[S05E12] - 'Bratva' Post Episode Discussion

u/ArachnoLad Feb 09 '17
Rory just lied to Felicity. It's obvious he just wanted to get away from this ragtag group of losers after stopping a friggin nuke with his hand-me-down clothes. There's no way he could get into the Justice League by playing a simple henchman to a low-level vigilante.
154
u/samsaBEAR Feb 09 '17
To be fair it wouldn't surprise me if this was half the truth, he wasn't happy with Felicity's actions and I can't imagine seeing the damage John did to their prisoner helped. I could see him deciding to tap out before everything gets super fucked.
22
u/GRCCPC Feb 10 '17
Well. He was kinda being an asshole by following faith instead of taking the bomb to a less populated place. And i figured it would have been a perfect way to kill him as he was overpowered and uninitiated, not suitable for the story, so they in a way did a cheap emotionless death.
68
u/creedster91 Feb 10 '17
Rory would be the biggest hypocrite in the history of the show if he moved the nuke to a less populated place (like Felicity wanted to do again).
16
8
u/DaFuckIsWrongWithU Feb 14 '17
Did everyone in this thread get high before English class their entire life?
That would not make him a hypocrite. It would reinforce the fact that he has come to see what happened to his home town from a different perspective. Which we already knew as he forgave Felicity a while back.
Jesus fucking christ redditors are dumb.
28
u/dissenter_the_dragon Feb 11 '17
Bro, they had less than five minutes, and neither of them is a pilot. They would have had to clear 50 miles in all directions...after loading the plane and figuring out how to pilot it. Be serious.

So that basically means that the reporter chick has nothing to do with Prometheus if she's just now putting the pieces together about Oliver, right?
161
u/silverinferno3 Feb 09 '17
What if her informant is Prometheus and is just giving her the truth super slowly?
→ More replies (1)45

u/blockpro156 Feb 09 '17
Or maybe Prometheus is just using her, and he's selectively feeding her information.

Or the writers suck. We'll see.

Wouldn't be the first time they did this with Prometheus. If Evelyn was working with Prometheus then Prometheus learning who the Arrow is from Church doesn't make sense.

I'm thinking they rewrote the series during the break and Talia is the Prometheus. After all, he did kill her dad...
361
u/ClarkKentsDad Feb 09 '17
Remind me again why they don't just have Ragman take down Prometheus? I mean unless Prometheus is stronger than a nuclear bomb.

That may happen in some capacity. Considering the fact that Prometheus is VERY well prepared and seems to be one step ahead of Oliver no matter how hard he tries, it may backfire in some way though. Maybe he'll reveal that he has Eobard as his backup villain in case of Barry arriving or something.
You know, that'd actually be refreshing for a change, to see a villain rescue for once. The heroes all help each other a lot, why not the villains as well?
→ More replies (5)→ More replies (13)47
u/OnlyMyBiribiri Feb 09 '17
While that obviously can't be done now, you gotta remember that Rory himself wasn't sure if he could tank the nuke. He probably doesn't know the limits of his strength, so sending him to solo Prometheus wouldn't make sense.

u/Jay0hEn Feb 09 '17
He survived Havenrock. By that logic Prometheus should be a cake walk, but then again it's Arrow so logic is kinda thrown out the window.

Oliver: "And I think there's something going on with Felicity... like for the last 3 seasons or so..."

u/PrinceHerbert Feb 09 '17
For one brief moment, Felicity was on a plane carrying a nuclear weapon, exploding over some mountains.
448

Rene really should think about something that allows him to do hard hitting interviews after he's done shooting people and things... He has the intensity down.
5
u/thejpfg Feb 10 '17
Why didn't Curtis stayed instead of wild dog? It makes no sense
10
u/UpvoteIfYouAgreee Feb 10 '17
Because Wild Dog tends to make rash decisions and if the story at the end meant anything its that he like Lance and probably asked to stay and help him

'Are you saying my mouth looks like ass?!' Haha. Also I guess they realized Ragman was too OP/expensive CGI wise so they had to bench him. Sad. Also what was up with that wonky preview.

it was vague. no point in a preview
58
13
Feb 09 '17
I would rather they do it this way so he has more of a "send off" for right now instead of just keeping him around, with everybody wondering why he's not out there helping.
Because he's a little to OP/ budget for Arrow.
3
u/greatness101 Feb 09 '17
I think it was because he was too OP. He stopped a nuke with just rags, so he could basically just solve all their problems.
3
u/LucasVerBeek Feb 09 '17
Why even introduce him then...ugh I was just about to actually get back to watching Arrow and they bench my favorite character...well at least he isn't dead.

Cutting to the outside of the building took away a great hero moment from ragman. I don't need to see olivier and felicity hunging, i want to see a superhero trapping a nuke in some magic cloth.
57

To be fair, the bit with him chanting as the suit wrapped up the bomb was awesome.

u/kaymazing Feb 09 '17
Really love that Quentin is back, no matter the season he's the best actor on the show and his scenes were great. Rest of the episode was solid. The nuke scene with felicity and ragman was pretty rushed and awkward though.
53
u/D-Castle Feb 09 '17
I mean Paul's a good actor...but what is Quentin really going to do/serve now?
39
u/kaymazing Feb 09 '17
Another character to tie Oliver to the whole mayor side of things besides just meetings with the DA I would guess. It doesnt really matter, through the other seasons he was mostly just a random cop and he fit in just fine because he carries weight when he is in a scene

I feel like people want everyone to join the Legends.
3
Feb 11 '17
I think that it's because Arrow has more people than Legends, which is supposed to be the one with the big ensemble cast. It doesn't make any sense, which makes it even dumber that they killed Laurel, they could have killed Colton Haynes, or quite a few other characters, off since he hasn't even been on the show in basically 2 seasons and it would have had a lot of impact on the story since he was Oliver's first side kick.

Out of town, Oliver said. I mean of all the illogical things to happen within the context of the Arrowverse, Thea leaving town isn't weird.

u/GamersComm Feb 09 '17
Am I the only one tired of Diggle? Every week it's:
Diggle: "Damn Oliver, you really helped me understand what this is all about, I'm going to be a better person."
Someone talks shit about Diggle
Diggle: "I'm going to fucking kill that son of a bitch!"
58
u/samsaBEAR Feb 09 '17
Yeah he's gone from a great character to just existing, his best material in the last couple of seasons has come from the crossover episodes and his reactions to the increasingly weird parts of the universe. Can't believe I'm gonna say this but he should have been the one killed last season.

u/rickgrimesfan123 Feb 10 '17 edited Feb 10 '17

Agreed. They could have had him absent for a while until they figure out what to do with his character.

Feb 10 '17
It's the same thing with Quentin, Thea, and Felicity. There's just nothing for them with the direction the show is going.
Ollie, Rory, Curtis, Wilddog, Dinah, Thea, and Felicity in a MUCH smaller role behind a desk doing tech things is all the show needs.
6
u/Forever_Man Feb 09 '17
Diggle had the right to be a little unhinged... He's been in hiding and in prison for a while now, and that would stress anyone out

u/__xylek__ Feb 09 '17
Never mind having multiple times where he's like 3 seconds away from being walked out to a van to likely be shot in the head.

u/Divine_E Feb 09 '17
Well, technically speaking, you could smash a nuke up with a sledge hammer, and nothing negative would happen, other than you getting radiation poisoning. Impact doesn't cause nukes to go off, they actually are designed to explode before hitting the ground to maximize damage.

u/Coolica1 Feb 09 '17
Really liked the episode tonight but something is really getting on my nerves. It's clear that the writers have practically ran out of things for Thea and felicity to do (somehow? especially for Thea). Yet for felicity they conjure up an unconvincing storyline (seriously she is the vigilante hacker, how is what she's doing now any different?) that gives her the 2nd most screentime on the show behind Oliver and for Thea, she has been left out for the past 3 episodes. Hate seeing Thea get shafted like this, might as well have killed her off instead of Laurel as she hasn't done anything since she died anyway.
Great episode though, hope this quality keeps up even with the Cupid/Lady Cop episode that is coming up.
192
u/Shippoyasha Feb 09 '17
Felicity is written like a pro wrestling character. Changing personalities to freshen her up instead of doing so to make actual narrative sense.
And yeah, Thea may as well not even be around. She just stands there like some kid on the dodgeball sidelines.

They ran out of stories to tell with all the characters, lets run down the list.
-Lance is in rehab again
-Diggles been framed for some reason
-Thea's not doing anything
-Felicity is now in ally with some hacking group?
-Oliver is being the worst mayor ever
If they don't have stories to tell with characters then kill them off, it's that simple.

Great episode! I'm glad to see that that Black Siren episode was only a single-episode dip in quality. Sad to see Rags go, though. Is he coming back?
Also, they did a very S1/2 thematic thing with the flashbacks. Loved that scene where Anatoli called Oliver his brother, to compare it to Diggle doing it. That kinda thing doesn't happen as often anymore, which, to be fair, it'd get old if it did, but sometimes...
Also Ragman survived a nuke unscathed except for power loss, so he's pretty much inarguably the most powerful hero in the DCW, heh. Well, was. Depending on whether CW Superman/Supergirl could take one, I guess.
28
u/StannisBa Feb 09 '17 edited Feb 09 '17
I disagree with the notion of Ragman being the most powerful hero due to being able to tank a nuke
Firestorm tanked a nuke in season 1 of LoT (he should get stronger by doing so tbf) and transformed one later in season 1 into water, SG also tanked one during S1 of supergirl

I actually like the mayor stuff as his public role, gives a unique take on the "Oliver" persona
Wilddog and Quintin hahaha. "It was safer for me being over here instead of over there starting an international incident." "Go polish your hockey mask"
"Aliens?" "Yeah."
"John Diggle now you my favorite american."
I honestly hope Talia isnt Prometheus, I'm loving her.
Everyone being reckless and Oliver being the normal one is a change. Both Felicity and Diggle on the edge.
Curious how long the time has been that Oliver has been training for, must be a fair difference from the last episode.
I'm liking Dinah/Oliver. She's awesome.
"Your strange friends pronunciation is horrible."
Something going on with the Russians/Prometheus.
5
u/bfodder Feb 10 '17
I honestly hope Talia isnt Prometheus, I'm loving her.
How does this make sense to anyone? Prometheus is mad about the shit Oliver did in S1. Talia is the one who coerced him into doing that stuff.

Anyone else find it weird that Oliver was getting his ass kicked by the Bratva earlier in the season, then Talia puts a bow back in his hands and suddenly he's progressed to his S1 fighting level?

Feb 09 '17
I loved how they had Oliver act as the moral compass for the team this episode. Rene and Quentin's scenes were great, I'm actually semi-interested in Felicity's plot line right now, Curtis just being tech support was a great character change, Dinah is pretty cool and I liked her talk with Oliver. Susan Williams looking into Oliver's past is interesting, and I like that she found out about Oliver being the Green Arrow. That should be interesting later on.
Bummed that Ragman is leaving, but I'm like 95% sure he'll be back later on. But in the mean time, it's just Oliver, Dinah, Rene and Diggle, and smaller teams are always better to watch in action.
Thea's back next week too, so that's cool. Also I'm pretty sure this was the Rene backstory episode. Hopefully we'll see Prometheus, Artemis or Vigilante soon. The Vigilante and Prometheus unmaskings will definitely be fun to watch.
