tailed beasts, I'm sure it would hold Orochimaru.

1

u/LYRAA3 May 03 '17

Hes like a cockroach

1

u/iambriankendricks May 03 '17

11

u/TheKolyFrog May 03 '17 edited May 03 '17

I feel the same way regarding Kabuto, the guy pretty much caused most of the casualties in Fourth Shinobi War.

8

u/iambriankendricks May 03 '17

Yep. Let's just put him in charge of s bunch of kids. He's fine after Itachi has him living in an infinite loop lol

→ More replies (2)

18

u/sadnessjoy May 03 '17

Well, Kabuto and Obito essentially killed tens of thousands of shinobi and probably innocent people as well. Naruto called Obito the coolest guy or something like that. And Kabuto is now in charge of some orphanage in Konoha or something.

Point is, better think of it in terms of shonen logic (the whole bad guy turned good guy trope).

15

u/Abcdjdj123 May 03 '17

Hashirama, tobirama minato hiruzen etc have killed thousands and thousands of soldiers in the wars...

6

u/PiFlavoredPie May 03 '17

Presumably the only people who could do anything about Orochimaru are probably Naruto and Sasuke anyway, and neither of them seem to mind/believe Orochimaru's explanation to the point where just keeping an eye on him is good enough.

4

u/r2002 May 04 '17

who has done all this dastardly shit, killing the 3rd, the 4th Kazekage, experimenting on and killing all those kids, imprisoning people, etc

Man, when those things take place over a huge span of episodes with all those fillers in the middle you kinda forget what an asshole he was.

2

u/Rosebunse May 03 '17

I feel like locking Orochimaru up would just be asking for problems. Spying on him and letting him and the Three Stooges do their own thing is probably best for everyone.

2

u/sir_horsington May 03 '17

Orochimaru saved all 5 kage during the 4 th war thats why.

2

u/Bernie-Mac May 04 '17

I kinda think that is the whole point of Naruto's character. He changed the way shinobi by forgiving and trying to make his enemies allies, most of which he did. He beat pain by not giving into his hatred and finding finding the common link between the two of them. Orochimaru did also reanimate the 4 hokage on the good guys side during the war.

Pretty solid episode, we may have about 2-3 more academy episodes then We will transition to them being genin and I think the show will take a few more steps towards a more mature story line with a new arc. Then we should get the Sarada story before the actual movie arc because that has to happen before the chunin exams. To be honest we should get the mitsuki story line as well before the chunin exams because story progression during that time wouldn't make sense without. Maybe I don't know

poor shino, tho. but still, i'm really glad he has a role in this generation

21

u/Assnfiks May 03 '17

In the preview Shino had red glowing & bleeding eye. Is that a freaking sharingan!?

10

u/TheGluttonousFool May 03 '17

It could be a more disturbing thing: the glowing eye is because of his possession but the blood...I have a theory that the Aburame clan all wear black sunglasses because bugs come out of their eyes. So maybe in his purple chakra-induced rage, he went a bit far in getting them to come out? we already saw him losing control of the bugs during the welcome party (in the background I think they were holding a student up from the ground).

u/penguinsreddittoo May 03 '17

Good episode to introduce Mitsuki, although the foreshadowing was a bit over the top with his origins.

Man, I get the builder, I wouldn't handle Boruto's class' shenanigans if I was him. Stop trying to destroy the school.

So the title of the next episode isn't because it's actually the last lesson, I guess, so who knows now how far the academy arc will go.

7

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

I'd except 20-25 episodes in the arc. That seems to be the average for Naruto arcs, and that leaves room for part of that arc to be 10 episodes adapted from Gaiden. Then we get graduation day, 3 man team assignments, and a ~20 episode Genin arc before the movie. That would fill out about a year before the movie content starts, putting the anime 2 years behind the manga, which should be enough time to help the manga stay ahead for a while.

Animation was great!

Glad Sarada got some screen time this episode but pretty dissapointed she won't fight Shino with Boruto and Mitsuki in the next episode.

18

u/Abcdjdj123 May 03 '17

Sarada has some really fluid fighting style

20

u/Z4K187 May 03 '17

Poor Shino. He's gotten more screentime in the sequel than he ever did in shippuden but at the cost of being treated as a joke by every character. Totally saw it coming when he got possessed by that shadow but I think it can be used as an opportunity to develop his character. I'm also starting to warm up to the new characters like Iwabe. He really fits with the rest of the boys so I hope he doesn't get written off of the story.

Sucks it was an outsourced episode again but overall it was still enjoyable.

Nawww I just felt so bad for Shino the entire time - the episode turned out more depressing than I'd expected. Nevertheless it was a great episode - really liked how Mitsuki was introduced! I think the way they'd introduced him would keep a lot of people who don't know his true identity in suspense! I know I must have said this plenty of times on this sub but Boruto as a character has really grown on me! I really liked how he was humble in defeat and acknowledged Iwabe's strength after their duel. A lot of kids his age would have acted like a sore loser. I'm also starting to find Sumire's antics really amusing to watch! Can't wait for the next episode!

Has anyone noticed how the evil aura thing is affecting the academy? Like it's trying to stop shinobi training ("The age of shinobi is over.") I could be completely wrong though.

Also, 'borutogan' seems to be able to sense extreme negative emotions, kinda like KCM Naruto.

5

u/Marczzz May 04 '17

It doesn't seem like he senses "negative emotions", there seems to be a spirit (or whatever that is) that only possesses the ones that already have negative emotions and that is what borutogan sees.

It really bothers me that there were so many people possessed and no one knows or does shit about it, like metal lee was possessed himself and he didn't seem to tell anybody or do anything about it

4

u/Dionysus24779 May 03 '17

Pretty good episode overall, definitely a step up from last week.

Mitsuki was fine as he was, I could be annoyed how he is good at academics and also good at fighting, but given his connection to Orochimaru and special background it's pretty justified that he's a cut above his peers.

Interesting though that we hear of Otogakure again like it's a real place, when so far, Oto has never been more than a bunch of disconnected hideouts and laboratories for Orochimaru with no real civilian population or really anyone who isn't directly working for Orochimaru... who knows maybe Boruto will change that and we will see like an actual village with an actual infrastructure and with Orochimaru ruling as Otokage.

It was also nice to get a small glimpse of one of Boruto's more pronounced traits, at least in the movie, when he solved Shino's problem with a shortcut instead of doing it "the proper way".

Though more so than a Mitsuki episode this was a Shino episode and it made me realize that yeah... this spin-off continuation is a great way to give some attention to characters who kind of got the short stick back then. Shino was fairly popular but after the timeskip he never really did all that much, now he's the teacher and can get a ton of characterisation... though this isn't the quiet introverted Shino we once knew, this is a new kind of dorky Shino who has some self-esteem issues about being a teacher... still I like it, it's more interesting than just having him be some strict no-nonsense guy.

Also Iruka being the principal was a nice nod... oh and we saw Kurenai again who I honestly wouldn't have recognized if it wasn't for her very particular eyes.

My only two small nitpicks with the episode is that so far outside of Deku all people possessed by the black chakra chimera have been no real threat to anyone... though looking at the end and preview it seems we finally get a real obstacle.

The other is how during the construction guy's rampage nobody else seemed to notice it... like where were the other teachers? I'm not even asking for like random Ninja patrols to show up since it was established that Ninja have become a minority... but still.

Oh well, good episode overall.

Not a big post-er but...just want to acknowledge the art with this episode. Was on the fence about this series anime but this episode hooked me with how well it was done and now all of this series potential. Wow. "Just when I think I'm out..." type of shit all the way

4

u/Chapea12 May 04 '17

Shame that Inojin has already been marginalized

4

u/Porkflavored May 04 '17

Did anybody else notice that the shadow shown behind Shino when he gets possessed by the dark aura looks like a Lion's face? Seems to be suggesting that this chimera we saw summoned last episode might have something to do with the aura, which would make sense seeing as most people agree that that summoning wasn't Boruto's doing. We never saw him sign a contract and there was likely no way he could've summoned something that strong. Is it possible it summoned itself? And what would that mean as to the aura? Is it summoning its chakra from some other dimension or something to possess people? Also before this episode I was thinking the possession was limited only to children.. what would happen if this thing found Naruto? It's pretty obvious he either doesn't know of Naruto yet or is just trying to gauge the strength of certain characters by using others to challenge them. Good episode and I really liked Mitsuki and how Shino was portrayed in this episode, but they should move on now to some missions or story telling or something new.

What I really want would be the academy finals to be "get to a specific place outside of Konoha in under 48 hours" or something with the students being splitted into three or four member groups.

5

u/[deleted] May 03 '17

Well they can't move on to missions until they graduate. And this is all new content so idk what you mean by that. The longer the Academy arc is, the more time the manga has to get ahead, and the more development we can get for all the characters, so it's nothing but a good thing.
