How safe is it for two girls to take a trip around Meghalaya without any tours company? What is a good time to visit there?

What are some off-the-beaten-path attractions in Meghalaya? Not Shillong or Cherrapunji, but somewhere that most people wouldn't have heard of.

Anyone has some nice pics of Meghalaya? Honestly this state has been completely off the maps for me. Not a state that gets any sort of news / air time. Like ever. :/

Seriously? It's one of the northeastern states I hear about the most with Shillong being there and all.
Here's a music video I posted a while back. http://youtu.be/87QcClDxf-A
Some great landscape shots.

Went there recently. The scenery there blew every other place in India our of water. It's stunning and completely unexplored. Me and wife backpacked the Khasi Hills area of the state for around 5 days. Went to Chirrupunji, Mawlynnong, Daoki and of course Shillong. I'm at work right now but will post pictures later on for sure.

I visited West Garo Hills, Shillong, Cherrapunji and Laitlum and a few other places for 9 days in Meghalaya recently. Loved the place and people. Prohibition in place, which was surprising.
But lots of unplanned construction, illegal mining and deforestation happening. If it goes on like this then it wouldn't be long before Meghalaya will look like Assam, deforested, over-populated and flooded.
