How is a spotlight chosen? If you find a writer who hasn’t been in the limelight yet, has multiple decent entries (at least 6 or more) over the past few months, and you think deserves a spotlight, send us a modmail with your recommendation! We’ll add them to the list and with luck, they’ll make it up here. we're currently revisiting the division between spotlights and the HoF, so expect the unexpected over the next few months. - Nate

Congratulations, u/coffeelover96! That you're here is no surprise, that it happened was inevitable. :) Since everyone else snarfed all the good questions (my own fault for not logging in earlier), let me ask...cream and sugar or black like the gods intended, and fries or perogies on a cold winter's night?

Thank you!

I like it both ways, and it's honestly 50/50 to how I drink it. I can actually handle black coffee much better, as far as my stomach goes. To be honest, I'm really into mochas right now

And I have to go with fries, because I don't even know where I could buy a perogy in this town :)

Thank you! As lovely as ever.

Can I ask a question, while you're in the neighborhood?

I think, if I've deduced correctly, (which means heard right) that you're a teacher. Do you have any advice for someone going into the field of teaching?

Ah, you're going into teaching? Cool.

Ping me on discord or IRC sometime and we can chat. :)

Congratulations u/coffeelover96! Woo!

Have you ever tried cold brew coffee and don't you just love it love it love it?

Cold coffee is disgusting. Scalding hot or not at all. Heathen

Woot! Woot!

Thank you!

Yes, I prefer hot coffee. Once, as a teen, I tried to make cold coffee, by letting it sit in the pot until it was room temperature; then I added ice, and viola!

I threw up!

Congrats u/coffeelover96 !!

Question:

  • What do you do when you hit a wall when writing?

  • Have you ever found yourself in a situation when you felt the wall was too high?

2

u/coffeelover96 Feb 27 '17

Thank you!

I don't hit walls when I'm writing stories, but papers for school? Yes. All the time. Usually I have to muscle through because it's the night before :)

As for writing for myself, it depends on my mood. I have pretty intense phases of ups and downs; so when I'm up, I always want to write, and when I'm down? I don't write at all. There's a period of 20 or so days were there's no posts from me at all, because I never felt like writing at all. But if I want to write, i will.

Kudos, u/coffeelover96! I always enjoy reading your stories whenever I catch them. My question for you is how long does it usually take you to write out a story before you feel it's 'done'?

I always take my sweet time, which is usually too slow for responses.

2

u/coffeelover96 Feb 27 '17

Thank you! I enjoyed your story about the coffee shop, no joke.

Usually I can be done anywhere from 30 minutes to half an hour. I usually listen to an album to get in the mood; for instance, the story about the witch I listened to the Taxi Driver Soundtrack. It's about an hour long, and I went through it one and a half times. I always try to shoot for 1,000 words, and an hour is usually an okay time for me to get them all out. Sometimes it's longer, it depends really.

30 minutes to half an hour huh? Give or take a second? :P

I do the same thing with the soundtracks. I must've listened to 100 oldies songs when I wrote the coffee shop one.

u/coffeelover96 Feb 27 '17

Thank you u/written4reddit. It really does mean a lot to hear it from a HoF memeber.

And I haven't forgot, but you gotta tell me what to do first :)

It's a secret...I'll let you know when I'm closer to finishing it.

Welcome, u/coffeelover96, to the ranks of the shiny. u/bookwyrm17 should be along shortly with gold paint.

....

shakes his head

I wonder what she will come up with this time. Last week it was a tub and diving board.

What was your favorite of your stories? Your Prompts? What was your favorite prompt? What prompt was one you loved, but couldn't think of a good story for?

2

u/coffeelover96 Feb 27 '17

Thank you, I'm proud to be here.

My favorite story? This is my most personal story. It may not be the best, but it has the most of me in it. My favorite prompt I ever wrote was about your dreams keeping you going. My favorite prompt? There was this one about a death eater or something. Can't remember who it was by ;)

2

u/Vercalos Feb 27 '17

Heh. You accidentally linked a reply to the story rather than the story itself... Oi was that more poignant than I expected from the somewhat comedic prompt.

Also, as for your favorite prompt, very subtle :p
