Cornelius deserved it, and I love the dress, but I really wanted Mah-Jing to win only because his positive reaction was so wonderful.
70
u/Ahuva Nov 18 '16
I agree. I hate Cornelius and love Mah-Jing, but I have to admit that Cornelius's dress was wonderful and exactly what they meant when they said something editorial for the powerful woman. They didn't mention it, bu Cornelius also styled his girl exactly right.

u/lena_chichi Nov 19 '16
Cornelius knocked it out of the park this week maybe because he chose to stop playing the victim and got in the zone. I think he's still the weakest designer here except for Mah-jing mostly because of their craft and taste issues.
10
Nov 18 '16
Same here. I actually did love Mah-Jing's better, but Cornelius' was my second favorite - both looks were gorgeous.

Mah-Jing is so sensitive. I like... want to buy him an ice cream cone and give him a hug.

u/Ahuva Nov 18 '16 edited Nov 18 '16
It's funny to think how sensitive he turned out with that bad-ass mom. I wonder if he was brought up by someone else.
Edit: forgot a word.12
u/Roonil___Wazlib Nov 18 '16
Who knows - she could be a very sensitive lady outside of the 5 minutes that we saw her on the show. Being badass and having a soft side are not mutually exclusive.

4
u/sixtyorange Nov 22 '16
I feel like that's actually not that surprising - if you spend most of your life really, really wanting to please someone that attitude tends to carry over into the rest of your life.

u/marrrina831 Nov 18 '16
ERIN NO NOT AFTER THAT COAT YOU MADE YOUR MOM
33
u/cloudbustingmp3 Nov 18 '16
my mom and i literally shouted NO in unison smh
45
u/marrrina831 Nov 18 '16
She is either the most oblivious or most stubborn designer there ever was
34
28
Nov 18 '16
I'm really just over Erin and this continued "big cocoon coat/dress with ginormous pockets" boner that she seems to have with every look.
25
u/Shamenundotcom Nov 18 '16
This was the week I officially disembarked the Erin Train. I still think she is very, very talented, and I don't particularly care for the way the show has been portraying her recently. But I just can't try to rationalize rooting for her at this point. That pink cocoon thing -- WTF. Yes, she did abandon it and do something else. But that felt like a total Hail Mary and, to me, did not seem to be Erin at all. I think she is burnt out and, yes, stubborn. And at this point I'm way more interested in Laurence, Rik, and Roberi.
6
Nov 18 '16
Oh, I've been off the Erin train. And I'm with you, my top three for the finals are (I'm hoping) Laurence, Rik and Roberi, in that exact order.
4
u/Shamenundotcom Nov 18 '16
Aren't those three all sitting on the stools in the cast photo? It's kind of weird, although sometimes those promo slips are intentional. (See also: Drag Race All Stars 2, where the Final 3 were right in the middle of the picture.)

Maybe if Nathalia spent less time obsessing over Erin, she might actually design something worth liking. Only 2 minutes into the episode and she is throwing shade again!
63
u/AgentFreckles Nov 18 '16
Then she had the nerve to say something about how Erin had been in the bottom a lot lately and she better watch out. Like, umm, you have too?
11
27
u/callist1990 Nov 18 '16
I like that we actually got to hear Erin's thoughts on Natalia this time - and she was totally gracious if a bit critical of Natalia's need for help from others.
32
Nov 18 '16
Yeah, I said it a few weeks back. Nathalia's animosity toward Erin seems to be completely one-sided, which makes her looks like crazy.
6
u/dangerboy55 Nov 18 '16
She needed to go but Dexter? I agree with Nina, he has more.
17
Nov 18 '16
I think it was the attitude that got him the boot. He made it quite clear that he thinks he is so out-of-the-box when he really isn't, that he wasn't going to give the judges more. He was going to continue using the same things as a crutch and then defensively claim he was "taking a risk" when they called him out on it.
4
u/dangerboy55 Nov 18 '16
You're right. Also they had one week with no eliminations plus the Tim Gunn save so they had to do a double elimination to keep within the correct number of episodes.
6
10
u/puppetalk Nov 18 '16
I was a little bit over dexter this season, but I'd love to see him on a future All Stars. I think he can be a fantastic PR designer if he learn hot to suit his vision to the reality show.
3
103
Nov 18 '16
Oh, damn! He thought he was safe and everything. That was cold. He deserved it, but it was cold.
49
u/agentchange Nov 18 '16
Honestly, he is so self absorbed. They have been editing him pretty positively but if you really pay attention, everything is always about Dexter with Dexter. Cornelius stuck up for himself two episodes ago and Dexter makes some cry baby comment to Tim after he uses the save- like he needs Tim to coddle him instead of giving Cornelius his moment to be thankful and move on. Always so wounded. When another contestant is out, he collapsed for attention? That was her moment, not his. As soon as he did that, I hoped so hard that he was out.
19
Nov 18 '16
Yeah, at first he came off as sassy, but during that group challenge episode, did that mask come off. Then he had the nerve to apologize to Cornelius after he almost jumped down Cornelius's throat in the waiting room.
63
u/joeyGibson Nov 18 '16
He should have gone home for that outfit (and those fucking Mickey Mouse clipped-ear shoulders!) but it was just cruel the way Heidi revealed it to him. When she auf'd Nathalia, the way he reacted was utter relief that he had survived. Then Heidi drops the hammer in the name of "drama". Fuck that. Just tell both of them that they are both out at the same time and be done with it.
53
u/CokinRum Nov 18 '16
By season 16, she'll be executing contestants with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire...
37
6
6
u/joeyGibson Nov 18 '16
And she will name that bat "Nina" and she'll go on and on about how thirsty Nina is...
4
u/Omegamaru Nov 18 '16
I think she will keep it in house and just strangle them with her tragic red carpet outfits.
12
u/tyrian_purple Nov 19 '16
Yeah I hated watching that. Like you can feel the relief only to have it snatched right back. It's happened on other seasons and I've never liked watching it, even if it was time for the designer to go.
16
u/krampuscatcher Nov 18 '16 edited Dec 22 '16
Heidi said "one of you will be eliminated" seconds before she eliminates Nathalia. That was absolute cruel to Dexter. Heidi gave hope and relief to him and in moment next she does "Le Coup de grâce". That was drama.

u/cjameson10 Nov 21 '16
Especially when it's usually after they eliminate someone she says "that means you're in, you can leave the runway" BAZINGA!
1
u/dangerboy55 Nov 18 '16
That's not how reality TV works though.
5
u/joeyGibson Nov 18 '16
That's why I hate "reality" TV, in general. PR is really the only "reality" show I watch, and that's just because it's mostly a competition show, with bits of "drama" peppered in.
7
u/pixie_led Nov 18 '16
Meh...I was getting tired of his aesthetic anyway. Too drag queeny. I do love drag queens, mind you - but that look is overly dramatic and attention seeking to be fashion forward.
12
91
u/marrrina831 Nov 18 '16 edited Nov 18 '16
When the models own bralette is what makes the look.
I don't know why they assumed Dexter made it; he would have used that as a selling point if so
73
u/Indykutter Nov 18 '16
I really love Laurence's thoughtfulness. So often the designers like it short and don't really care how exposed the model is on the catwalk.
5
u/dangerboy55 Nov 18 '16
She should have been on top. That skirt was a bit iffy but as much as I love Erin, Laurence should have been on top and Erin shold have been safe. I hated that ruffle.
14
u/eyebrowsonfleek Nov 19 '16
Agreed, I was mystified at the praise for Erin's dress. The fabric must have been stunning in person.
2
u/dangerboy55 Nov 19 '16
I liked everything except the ruffle but Laurence should have been on top and Erin should have been safe
69
Nov 18 '16
OMG, Mah-Jing is so fucking cute!
31
u/FluffyPurpleThing Nov 18 '16
I always thought he was cute, but after seeing his with his mom, it made him that much more adorable. If i saw him IRL, wouldn't resist squishing him.
66
u/Gamer10123 Nov 18 '16
Dexter, those shoulders are not interesting or "high fashion", they just look ridiculous IMO...
40
u/BandsToMakeHerDance Nov 18 '16
Dexter, stop trying to make Mickey Mouse ear shoulder pads happen, it's NOT going to happen.
5
u/MouthPop Nov 18 '16
Well it happened in Rihanna's 'Hard' music video in 2009 but should be left in 2009
2
22
u/sixtyorange Nov 18 '16
And poorly constructed! They're just amorphous deflated balloons with no real 3D shape to them.
13
u/pursehook Nov 18 '16
Who would wear that? Miley Cyrus once, but probably not in black. I don't understand what he likes about them so much.
63
u/mycreativename Nov 18 '16
Shut up Nathalia. You are going to be on the bottom again too
38
Nov 18 '16
Talk about zero self-awareness - you were in the bottom last week too, Nathalia.
I'm so glad she and her little buddy Jenni are gone. I don't mind one designer disliking another, I truly don't - that's the nature of reality TV. But for those two to constantly talk smack about Erin and then blatantly mooch her design elements is just gross, and I'm glad they're both gone. And I'm glad that one followed the other right out the door.
And the fact that they're both such assholes that they've got me defending Erin, who I also don't like, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
3
u/msKashcroft Nov 19 '16
yeah, Jenni was probably the stronger designer of the two. So, Nathalia's really showed that she has weak ideas without Jenni around.
61
u/ceilinghole Nov 18 '16
As soon as they let Nathalia leave the runway before telling Dexter he was in I knew they were gonna send him home too
43
u/I_am_really_shocked Nov 18 '16
For me it was when she said one or more of you will be out.
26
Nov 18 '16
But sometimes when she says that, they don't always eliminate both bottom two designers - sometimes it's just a fake out.
That much being said, I'm not sad that they're both gone.
4
u/msKashcroft Nov 19 '16
sometimes it's a fake out but it always happens after a Tim Gunn save or the judges don't eliminate someone.

u/cloudbustingmp3 Nov 18 '16

55
45
u/insubordinance Nov 18 '16
100% saw those two "safe"'s coming based on the screentime this episode.
28
u/FunnyHunnyBunny Nov 18 '16
Project Runway has always been bad about giving away whose safe each episode. It's always whoever doesn't have any screentime during the episode. I wish the editors didn't make it so obvious.
7
u/katiethered Nov 18 '16
I mean, early on when there's a 10+ designers, there's no other way to do it. There are too many people to focus on everyone. So either you show the folks who will be in the top and bottom, or you show someone who will just be safe and make the audience think, "Why did we spend so much time on so-and-so if they didn't win or lose?"
4
u/Ahuva Nov 18 '16
I kind of like it. It relieves me when I see that my favourite doesn't have air time and prepares me for an elimination if I see my favourite spotlighted and their work is poor.

the judges were correct about the cut on the bosom. I adored the cut outs on the sides, but the top had the wrong proportions. He needs to be technically better if he's going to go up against Laurence.

Down to 6... wow. I feel like they finally got rid of all the designers who weren't as technically competent, so we should see more of an interesting competition now. I'm excited for when we get down to the last 4, who I'm predicting will be Laurence, Rik, Roberi, and Erin.
-
Even though I don't like Cornelius, you can see from his past work that he can tailor and make interesting seams and shapes, even if the prints he chooses are often WTF. Also funny he's less catty since the save. Can't say the same for Nathalia who was STILL talking trash even after how bad she did the previous week.
-
I love Mah-jing but not all challenges on this show are for him. If you look at his past work, it's clear he has tailoring skill and can excel when the challenge is somewhat near his element. Glad he got a second wind from the last challenge (also it's nice that even if he doesn't win, he got to repair his relationship with his mother!)
-
I did like Dexter in the beginning, but his ideas are way bigger than his skill set. The one challenge he won was from pitching/leading rather than sewing/designing. He is pretty hit-or-miss. I think it would've been interesting to see him on the show later on in his career. Or perhaps he will end up on some sort of leading/styling/directing/management/idea side of fashion rather than technical.
-
Nathalia... meh. She's just too young and doesn't have much of a voice in her work yet. Her voice is all on the outside (and often at other people..lol) vs. Laurence whose work speaks volumes for itself. Nathalia's outfit this week reminded me of the over-designed team challenge earlier with the reflective blues and grays. Additionally, she just didn't present herself well on the show. Imagine telling someone you were on Project Runway and they're like "oh you were that one catty bitch that trash talked that one season" and that's it. That's all they remember you by.
-
As for Erin, I get where she's coming from. She's an art person. If you have a fine arts background, it's a given you will be out of touch with reality. In fact, it's even encouraged in most fine arts programs I've seen. Mostly, you create for the sake of creating rather than focusing on what would sell well. Unfortunately for her, fashion does have a business side which requires you to step outside your creative headcanon from time to time. Glad she was able to do that this week, even if it was still on the safe side.
Edit: formatting and added the last bit

u/georgia36 Nov 19 '16
Roberi amazes me....not so much his designs although I think they are nice, but his personality. He seems to have the pureness and innocence of a 10 year old and the wisdom and serenity of an old man?

Some comments:
-
I hate when the challenge is about New York and all the designers go for super cliched inspirations (the Statue of Liberty, the shiny buildings, etc).
-
I actually felt OFFENDED by Dexter's look, I'm glad he's out.
-
The double elimination was not necessary in my opinion. Yet, I think it was either Nathalia or Cornelius next anyway.
-
Wasn't Erin's dress super basic? Sometimes I feel the judges almost look for excuses to overpraise some outfits.
-
In general, I feel this might be the most naive generation of designers. It just seems to me that they have never seen a real business woman.
