I have no idea how to feel about this episode.

53

u/[deleted] May 12 '14

Yeah...

I mean, don't get me wrong, I liked it. I really did. But it's not going to be something I go back and deliberately watch.

It's gonna be hella fun to analyze though.

One time thing I guess... at least you enjoyed it :)

1

u/ifoughtchucknorris May 16 '14

It had some pretty hilarious moments though. Like the ring leader repetitively trying to force a penny in that safe. I thought it was a great episode and I like when they throw us an episode like this every now and then. Also quite interesting that neither jake nor Finn said a word.

1

u/SimonWest May 15 '14

personally its my least favorite at ever. i have no problem with saying it wasn't enjoyable.

15

u/[deleted] May 12 '14

I was feeling kind of down so I was happy to take a break from studying to watch some AT, but the mood of this episode made me feel kind of depressed. What with the sad phonograph and the permanent frown, at least the ending was happy.

13

u/[deleted] May 12 '14

Wait, did the chipmunk hookup with the crazy squirrel?

15

u/[deleted] May 12 '14

Looked just like a typical squirrel.

9

u/homerdick15 May 12 '14

that squirrel wasnt crazy just sad man dont be so judgmental :p

0

u/LuridofArabia May 13 '14

If it's true it makes the whole episode fall into place. Jake's dreaming subconscious sent out his tail to rescue the squirrel's gf and make amends for wronging him.

I know it was supposed to be a nose, but all I saw was a Cyclops clown the whole time.

133

u/[deleted] May 12 '14

A very sad cyclops. If the bugs hadn't said "blue nose" I would have had no idea

27

u/CompC May 13 '14

SO THAT'S WHY HE'S CALLED BLUE NOSE! It all makes sense to me now!

18

u/Princess_Honey_Bunny May 13 '14

I tried to look at it like his hat was pulled way down on his 'eyes'(or where they should be)

20

u/Codename13 May 13 '14

I thought it was just the angle that made it look like he had one eye?

227

u/celestialmartyr May 12 '14

I love the idea that BMO and Neptr are friends in the show. Almost makes up for the lack of love that Neptr gets.

153

u/coolkid1717 May 13 '14

Last time neptr told BMO they were the same BMO said "I am nothing like you" in a really condescending tone. Its quite a change that BMO is hanging out with him now.

167

u/[deleted] May 13 '14

That's just BMO playing detective though. I think it was just poking fun at the cliche.

70

u/nameless88 May 13 '14

Classic hardboiled detective schtick. Only way it could've been better was if BMO was wearing a trenchcoat and put a fedora on while saying the line and stepping out into the rain outside in a dingy cityscape full of neon signs.

4

u/johnlewisdong Jun 16 '14

Man I love cheesy noir.

19

u/Odowla May 13 '14

He technically says "I am not like you". Which is only slightly less hurtful.

5

u/CorrosiveBackspin May 22 '14

What we also need to remember is that they're both robots so aren't sensitive about the same things as we humans.

5

u/blondefoxxx May 16 '14

I love how Adventure Time looks after all it's characters. I can't think of one who's really disappeared yet

10

u/[deleted] May 16 '14

Well, Billy.

Eat the ring leader, eat him Goralina!!

Goralina throws the ring leader

..No, of course not, they're not gonna show him getting eaten. That's too gross.

she eats half the audience

......Well, never mind!

u/Bobbies2Banger May 13 '14

If you want to see big things eat little things, watch attack on titan.

82

u/sleight_of_man May 13 '14

Holy crap that first episode though...

146

u/Latyon May 13 '14

Happy Mother's Day!

43

16

u/sean151 May 13 '14

Doesn't really compare to episode 5.

u/hehyih May 15 '14

I FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

9

u/Webkinzbananas8921 May 13 '14

I keep telling myself, after finals I need to catch up on 4 different shows....

4

u/karlcool12 May 14 '14

100+ for me.

3

u/firelordozai17 May 18 '14

AT knows no bounds. Finn lost his arm after all!

3

u/ChalkRust May 18 '14

Ya but he should have bled in between getting it ripped off and the white stuff touching him

3

u/firelordozai17 May 18 '14

true true, but what about his dad's leg healing? that was pretty gruesome by cartoon network standards

154

u/mer-pal May 13 '14

I like the fact that BMO respects jake Tail's privacy. Good job, BMO.

508

u/nerpss May 12 '14

Well. That was weird.

339

u/2th May 12 '14

But finding the snail was super easy!

164

u/Slam_Dunk_Kitten May 12 '14

That snail has mad skills, perfect form and he stuck the landing..

19

u/homerdick15 May 12 '14

thats what i thought as soon i saw him

13

u/SirLazarus May 13 '14

But he didn't wave :/ How rude...

7

u/BlackSpidy May 15 '14

He was in the middle of his work routine. One does not just stop one's job routine to wave at people.

1

u/blondefoxxx May 16 '14

but he didn't wave....

46

u/Mojoric May 12 '14

I agree... very odd... but I liked it.

6

u/catheraaine May 13 '14

Super weird.

5

u/creature_of_arrrrrgh May 16 '14

Yeah, great, first episode I am watching with my girlfriend after telling her that I as a grown man watch a cartoon show, and it is this.

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '14

Well, I'm sure she agreed this is as much for stoners as for kids.

0

u/[deleted] May 13 '14

4

u/chrbir1 May 13 '14

love it

2

u/[deleted] May 19 '14

Am I weird for not liking it?

2

u/joescool May 16 '14

WHAT WAS THAT?

1

u/blondefoxxx May 16 '14

yeah, they make somewhat grown-up, obscure references like that sometimes. like the much-discussed Epictetus philosophy cup Puhoy thing

1

u/Akco May 19 '14

You see I got a real "la strada" feel because of the circus theme and all.

1

u/godson21212 May 20 '14

That music was really amazing

1

u/mikeman1090 May 21 '14

Jeez that was very strange... I'll have to watch it from start to finish next time

1

u/catsofweed May 26 '14 edited May 26 '14

I took it as an homage to artsy mimes, as well as the once popular, long-suffering Sad Clown archetype.

-12

u/Sookye May 12 '14

Not weird enough for my taste. It was an extremely conventional plot and the only real weirdness was that the protagonist was Jake's tail. And that detail just felt random — I don't like randomness, I like weirdness that messes with my mind. Just Finn's explanatory note about why he built the tower, "I'm going to space to punch my dad and steal his arm", was a funnier and more interesting type of weirdness than anything in Sad Face.

346

u/Slam_Dunk_Kitten May 12 '14

"Too much artsy, not enough fartsy"

Also good to see that BMO is back :D

68

u/[deleted] May 13 '14

BMO was back last week too :)

13

u/Slam_Dunk_Kitten May 13 '14

Really? That was the tower right? Can't say I remember seeing BMO.

57

u/mashtato May 13 '14

When the ice chunk hammered him/her into the ground? Or when he/she goes 'nyah' after Jake and Bubblegum do?

21

u/[deleted] May 13 '14

When the ice chunk hammered him/her into the ground?

My son and I laughed so hard at this while my wife just rolled her eyes.

129

u/Bigjellybean May 12 '14

That quote sums up season six so far. I love the "artsy, deep" stuff, but these goofy episodes got me into Adventure Time.

Still, that was odd.

144

u/thattdudee May 13 '14

Really? I usually like the goofy stuff but since things are getting more serious now in season six, I find these goofy episodes to be annoying.

175

u/Bigjellybean May 13 '14 edited May 14 '14

I'm just learning to be patient with the flow. I love the intense story lines about the Lich and Finn's father, but consider how many AT episodes have been released. Some 150 episodes animated and released. Mortal Folly/Recoil, the three-part "The Lich" saga, and the two "Citadel" episodes are the only episodes with the Lich as a major plot line. All other episodes concern other 'Adventure Times' around Ooo. While the focus is on Finn's growth, we witness the unravelling of Ooo's traditions and secrets; the world is a character too, and so we get these interesting episodes that are mistaken as wasteful.

I hope that doesn't come off as condescending or annoying to you. I'm just sharing my thoughts after tonight's episodes. Still, we get ten minutes of new AT out of 162 hours each week. It can be painful. Just think when all the DVDs are out and we can soak in the goodness all at once =D

11

u/ZeekySantos May 15 '14

I like how the serious stuff perfectly meshes with the goofy stuff. I mean, finn builds a tower into space while singing a song about tearing off his father's arm? it's crazy in both a serious way and a "holy shit this is weird" kinda way.

4

u/blondefoxxx May 16 '14

I think it has to do with Finn aging in real time

2

u/ADCPlease May 17 '14

So annoying, specially when you wait so much for a new episode.

1

u/WhenTheRvlutionComes May 13 '14 edited May 13 '14

With all of the leftover plotlines now dangling about from the end of Season 5 and Season 6, it's all getting interconnected, and the goofy episodes just feel sort of like a break. Yep, just gonna have to wait another week. But I especially disliked this one just because it didn't involve any of the characters I care about - I don't care about the douchey ant circus, I don't care about Jake's tail, I maybe feel bad for the chipmunk but I don't care enough to watch an entire episode about it. Got somewhat excited seeing BMO and NEPTR in the trailer, but they basically weren't a part of the episode. James II, on the other hand, while it was a break, it was at least funny and involved characters I care about. I didn't even laugh during this one. In all honesty, I was just bored, I wanted to turn it off halfway through.

Meh, maybe I'm just spoiled, I watched Season 1-Season 5 recently in a huge marathon over a few weeks, and these season 6 episodes are the only ones I've had to really wait on to watch. I maybe wouldn't mind an episode like this so much if the next one was a click away. But it's almost painful waiting episode by episode.

EDIT: OK, maybe there was some depth, and it was analogy for creators being shat on by the suits. But still, I just didn't care for the episode. Sorry.

7

u/TheHarpyEagle May 13 '14

It is a little different once you get used to the waiting game. It's hard to notice when you marathon the show, but having to wait for those juicy story bits is what has kept me so interested in Adventure time. The filler episodes adjust the pacing a little bit in what would otherwise be a very rushed storyline. Plus, we get to see how Finn is dealing with his new situation, which adds greatly to his development as a character.

1

u/Latyon May 13 '14

I feel ya. I just wanted to mention that I was happy NEPTR was only a minor role. I fucking hate that thing.

1

u/Donaldthe2nd May 18 '14

Still doesn't compare to the wait between the flame princess episodes, god I wanted that to work out for Finn :P

2

u/MolotovBeta May 13 '14

I wonder if the circus was a metaphor for the fans who wish the show was more like the earlier seasons?

edit: nvm, u/TheRandomMan1000 nailed it with his comment

1

u/Bombkirby May 13 '14

Sounds like the youtube comments for the trailers of new epsiodes.

"This show used to be funny and random and now its too serious. I don't like this new stuff."

Tbh though they DID do kind of a bait and switch thing though. Bait people in who like the farts and then try to switch it with art. :P

114

u/pelecrumpkins May 12 '14

That ending was great. Finn's face.

175

u/SUM_Poindexter May 12 '14

Well that would certainly have a spot in adventure times 10 weirdest episodes.

I wanted BMO and neptr to play a bigger role in this episode.

247

Kinda forgot that was Jake's tail until the end.

55

u/This_needs_more_love May 14 '14

I really liked that too. I thought that the big finale of the episode was that Blue Nose was going to pull more of Jake in there and amaze the crowd with his stretching feats! But the fact that Blue Nose HAS his own character, personality, and problems makes this whole situation so much more hilarious to me!

It also speaks to the established world that no one even questions the fact that there's a very long, sad, silent clown that only shows up once a month to perform slapstick humor and/or avant garde style performance art in a tiny circus.

Another thing to think about: Does Blue Nose know he's a part of Jake? Jake obviously doesn't know about Blue Nose.
