Never heard of her myself. Never seen her on reddit or on the news. More like a nobody to me If I haven't heard of her on any of those sources.

I'll be sure to check in with the arbiter of pop culture next time then.

hahahaha winner

The stupidest argument I ever got in on this site was whether Barbara Streisand was famous.

the people claiming lily allen is less famous and/or has less money are hilarious.

fan myopia is always funny

British celebrities don't register to a lot of people in the US. I think it's so strange that some people who are considered to be C-list seem to have "it" over there and get UK fame, while other people who are huge in the US don't really register to the people in the UK, and vice versa. Global celebrity/superstardom is really a fairly rare thing, when you think about it.

What about their dad, Keith Allen? The greatest songwriter of his generation.

"NA NA NAAAAAA NA NA NAAAAA"

I feel there's a bit of projection going on in that thread.

Don't know about everyone else's family but the song would be exactly how we'd interact until they got a job. I'm guessing a few young ones are upset that it reflects their current life.

She also casts herself in a really uptight perfect child way. I don't think it's meant to be taken seriously.

1/ Gintoki all the way.

2/ I don't understand. I just checked wikipedia and it says that Alfie took the song lightly... Why do they say the opposite?

It's been a while since I heard the song, but isn't it basically describing the stereotypical reddit user? A young guy with no ambition who just sits in his bedroom all day smoking weed and playing video games? Yeah, I can see how some people on reddit might take that personally.

I mean, for what it's worth, the two things I've seen Alfie Allen in, he is playing a fuck-up.

Theon is just headshakingly dumb, and the kid he plays in John Wick is embarrassingly stupid.

I think it's kind of weird that people were so concerned that this would affect his career prospects. I guess they don't know that their father is a known person in the UK too?

Also what horrifying things that would render him unemployable were referenced in that song? That as a teenager he liked to get high and play video games? I mean he has every right to hate the song and be mad at his sister but couldn't he have just claimed she made it to tease him anyway?

I can't believe all the downvotes in that sub, this is the first time I'v really seen Americans just not get British culture and humour at all.

I've never understood why r/gameofthrones seems so much more fanboyish and unreasonable than r/asoiaf.

It's why Games is better than Gaming. Once you start limiting low effort content, you generally get better posts.

The gameofthrones mods only remove a few kinds of posts:

  1. Unmarked spoilers.

  2. Non-spoiler threads that didn't get marked as not having spoilers.

  3. Joke spoilers.

  4. Anything that implies sexuality in any way shape or form, if it's kjhatch. Who is basically Bud Manstrong from Venture Bros, and freaks the hell out if he sees anything that reminds him that sex and sexuality are things... which is kinda hilarious given, y'know... Game of Thrones. Thankfully he's a powermod so he's usually busy freaking out somewhere else.

Tbh I love the song cause I can imagine my older sister having the attitude about me and it seems like it shows lily cares about the brother. This is the first I'm hearing about Alfie being upset about it.

Eh he actually took it fine, and I doubt he harbors any of the hate you'll see in that thread

I love that song. It has this bouncy, Sesame-Street type vibe musically but the lyrical content is just hilarious. Alright, Still is a pretty great album overall.

That song was my jam back in the day I thought it was hilarious. I will still bump Alright, Still because it's a good fucking album.

Alfie Allen nice to meet... wait do you mean Lily Allen's brother? She has a song about you smoking WEED as a TEEN.

You see sir, artistic license...

Arrest this man!

u/DeerThespian Mar 24 '15

This is kinda funny as there was recently an interview with Alfie Allen published in the Radio Times and iirc he doesn't really mind the song.

Actually its kinda written like he's in support of Lily's song... It's like they're family or something!

Given the fact that reddit regards weed as a substance that can do no wrong, anytime, anywhere, ever, I'm really surprised they took it so easy on her. She didn't diss Alfie, she dissed weed, and that's cause to take up arms around here.

23

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '15

I don't even think she was dissing weed, just the chronic consumption of it. She talks about being high herself in other songs.
