Man this is hilarious. I love "not real punk" drama. We just need some people arguing about green day to round it out.

I'm in a punk fb group specifically to watch the "not real punk" drama. In the past couple weeks there have been arguments on:

  1. Does voting make you not a real punk?

  2. Was riot grrl feminism or real punk? (These were mutually exclusive categories for some reason.)

  3. Is Green Day real punk?

  4. Are AJJ still real punk after their name change?

  5. (This one is constant so it kinda doesn't count) Is being ~PC~ punk or not punk?

Any "OMG (insert artist) is not real (genre)" argument is so hilarious

He seems like the kind of guy who only listens to Crass and yet is convinced he has good taste in music.

NOFX are pretty damn influential. Their music was dumb fun for most of the career, but they actually got better as they get older. They're not a hardcore punk band, nor are they pretending to be.

Wow I just flashed back to being 12 years old and judging people for not being "punk" enough because I listened to NOFX and Rancid and they listened to Sum 41.

The difference is, I grew out of it. Seems this guy hasn't.

I'm so punk I hate punk

I think this is probably true for most music communities, but in my experience people who say Band isn't really Genre are fairly new to the scene and are trying to establish themselves as discerning and/or distancing themselves from the "entry level" music that is more mainstream.

Jesus, r/Music has gone full YouTube comments. People accusing him of being a fan of Beiber and Nickelback because he doesn't like the music they like.

Just about everyone in this thread is a fud, my favourite kind of drama.
