Well chemical constituents are particulate combinatorics with quark measure distributions associated by gluons, and we know particles, or simple (non-complex) structures have intrinsic properties, not that they obey governance but they have charcteristics (quantifiable). In combination, and specifically so, the combinatoric facilitates an interaction that associates with a dynamic system, particles become entangled and by proximity share commonality even nonlocally. Thought is a dynamic resultant of physical interaction, electrical energy in directed sequence, and intangible in quantification but qualifiable as actual or hypothetical reflection of real occurrence (some event of some system in a continuum of spatiality with the tetra dimensional conditionality of temporality; or the constant enumeration of action. Thusly thought is a complex chemical reaction, an invisible one like a gaseous emission, rudimentarily speaking and taking liberties with the notion of Structure (including fields or spatially occupying objects) if we generalize interaction, we facillitate the variation of phase states and possibilities of physical substance, however minute, and realize that things radiate and emanate and emit and luminesce and fuse, forces gravitate and compel attractions on a microscopic level. With PET SCANS we know blood flow and cerebral regionality, with calculus we could successively approximate a number of neurons and evaluate the permeability and the deviation (reduction) of light speed for impulses as an average giving neuronal connectivity to certain brain regions. Extrapolating and using a time series analysis, we can measure thought as some "forceful" action occurring subsequent to protein reception, a stage in a series of particles bumping into masses of particles in varying structures of varying complexity.
The complexity is essential because there is a hierarchical scale, where n=a rank that 'radiates' the sensorial or memorial energetic redirection, like a conversion from the AtP and glucose to specific brain regions that handle different situations. Thusly it becomes cerebro-geographic as to where this invisible energetic expenditure of thought (sensorial analytics) is distributed which is difficult given the hyper numerical instance of such capable faculties, though clearly sonic interpretation is sensorial, it's the disruption of air particles at an intensity much like photonics are an energetic intensity registering as light or temperature from the sun, so a thought and interpretive mentality is an analaytic capability of a logarithmically impressive amalgamation of fundamentality in serendipitous combination, where an atom = rank n and a brain = rank n + some billions. It's as if the particles of the universe are like drops of water forming puddles, and some puddles are deep, like stars, which can essentially create life and planets and orbits, and smaller shallower 'puddles' are the brains of the simple creatures. It's all about how many combine in this giant rainstorm of the existent condition, and gravity is the condensation where universal expansion is the precipitation, everything else is drops, puddles, streams, rivers . Black holes are the whirlpools in the oceans, to be excruciatingly metaphorical but water is a wondrous analog for physics phenomenon. Thusly sentience is jus a puddle that happens to be ever so deep, and cannot compete to the fusion of the torrid ocean that is a star. Stars are not self aware, though sentience is awareness. It's not Intrinsically intelligence so much as it is a co tiniation of particle attraction. We eat things; our particles are basically seeking out more particles. We breathe air, particles and need sunlight (particles) we are engines of energetic continuance, a complex dynamic where particles seek to attract to other particles. Everything else is just lurid imperfection :)
