Writers Spotlight
the_divine_broochs is this week's spotlight writer. You can ask them a question by using the "/u/the_divine_broochs" in your comment.
How is a spotlight chosen? If you find a writer who hasn’t been in the limelight yet, has multiple decent entries (at least 6 or more) over the past few months, and you think deserves a spotlight, send us a modmail with your recommendation! We’ll add them to the list and with luck, they’ll make it up here. we're currently revisiting the division between spotlights and the HoF, so expect the unexpected over the next few months. - Nate

Congrats u/the_divine_broochs :)
Do you plan on writing something longer such as a novelette or a novel? :D

u/the_divine_broochs Apr 17 '17
Howdy, u/Maisie-K! Much obliged! It's been too long.
I do indeed plan on writing something longer. With recent life changes my time has been horribly constrained, but I've been plugging away at the two characters I'm most interested in: Chaperon & Wumba. I want to get at least a novel out about those two.
After that! Who knows! I have spiral and composition notebooks full of outlines and drafts for things I want to do. And writing is the one thing I've always felt let me put voice to certain aspects of myself.

Vercalos come crawling out of a grate.
Door was locked. Anyway, welcome, u/the_divine_broochs, to the ranks of the shiny. u/BookWyrm17 should be alongs shortly with some form of gold paint.
At this point I wonder what sort of bulk discount she gets for the stuff.
Aaaaaaaanyway, what stories from Writing Prompts have yielded the strongest emotional response from you, be it laughter, anger, sadness, or whatever else?(Please disregard emotions caused by meta influences, like anger at a terribly written or deliberately offensive story)

I thought I wired that grate into the power grid...
Well, there are worse quests to crawl from the underlow than u/Vercalos!
shiftily glances around the room
Yes, far worse things...
I think one of my favorite stories I have read on r/writingprompts was [The Collector] (https://www.reddit.com/r/WritingPrompts/comments/57k7qm/wp_the_reason_your_life_flashes_before_your_eyes/?st=J1M5W79A&sh=abdc7cf2). I have shared it outside of Reddit several times because of how it resonated with me. I've kept in touch with u/darthvarda.
It's been a while, though! That is my go to because I now know it so well. I have a few others saved which I would need to pull out of the bag if this went further down the rabbit hole.

Congratulations, Divine!! About time you were spotlighted. I hope your novel planning/writing is going well!
And thank you so much for the mention! Definitely one of my favorite r/writingprompts pieces.

Unlocks the door and comes skipping in, hands suspiciously empty. Woohoo, who's next?
Screeches to a halt.u/the_divine_broochs! It's you! Yesss! I knew you'd get there someday! :D I'm sure you know the drill. 'Cept this time, the golden goodness is getting here a different way. I've attached a hose of the stuff in through the ventilation, so this place is gonna be getting a new paint job!
Questions! Who are your faaavorite characters that you've written, and who are your faaaavorite characters that someone else has written? Along those lines, who are your least favorite?
An ominious rumble fills the room, and the grate Ver came through rattles. Oops, there it is now! Think over those questions for me! Have fun!
Skips back out, locking the door behind.

Claps hands slowly and revels in the cliché
I've always imagined myself going out shiny and chrome, but glittering and gold? Perhaps Valhalla can be a memory while I gleam in Elysium. Much obliged, u/Bookwyrm17! You always put out prompts that catch my attention, much like u/Syraphia, so I sometimes get halfway through a response before I realize it's another one of yours.
I promise I'm not hunting yours down. They just... click.
Answers! I can quickly answer as to whom among my cabal I enjoy the most; Chaperon & Wumba, and perhaps the odd pair of Caracal & Falco. With the former I feel most connected because I get to explore something I have difficulty with, namely a lack of understanding of emotions on one side and the suppression of deeply felt emotions and memories on the other side. With the latter I simply enjoy exploring my own thoughts on the mentor and the mentee.
As for those someone else has written! It depends! If I go with authors I know quite well, I am obliged to say Frank Herbert's Paul Atreides. In fact, the entirety of the significant cast in the titular Dune novel is something I hold so close that I read it once a year. That along with some of Stephen King's casts (The Stand, The Dark Tower, Bag of Bones, Night Shift) actually make up a base of the most formative years of my reading and beginning of writing.
I also have a special place in my heart for Lucius Cornelius Sulla as portrayed by Colleen McCullough in her Masters of Rome series. A lot of laymen consider him a villain because of his position in history, whereas her portrayal is exactly how I had always imagined him. Or perhaps wanted to imagine him.
Eyes widen as the rumbling intensifies
Θεοί! I believe that sound means I'm all out of time.
breathes deep, tilts head back, spreads arms out to either side, and exhales before whispering
Witness me.

Congratulations u/the_divine_broochs! ...I hope they're all right, they haven't done anything on reddit for over a month. Hrm.

Howdy, u/Forricide!
It's been too long since I posted, I know. What little time I've had to write has been spent on my main project (good ol' Chaperon & Wumba).
Thank you for the kind words!

You're alive! That's good to hear. Double the congratulations - both on your spotlight, and continued life.

Howdy all, and much obliged!
I haven't even logged on in a while because of some life changes, so this was a (pleasant) surprise!
I've missed throwing the occasional story up for the fine folks of r/writingprompts.
