Is /r/imgoingtohellforthis racist? /r/thathappened debates and downvotes

It started with getting pulled over for eating onion rings and devolved into a Hitler/Anne Frank meme almost immediately. Enjoy:

Is r/imgoingtohellforthis racist?

Yes. Court dismissed, bring in the dancing lobsters.

Seriously was this even a question?

"Dark humor" sadly tends to be used as an excuse for racism.

Don't take me wrong, I'm not saying that dark humor shouldn't be a thing. Randomly shouting sterotypes isn't good dark.humor in my book though.

I unsubbed from it ages ago because of that. It's too bad too because I have some submissions that are pretty dark hunored but I can't find an alternative to post them on.

Go to the evil universe, post them in r/wholesomememes, collect karma.

Wait why are there so many gifs of lobsters dancing in a courtroom?

It's a bit from The Amanda show, which was a nickelodeon sketch comedy show.

I always thought of it as the antechamber to the r/coontown/altright sphere of hatebox subs.

An obsession with SJWs and cucks (aside from being the most played out "taboo" imaginable on reddit) leads pretty easily into actual, not-cute, not-ironic far-right politics.

I thought the entire purpose of that place was for edgy teenagers to post racist/sexist memes. Is that not the case?

Hey! They're not always racist or sexist. Sometimes they're homophobic instead.

Don't forget the crown jewel of their comedy, blatant transphobia!

I've heard some 'ethically iffy' but really hilarious jokes before. Think Louis CK's "but maaaaybe" bit.
The problem with IGTHFT is that they're unfunny teens making hamfisted jokes that they think are on that level. Toddlers going "poopoo doodoo" while envisioning themselves at the Apollo.

I would argue that a lot of it isn't even that. In my opinion, a lot of r/imgoingtohellforthis goes for the "I find this funny because I empathize with this" angle of humor... with racism.

This is super apparent with their edits of Sarah Andersen's work that get posted there a bunch. This original comic is pretty decent because a lot of people assosciate with that problem. The edit of that comic? There's no joke. It's only funny if you empathize with the idea that "black people are incredibly stupid."

Racial humor can be funny, but you have to have some structural humor where the entirety of the humor isn't just coming from a racist sentiment.

I'm not racist, but I do happen to agree with racists. Also, most of my conversations on race begin with "I'm not racist, but...".

I wish I understood why some people enjoy repeating the same tired jokes over and over again ad nauseum. Seems kind of boring to me.

Of course it is.

Every time that the joke isn't aimed at minorities/women/jews, the general reaction is "whoa whoa dude, this is too much!!1!"

The sub is just for "certain" kinds of Non-PC jokes.

They're not exactly equal-opportunity offenders. A post making fun of white people will usually be downvoted into oblivion and/or filled with comments like "hurr durr at least im not a n***** lol".

"Is it true? Are our jokes dumb and tired? ...No, it's the redditers who are triggered."

I don't get the first joke

It's missing context/the parent comment:

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out how it relates to the OP. I'm obviously missing something since it has nearly 300 upvotes.
