The "Kayne doesn't have an influence" argument doesn't hold water when you actually research what he's done. He created GOOD Music record label, producing debut albums of John Legend, Mr Hudson, and Kid Cudi. He is also receiving tons of producing credit. And while he may not be the most influential person, it's silly to say he hasn't had any influence in the music business.

I guess if you're not into hip-hop/pop it's possible to say Kanye hasn't really had an influence on your life. But he's a pretty influential person in the music industry. Some people just seem desperate to hate on him.

I know that he was in a south park episode and I found out from reddit a while ago he got married. I don't know that I have ever heard any of his music though.

I contend that outside of the pop music community, and many years removed from now, Kanye will be remembered far more for being tabloid fodder than for his musical contributions.

Not that I think his music isn't good - just that George Bush doesn't care about black people.

I disagree. His music has had a huge impact on hip hop as a whole, and albums like College Dropout and My Beautiful Dark Twisted fantasy are pretty widely considered to be an important part of the canon of modern hip hop.

Eh, I think tabloid stuff will be forgotten because in the end it doesn't matter and no one really cares on deep and existential level. They don't write books about tabloid material.

Eh, yeah, maybe. But just 'cause he may exist in the cultural zeitgeist as belligerent personality, it doesn't mean he hasn't made an impact. It's not really mutually exclusive. It ain't no joke.

Same person, in a reply to another top-level comment, shoehorning some extra stupid into the thread:

Nah. Bought my "Hillary for Prison" shirt online. Fits perfectly. Nothing like this image OP posted.

Maybe it's different for chicks because they like everything tight enough but not too tight. Idk.

Unclear whether the second sentence is meant to imply that the fit of his "Hillary for Prison" t-shirt is roomy or UA compression-gear tight.

I used to think that people who use words like "SJW" or "cancer" to describe comments or phenomenon on the Internet to be unworthy of anything other than complete disdain.

I thank the person OP linked for reaffirming my belief.

Seriously though: any comments made by SRD users in that thread will be considered brigading and will lead to bans. Votes from SRD users are also brigading, very rude and will be thrown out automatically by the Reddit system anyway.

What if we happen to also be a regular of the sub where the drama is happening? Do we have to stop commenting the moment we see the SRD post?

I love the comment that Kanye has been hugely influential on the music industry. Assuming that's all music, that's pretty fucking ludicrous.

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

I wouldn't say the entire industry, but he's definitely had a colossal impact on hip hop.
