User goes to r/Firefly and calls the show 'shoddy'. Browncoats unite to show him how wrong he is.

My favorite part is when he calls downvoters too immature to have an adult discussion about a TV show.

While OP is wrong about the acting being shoddy (ILU all actors of Firefly), once someone mentioned how there's basically no Chinese people/actors in the show at all (not even mixed, or in the background) despite the fact that the world they've built is extremely Chinese inspired and supposedly China has taken over the galaxy... it really ruined the show for me.

It did suffer from poor writing and low production values...but such is TV scifi

I would explain it away as how many areas of present day Africa, India etc. have clear cultural European heritage without actually having all that many people who define the typical European (ie. white) thanks to the still present impact of the colonial age.

For English you have huge swathes of territory from Zambia to Nigeria, Kenya to the Sudan, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, the Philippines etc. who all have English as a second language.

For French you have North Africa, the sub saharan area parts of Indochina etc.

For Firefly you could argue that "in universe" certain ethnicities tended to occupy certain parts of the area of space that the Alliance controlled, but their cultural impact was much larger due to actions that occurred back on Earth. So you could find areas with a lot of Chinese being spoken without actually all that many "Chinese" people being around.

Rather than just looking at it from the shows perspective and saying that it was an easy way for them to get around the censors board and being able to say some pretty graphic stuff without being forced to change the script because 99.9% of the audience was never going to understand what was being said.

Firefly wouldn't have been canceled if it was a decent show like The Big Bang Theory.
