Watch out for the hole in the bottom of the popcorn bucket for this drama on /r/okcupid about messaging attractive but boring people.

Voluntarily celibate

And yet his primary criteria is that they're fuckable. What?

Because that way when they don't want to fuck him it doesn't matter because it's his choice... rejecting them all first.

the defense mechanism is strong in that one

He's talking up how much action he gets on the website, but then says he's voluntarily celibate? What is he doing?

Not ladies, that's for sure.

It's by choice. Just not his choice.

I literally had an interaction at a bar last weekend with a slender, gorgeous brunette girl that went like this: eye contact
Her: You're sexy.
Me: I think you're very pretty as well.
5 minutes of chit chat goes by, I find that she is very bright - Washington University in St. Louis alum. She then went: "You know, if you're down for a threesome, my friend and I might be interested"

And he just blew it off. Same damn thing happened to me at the gas station this morning with a slender, elderly vixen. Here, I'll set the scene:

Her: Did you want one sausage biscuit or two?
Me: Oh you silly fox! I couldn't possibly have intercourse with you and your bridge buddies. Two.

Turns out she likes to play dominoes and not bridge, but that just makes her more impressive.

also: going to any particular university is not guarantee of intelligence

But, according to my professor at Harvard, it IS guarantee of snobbery over people who you can perceive to be less intelligent because of their alma mater!

Holy shit is he ever trying too hard. "Eight girls. I had EIGHT GIRLS talking to me. At ONCE!" Drop everything, r/OKCupid, for you have found your new god.

This is why men send copy and pasted messages.

It would take a Herculean effort to pore through every single one of these profiles, dig up something you could actually relate to, and construct a creative and witty message that likely isn't anything all that creative and witty that she hasn't heard before from countless other men.

So the answer is: because he is lazy and shallow. Reading a profile is too much work. He's already spent all his energy looking at a picture and pressing ctrl + V.

Spoken like someone who's never done the online dating thing

I've done the online dating thing and I actually put some effort in and read all the profiles before I sent a message. No point in even trying to start something if I know it will never work. I've actually gotten replies where the girl say I'm not her type but she felt I deserved a reply because I treated her like a human being. Turns out people likes being treated like people. Who would have guessed?

→ More replies (5)

How much of the women don't respond mentality is simply down to them getting spammed with messages, making it very difficult for them to respond?

u/Zotamedu Aug 18 '15

I don't know because I'm not a woman but from what I've heard, it can be quite bad.

One of my personal favorite drama archetypes:

  • OP posts something reasonably well constructed and makes a good point

  • OP immediately crashes and burns in the comment section as they reveal themselves to be a complete moron

Reminds me of the potential roommate drama linked here a couple days ago

I'm siding with OP and trying to explain this to r/okcupid is an uphill battle sometimes. Online dating is just soul sucking because you see the SAME SHIT in almost every profile. "I love to travel, adventures, brunch, I'm a demisexual polyamourous veganqueer femenist." I'm done with online dating.

I agree it's an uphill battle, it's why I frequent that sub but I think a guy like that is a much bigger problem than boring profiles. I mean, for the most part we all do the same fucking things but not everyone has chemistry or gets along, that is why you need to actually meet people.

Apply filter(24-30 year old women) read the same profile 50 time a in a row that all say the same thing. Look at all of the questions answered, only about 10 of them mean anything and they all are the middle option, how the hell else are you going to decide who to send the messages to without mass mailing?

I am very happy I am no longer online dating, it is soul crushing.
