I think this season really went quite a ways in 10 episodes.
-
We started off dealing with Emmett's death.
-
Saw Sugar and Job form a bromance.
-
Saw Gordon and Carrie work through a lot of their despair, so much so Gordon ends up dying for Carrie. Also Gordon goes from being a wimpy lawyer to a mayor on the edge of loosing his mind to an even headed man trying to get his life back together oh and an amazing sniper. Go Gordon! RIP
-
Proctor get soft after loosing his mother and trying to find love before become even more dangerous than ever before.
-
Rebecca stepping out completely from shadow of being the quiet little Amish girl to being Proctor's heir apparent.
-
Chayton declaring war on "The white man" and then becoming the most hated character after killing Siobhan. RIP Siobhan you were my favorite female character.
-
Learning a lot more about Brock with the introduction of his ex-wife and his helping Hood kill Emmett's killers, Chayton, and now looking to help Bunker grow, and now being the Sheriff most likely.
-
We learn Burton is an eunuch, which somehow makes the most dangerous man on the show even scarier. Also the amazing fight between Burton and Nola left my jaw on the floor (and Nola's larynx)
-
A psychotic military colonel as the big baddie of the season and the person to rip off.
-
Job just being awesome and looking fabulous while doing it.
-
Hood starting out trying to find happiness with Siobhan and ending up with him
loosinglosing his love, quitting his job, loosing his friend, starting a relationship with his daughter and what looks like maybe Hood and Carrie being the most screwed up Leave it to Beaver family ever. -
Deva continues to flounder but started to gravitate toward her bio father Hood.
-
Max for really perfecting his magical talent of appearing at the beginning and end of the season. Move over David Copperfield.
-
Introduction of Bunker. The epitome of "Don't judge a book by it's cover". Seems like the perfect Banshee character - strong, determined, and haunted by his past. I'm curious to see where this guys character goes, besides the cupboard for the burn cream.
I'm sure I missed some things but this was just from the top of my head. This was my favorite season so far and I can't wait to see what season 4 brings.
24
u/BrotherhoodOfTheRose Mar 14 '15
And we started to see Hood's past on the finale and understand how he is such a bad ass.
14
u/drt0 Mar 14 '15
I think this season, loss was definitely a major theme.
Hood loses Siobhan (RIP) and becomes more and more desperate and disillusioned. Losing Job with no forseeable way to find him is the last straw to make him give up the crusade that has been his sheriffhood (no pun intended).
Proctor losing his mother made him rethink his life choices but the life those choices had built caught up with him and he realized there is no going back.

The after credits show us that Job ends up in the hands of Dalton, as Hood did before (u/Vercadi already pointed this out). So there's definitively a link and I guess we'll see Dalton finding Hood instead of Hood finding Job in season 4. Can't wait for January 2016!

The colonel was given the highest honor of dying like a samurai. He should be happy to go like that.

So that look by Proctor at the end of the episode was that a "Come work for me" look or a "I always knew you weren't a real sheriff." I'm very curious to see where this relationship goes. Maybe Proctor with his criminal connections can help Hood find Job?
55
u/TeamStark31 Mar 14 '15 edited Mar 14 '15
Felt like a "come work for me" look. Hoping for a Hood/Proctor team up next year where they go rescue Job. Also, I have a feeling Proctor could probably tell Hood wasn't a legit cop, but it was more beneficial for him to have a guy like Hood in that position.
22
u/DarthJudas Mar 14 '15
Agreed. I think Proctor respects Hood. Right from the start when he tried to buy Hood and got turned down he knew there was a new sheriff in town (pun intended).
9
u/WickedIcon Mar 15 '15
Proctor respects power, and Hood has consistently wrecked the ass of everyone who gets in his way.
2
u/mr_popcorn Mar 21 '15
As much as we'd all like to see that happen, there's no way in hell Hood is gonna come work for Proctor like some two-bit lackey. You can't have Yin working on Yang's side!
8
Mar 14 '15 edited Mar 14 '15
"You know being sheriff never really suited you" followed by a smirk = Proctor telling Hood to run for Mayor
Gordon's the mayor and he was obviously just killed. Hood is going to be the mayor and Proctor wants to back him.
edit: Proctor will probably offer Hood help finding Job in return for having him in his back pocket as mayor
7
u/dehehn Mar 15 '15
Except Hood just got the mayor killed shooting up a bunch of soldiers on a military base. I think he needs to leave town. But then he's needed to leave town since episode 1.
3
3
u/SawRub Mar 14 '15
To me it seemed like a "Come work for me" look. Maybe not full time, just on particular covert-type jobs so that the Banshee PD won't notice Hood is mixed up with them until towards the middle of next season.
6
Mar 14 '15
I really can't imagine Hood working for Proctor.
6
u/nonliteral Mar 14 '15
I don't think he'd ever work for Proctor, but I can see them working together if they can find a mutual goal (or a pair of complementary ones).
2
u/SawRub Mar 14 '15
Me neither. I can't see how it would work, but then again, I'm no writer so maybe they can make it work.
5
Mar 14 '15
Hood needs a favor though, he needs help to find Job. Proctor has the resources. Proctor never forgets when someone owes him a favor.
2
u/dehehn Mar 15 '15
It's hard to imagine after their relationship so far, but I really want them to work together. Proctor is a great character and I want to see more of him. If Hood doesn't want him dead that gives him some amount of plot armor.

Mar 14 '15
No it isn't, the creepy hacker took him to Dalton and Dalton will be next seasons main story.
6
3
u/Linkyc Mar 14 '15
Would be really interesting to see Job being turned into an NSA asset, tasked to capture or rat out Hood. I can imagine Dalton telling him something to the extent of: the choice is yours, spend the rest of your life in jail or put your act together and bring me Hood and the rest ot the crew. Of course they would have to apply good ol' fashioned waterboarding and all that jazz to make him subdue to their will. But hey, everything is viable in Banshee.
2
u/Highriderr Mar 15 '15
Why would he want Hood though? I mean, a brawler isn't too hard to find. Someone with Job's skill sets on the other hand...
1
1
u/nickcan Mar 16 '15
Well, the mayor position is open...
2
u/DarthJudas Mar 16 '15
I've seen a couple people mention that. I think that would be an interesting position for Hood.

Wow! What an episode.. For that matter what a season! Huge props to Rus Blackwell. He killed the role of Gordon and acted his face off through 3 seasons. He also went out like a boss!
25
u/BeginnerDevelop Mar 14 '15
definitely a mayor I'd vote for.
15
u/Stew514 Mar 14 '15
Is that an endorsement because being Mayor of Banshee seems like a death sentence.
3
u/mastersmadmen Mar 14 '15
What did happen to the young mayor of the 1st season?
15
u/NoCardio_ Mar 14 '15
He was inside the casino construction site when Proctor and Rebecca blew it up.

u/LostHydra Mar 14 '15
The acting by whoever plays the cool nazi was top notch. I'm also giddy thinking about what could happen if Hood/Kai team up for a season.
16
u/prof_talc Mar 14 '15
Totally agree. He looked like he was teetering on the abyss when he was wrapping that belt around his hand. Banshee is so awesome at little flourishes like that. The sound of that belt tightening around Bunker's hand, the crazy Salvadoran and his swords.
5
u/madeInNY Mar 14 '15
A proctor/hood collab would mean hood and Brock become enemies. I'm not so sure I want that.
1
u/dehehn Mar 15 '15
Personally I'd rather see more Proctor than Brock, so I'm rooting for Hood going to the dark side. He already worked for Rabbit.
1
u/rarely-sarcastic Mar 15 '15
I really like Brock and I love the actor but he does have a way of annoying the shit out of the viewer. He gets in the way so many times only to redeem himself later.

Mar 14 '15
Tbh, that was quite lame.
-4
u/rarely-sarcastic Mar 15 '15
Yeah I thought that was a bit cheesy. Especially the fights before with the kids. They had to show the badass side of Gordon but I think they forced it too much. It was still a badass scene and very fun to watch but I wish they had gone a different way.
The way I would have done it would be to have one of the kids (The main one or even the group) attempt to rape Deva and then Gordon would come in alone and wreck everyone's shit to pieces. It would have been more honest, more realistic and would not feel like he or Carrie were just showing off. And they could still put in the whole Carrie and Gordon love scene easily.5
9
u/Vercadi Mar 14 '15 edited Mar 14 '15
That wasn't a rpg, it was something similar to m203 grenade launcher.
Edit: Also he did not kill half a dozen people with it.

"THEY TOOK OUR JOB"
All while Brock was giving his pep talk I was thinking why don't they have a fundraiser to have his tattoos remove. -Bedroom scene- Burn victim fundraiser works too.
6
u/rarely-sarcastic Mar 15 '15
I wish the bedroom scene would have been shot a little better but that's probably because I was spoiled by the same punishment in Sons Of Anarchy where the scene dragged out uncomfortably and awesomely.

u/Osinib Mar 14 '15 edited Mar 14 '15
That fight between Carrie and Colonel Stowe was epic
-Stowe : "Hi Baby"
-Carrie :" You fight better then you fuck."
The choke-hold was mildly erotic for some reason. I am definitely going to miss this show, but great season final to keep us wanting more.
28
Mar 14 '15
for some reason.
Well, for starters, she was choking him on her pussy. That explains the erotic part.
2
11
u/nonliteral Mar 14 '15
-Carrie :" You fight better then you fuck."
Great line. Right up there with "You kill the next one then." "Done." "Nobody likes a wiseass."
3
u/rarely-sarcastic Mar 15 '15
Job and Sugar need to high five finally. A hug might be too much. I'd even settle for a fist bump.
1
26
u/Vercadi Mar 14 '15
Not sure if any have mentioned it, but the ending (after credits) when job is lying on the floor and you hear a door opens and he says 'fuck me'; yep definitely back to dalton.
Calling it, Dalton main villiain season 4.
4
u/mclaren23 Mar 16 '15
Thought so too, the footsteps you hear are very similar to the flashbacks you hear with Hood. Long hallway, echo-y open room..
1
u/scoarescoare Aug 28 '15
Late to the party, but I think you're totally right. Just flipped back to the 20:50 mark and the resemblance is uncanny.
2
19
u/prof_talc Mar 14 '15
Why didn't Bunker kick those guys in the face when they held his arms down? I couldn't get over why he wasn't struggling with the lower half of his body at all. It was like he was going to resign himself to capture if he couldn't use his biceps to curl his arms off the bed
10
u/Alsk1911 Mar 14 '15
We've seen him bench like 220 lbs, he has a huge upper body. That means he probably skips legs day hence it looks like "he wasn't struggling with the lower half of his body at all". The real question is, why didn't he just use his swole chest and arms to do a Hulk smash?
(I'm just kidding of course.)
4
Mar 14 '15
I'm rewatching it and he's barely struggling at all. That could have been solved by having two more guys there holding down his legs.
3
u/rarely-sarcastic Mar 15 '15
Not an easy thing to do. They were holding his wrists and shoulders down with their weight. If you can have someone kneel on your shoulders while you are on your back and see how much strength you have left in your arms and how much you can move them even with your hands being completely free.
His brother came around his side to avoid the legs and even put one hand somewhere around his stomach/hip which helped hold him down even more. Your legs alone can't do much without the use of your lower back/hips.
I also kind of agree with u/thelifeofkings. I'd even go as far as to say that Bunker was subconsciously glad this was happening. The brother implied that he would let him live and just get rid of his tattoos that have been haunting Bunker.2
u/prof_talc Mar 15 '15
Yeah I can buy that he may have been subconsciously ok with the burn. But he doesn't even try to move his lower body when he's on the bed. It makes sense if he sort of wanted it to happen, but otherwise it's a very odd way to struggle
33
u/Heiz3n Mar 14 '15
20 minutes in. The Ex-Nazi Cop's story is awesome. I love it. Actor is playing it perfectly so far in my opinion. So far it's been one of my favorite story lines of the season.
Seeing as the next season has been shortened, I assume it's the last so the writers will kill the Ex-Nazi before the really flesh his story out so we will be angry and the blow will be softened when the show ends.
9
u/genericaccount1234 Mar 14 '15
This is the second show where my favorite character was a neo-nazi, the first being Justified. I feel kind of guilty.

We're getting 5 seasons, most likely, and next season is 4. I think Bunker's staying, though, otherwise we won't have enough time to get to know whoever replaces him.
2
u/Heiz3n Mar 15 '15
Why do you think the show is getting renewed before the new season even starts airing?
When they shorten a season order down by 20% as they did for season 4 that usually isn't a good sign for the long term future of the show.

u/R-ostlund Mar 14 '15
This is how you do a season finale. I doubt I've ever seen a better one. Fully packed with the action we've expected from this great season, no fucking loose ends from ep 1 left but new ones started from the final 10 min that are ambiguous enough to keep us guessing until the new one starts.
Great Job to all involved!
3
u/bmc196 Mar 14 '15
Right!? When I saw we were only ten minutes into the episode and everyone was loading up their guns, I knew it was about to get good.

"Good answer. If you'd said yes, I'd have known you were fulla shit."
Can we please have a Sheriff Brock spinoff when this is all over?

I was so glad that they didn't go with the usual "I can't promise you that" like they overdo in a lot of shows and movies.

Synopsis:
Job reenacts Misery with his fanboy captor. Colonel Stowe is the one who knocks. Super Bunker Bros. An Amish guy and a Salvadoran decapitate a blind man with a sword. The mayor grenades then snipes some guys. A fair amount of treason. Job takes a ride. Aryan barbecue.

u/pabstjribbon Mar 14 '15
This the best and most underrated show on TV. More happens in one episode than an entire season of TWD. The finale was great. Gordon RIP- saw that coming a little bit, but it went in great fashion. Job getting taken leaves some great stuff open for season 4. The Proctor story line in this episode was great. I enjoyed Bankers story line developing and it will be interesting to see what goes down there after he gets burnt to a crisp. Well done!

I can't believe this is the first time in my life that I've seen someone in TV or a movie fake passing out to get out of a chokehold. That seems like the obvious thing to do, since people pretty much always let you go and then walk away and stop paying attention to you as soon as you go limp.
6
3
u/Linkyc Mar 14 '15
Well, it must be hard faking it. If you do it too soon, the choker will know you are faking it, too late and you know what.

Now that's how you do a season!
Firstly, I'd like to leave my usual composure behind and say, GORDON HOPEWELL LIKE A MUTHAFUCKING BOSS!
At times I've wondered what his function in the show was other than to mope around but seeing him get clean, drop a bunch of violent hipsters and then team up with Hood in "My Two Dads - The Nuclear Option" was brilliant. If you're going to go out, that's how you want to go out. His sniper battle was great and then taking the shot and blowing Stowe's hand off was perfect. You knew Stowe's ring (his precious? Heh...) would fit into it somehow.
The backstory on Hood was a nice reward for the long term viewer. I think we all knew it had to be something like that - he's a mix of Jason Bourne and XIII (only he gets more ladies than both put together). I was impressed by how young they made Hood look. He did look about 20 years younger and it wasn't just the buzzcut and clean shave.
The action in the Camp Genoa scene was pure Banshee all the way. No other show does it this well. We had the sniper battle, Job vs Afro Ninja (who wisely gave the nunchuk backflip a pass this time), Gordon and Hood vs everyone else and a stellar battle between Carrie and Stowe. I remember getting tired of Carrie mid-season but holy hell she was a force in this scene. Where would Banshee be without its one liners too? "You fight better than you fuck."
In parallel we see team Proctor join forces with Morales to take down the Blackbeards. Even Banshee's secondary pieces lay most shows to waste. I did find myself slightly less engaged in this with Morales making a mess of a perfectly good sword and Rebecca turning up in a white dress and heels with a revolver. Proctor and Burton are always worth watching, even in the little details which show Burton's devotion in less violent ways (fixing Kai's collar etc.)
The main thing is Job is still alive and undoubtedly going to be used to lure Hood back into the fold (or kill him off) so in Season 4 we have the prospect of seeing Banshee's equivalent of Treadstone in action. Remember the other Treadstone ops from Bourne Identity like the Professor? Those are the kind of memorable characters Banshee can do in its sleep. The world of Banshee just got a lot bigger.
The scene with Proctor and Hood was cool at the end. I always felt these two are far more alike than they are different and what did Proctor's "Mona Lisa" smile at the end mean? I can work with this guy? With him out of the way the town is mine? We shall see.
Finally I have to say the Brock Bunker double act is becoming as compelling as the Sugar Job double act. Their scene in the gym with Bunker seething with rage was electric and I also loved how his usual composure fell apart when he was throttling the skinhead earlier.
I've never heard of Tom Pelphrey before Banshee but he is really compelling as Bunker. I have a feeling Bunker is a guy you should probably just kill. Taking a blowtorch to him and leaving him alive is going to come back to haunt you in righteous beserker fury and I cant wait to see that.
Bring on season 4! It's going to be a long wait but hey, there's new Avengers and Star Wars in the meantime and Daredevil starts on Netflix in a few weeks.
I just realised that as well as Nola, three characters from the opening credits were killed off this season - Siobhan, Gordon and Chayton. To paraphrase one of Frankie Faison's lines from The Wire, "This is Banshee, gentlemen. The gods will not save you."

I think the most important thing to come out of this episode is the writers remembered Max was a character. Welcome back little asthmatic buddy.
