When this post is ~30 minutes, Polyphia will be answering your questions in this thread (AMA)

[u/[deleted]]

I'll be setting up the post and they will reply to comments on their account. Feel free to ask your questions now.

Polyphia just released their 2nd full length album, Renaissance and will be embarking on tour tomorrow.

So, Polyphia is like an STD right?

[u/PolyphiaAMA → u/expired_in_goreville]

as long as it's contagious and spreading rapidly then we're fine with that

[u/djmonize13]

Just wondering if you guys saw this. Totally giving Scott this if I can make it to your next Toronto Show. http://imgur.com/gallery/krpux

I've gotta ask - did you have The Weeknd's "The Hills" in mind when writing Nightmare? That mashup is really well done and cool, but the songs are incredibly similar, down to the structure/melodies! Not tryna hate, I'm just curious is all. Keep it up, and congrats on the new album <3

Can we know why Brandon quit the band?

[u/PolyphiaAMA → u/PoneyLoverXz]

We decided it would be best to part ways with Brandon as we realized that we had two completely different visions of what the music should be. That being said, we are still on good terms with him so please support him and his music!

How did you come up with the name Polyphia?

And can you guys get Strawberry Girls to play "Swimming Pools" in Seattle next week :)?

[u/PolyphiaAMA → u/[deleted]]

Polyphia is a play on the word Polyphony: the style of simultaneously combining a number of parts, each forming an individual melody and harmonizing with each other. You'll have to ask them yourself haha

[u/girlbehindthecurtain]

What inspired you to name your album Renaissance? What inspired the content in your music videos? Why do people call Scottie Swip? Who do each of you play as in Smash Bros?

[u/Chriso2357]

Out of your material you have recorded, what do you consider the hardest to play?

[u/MoeHentaiMiku]

Enjoying the release so far. Culture Shock is a very fun song to groove to.

What inspired Renaissance and its songs? I'm particularly interested on how Light and Culture Shock was developed.

[u/Alnag]

How old were each of you when you started learning your instruments? Also, how many hours would you say you guys practice a day?

Love everything you guys have put out so far by the way, keep it up.

Hey guys! Huge fan, since the first EP. Got a few questions for you:

1 - Why did you guys leave EBMM?

2 - How are you guys recording the guitars and basses?

3 - What amp models are you using for guitars and basses?

4 - Any cool mixing techniques you can share? How do you get that punchy snare tone? Doy you use a lot of Overheads and drum mics?

5 - How are you guys writting and playing with 7 and 8 strings? What tunnings?

6 - Don't wanna be an ass, but could you commend Bandon's second leaving?

7 - What is your live setup?

8 - What are your mains inspirations (artists, bands, etc...)

9 - What is your practice regime?

10 - Where do you guys get these jackets?

11 - What is bigger? Scott's nose or the Wall of China?

You guys are awesome! Hope you can answer some of these.

How would you go about promoting your music, provided that the impassion video wasn't an instant youtube hit?

[u/expired_in_goreville]

What's your favorite James Franco movie?

[u/PolyphiaAMA → u/expired_in_goreville]

Clay- Pineapple Express Tim- this is the end Scott- the one with Seth rogen

[u/Sleepypand672]

Did you take music theory classes? I learned scales but I have no idea how to string them together, I feel like I'm just randomly playing inside the structure. Should i just keep at it or am I missing a piece of knowledge?

[u/ThatHcDude]

How do you name your songs? I've always wondered.

[u/[deleted]]

What inspired Clay to play his hybrid style? I don't know a single bassist that plays that way aside from him!

[u/Alecazam18]

I'm super happy about this album I would say it's my favorite from you guys by far! I definitely know that I love now hearing colabs you guys do like in Muse and now I know I love a complete record of just you guys playing! But why no colabs in this album guys?

[u/elmiondorad0]

I've been asking this question on FB and Insta now to Clay: Dear Claybro, how do you set your Darkglass B7K and the rest of your signal?

And also a more personal one: You guys have insanely good gear (from what I've seen on Instagram posts), do you guys happen to have plenty o green or what kind of jobs/activities have you done to afford that sexy gear?

[u/Bobsparadox]

What picks do you guys use?

[u/sammr24]

So I'll be seeing you guys in Brooklyn with my boyfriend for the second time, and we actually hung out with you guys last time we saw you at Coco66. Well, anyway, what I wanted to ask is if anyone of you has the Legend of Zelda hat my boyfriend gave you and if you guys could bring it/wear it for the show on Friday April 1?

[u/nattyiyce]

What advice would you guys give to a guitarist who is trying to sound less "scaley" and more musical on his instrument? FYI you guys are doing it on this latest record!! Much love from Fort Worth!!

[u/paramexer]

Hey guys, huge fan here, I had a few questions that I wanted to ask you guys.

1. Do ever feel uninspired by guitar based music? I seem to be listening more and gathering inspiration from trumpet players recently, which seems strange because I play guitar. Do you guys sometimes feel the same way?

2. How often do you guys practice improvisation over changes? Do you guys improvise your solos when you play them live?

3. Any advice for an up and coming band trying to put their first EP online? Specifically, is there any advice you could provide on trying to maximise your exposure when putting your album up on YouTube?

Thanks alot, you guys rock.
