Political Drama FBI recommends no charges against Hillary Clinton. The political subreddits recommend popcorn.

This story broke this morning:

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/07/fbi-recommends-no-charges-against-clinton-in-email-probe-225102

After a one year long investigation, the FBI has officially recommended no charges be filled against Hillary Clinton for her handling of classified emails on her private server.

Many Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump supporters had been hoping for her to receive an indictment over this. So naturally, in response there is a ton of arguing and drama across Reddit. Here are a few particularly popcorn-filled threads:

Note: I'll add more threads here as I find them.

How on earth do you idiots just shrug this off? If I don't understand the law to such a degree that I can see something clearly broken, say that it's clearly broken, then be told by self righteous idiots that "you dont get it bruh, this is just how the country works" without a shred of "i know its fucked, its clearly fucked and i just like things being fucky" added to that as caveat then yeah I guess I dont understand the laws in crazyfuckville, usa. please, please teach me all about how this is perfectly ok and totally normal.

Man this dude is legit pissed. I haven't been that angry about anything since trying to platinum Metal Gear Rising.

Reddit's best legal minds are already parsing the details of the press conference. The emerging consensus among these giants of jurisprudence is that the law is stupid.

This exchange in r/SandersForPresident killed me:

You're really just proving the point that people on reddit don't know what they're talking about

No, you're just proving that people on Reddit can be tedious and pedantic

You literally don't know what the FBI does.

Jesus, you're really doubling down on this one, aren't you?

The mutual outrage is pretty funny.

What's fun is that I don't know which side each one is on, and it still works.

Best part are the various comments claiming that intent doesn't matter (for any crime). How can someone be so ignorant of the legal system astonishes me.

Because reddit and the general public tend to view law as how they think it should be in a specfic situation and not what it is.

Well, there are some strict liability crimes where intent/mens rea need not be proven.

Look, you may be new here, but r/The_Donald is where many top minds collaborate, and routinely outsmart the most well funded, well equipped and diabolical organizations on earth. How do we do it? Top thinkers, experts on every field, unparalleled investigative skills and fearlessness. I would trust a top comment here over pretty much any news source, especially a mainstream source, any day.

I'm currently "arguing" with a TOP MIND on r/politics, who thinks it's total bullshit that the FBI could decide not to recommend charges, or the DOJ could decide that they shouldn't pursue charges.... because "It's not for the FBI or DOJ to decide if she broke the law. It's for the courts to decide."

Because apparently everyone accused of a crime must stand trial, even if law enforcement and the prosecution decide there isn't anything behind those accusations.......And then he calls me a troll for pointing out just how fucking stupid a system that would be.

This fucking site, man...... Good god.

What are the odds on that guy having a problem with the effects of rape accusations then? If he says every accusation should go to trial...

"It's not for the FBI or DOJ to decide if she broke the law. It's for the courts to decide."

It's because most redditors uses 'guilty until proven otherwise' instead of innocent.

It's easier on our minds, you see. /s

As someone who Googled some legal terminology, here's why the FBI is wrong.

Holy shit. My mom came into my room to bring me a plate of chicken nuggets and I literally screamed at her and hit the plate of chicken nuggets out of her hand. She started yelling and swearing at me and I slammed the door on her. I’m so distressed right now I don’t know what to do. I didn’t mean to do that to my mom but I’m literally in shock from the results today. I feel like I’m going to explode. Why the fucking fuck is she not being arrested? This can’t be happening. I’m having a fucking breakdown. I don’t want to believe the world is so corrupt. I want a future to believe in. I want Hillary to be in prison and fix this broken country. I cannot fucking deal with this right now. It wasn’t supposed to be like this, I thought she was grilled by the FBI???? This is so fucked.

God I wish laypeople would at least accept the possibility that the director of the FBI (and an accomplished legal scholar in his own right) understands criminal law better than they do.

well, if you just take a look at this Breitbart article, you'll see that the only just conclusion to this is summary execution for high treason

u/Felinomancy Jul 05 '16

summary execution

What, we don't do hanging, drawing and quartering any more? Damn liberals.

I'm reasonably sure that the person who compared this to 9/11 is not old enough to actually remember 9/11.
