Anyways I haven't seen the mods post this so I thought I'd take the lead.
Looking forward to a good one!

LOL TED, it was a bit too obvious that she's like
"I need Barney to find the locket"
Ted's like, hold on a sec let me get you water.
A minute later Barney shows up with the locket!
Derp.

All he had to do when Robin asked him about it is say that he had known that Barney had it, and was planning on giving it to her when he said his vows. Then, it's not illogical that when Ted saw Robin freaking out, he told Barney to give it to her now.

I know, right?
With the series being so close to the end you would think more people would be on here being pumped!
I guess everyone's too busy drinking their sorrows away....

At this point I think the reason is that the show is coming to an end and that's kind of personal to a lot of us. I have been coming onto these threads only a bit after the episodes aired. I like seeing the jokes and similar reactions still, but the ending of this show is a big deal to me (as a viewer since the middle of season 1).
So while I do love the community on here, I have to go this finale alone.

I checked mod posting history and all the "new" posts to this subreddit.
This seems to be the only discussion thread around specific to this episode!

Barney's initials are B.S.
(glass breaks)

Did you realize that Lily and Marshall's initials are L.A-M.E?

Mar 26 '14
My childhood friend's name was Ben and his brother's name was Dan. Their initials were BAN and DEN respectively.
Why couldn't the parents just swap the middle names!? Then Ben and Dan's initials would be BEN and DAN - all would be well in the world.

Season 4, Episode 16 "Sorry, Bro"
"Ted, sure it’s fun to look back at a time when you were a fresh faced farm girl with a virgin’s glow. But all that stuff, Ohio, Karen, college… all that was “BS” – Before Stinson. Now, your life is awesome!"
Barney Stinson
144
u/Dorkside Mar 25 '14
With all the lies he's told over the course of the show, I'm surprised that this is the first time that connection has been made.
7
u/RaN96 Mar 25 '14
Not the first time. Season 4 Episode 16.
"But all that stuff, Ohio, Karen, college… all that was “B.S.” – Before Stinson"

For House of Cards viewers...same thing happened to me when Frank Underwood's cufflinks dropped to read F.U.

u/SawRub Mar 25 '14
Nah it was explicit on House of Cards. In fact, even the character's name was chosen to be around the initials FU.

u/IM_FANTASTIC_LIKE Mar 25 '14
and maybe the writers are showing its just his nature as literally the last thing he does in the episode is lie (the "just kidding" thing)
5
4
u/captainhammer12 Mar 25 '14
Yeah I wonder how long the writers sat on those initials, knowing they'd get a good laugh.
1
u/epicluca Mar 26 '14
You started late? I've only been watching for a year, seven years is legendary
1
u/CZeke Mar 29 '14
It gives me hope that in the finale, they may finally, finally make the Marshall Law joke.
5
4
Mar 25 '14
It makes me wonder if they had this joke in mind, when they first started the series. Either way. genius.
3
2
u/britishbelle Mar 25 '14
I had it half figured out but never put it together as B.S. I had always hoped that someday we would find out he has two middle names: something like Barney Randall Oscar Stinson and his initials would be BROS

Is this seriously a revalation to people? This isn't the first time the show referenced his initials. Season 4 Episode 16.

Ted is like the the reverse Ross. Instead of marrying everyone, he prevents everyone's weddings.

"And that's how Robin met your mother"
YES.
556
u/invaderpixel Mar 25 '14
To be honest, I was dreading it from the preview last week but I'm glad she kept it simple and didn't give Robin a big fairy godmother like inspirational speech like she gave to Barney. She kept it pretty simple and was refreshingly honest. The fact that Barney was the one who ultimately showed he changed (by telling the truth about Ted finding the locket) was perfect. Much better mother encounter than I expected.
257
Mar 25 '14
I liked that Robin kind of poked fun at that. I'm paraphrasing here, but her line of "Aren't you supposed to give me a speech on going through this?" or something like that (again, not the exact line) made me laugh.

FYI when characters poke fun at tropes it's called Lampshading.

Mar 25 '14
Same. I'm glad she was kind of caught off guard by it. That's probably exactly what would happen if you were just a person hired out for some random wedding and the bride came crashing into you looking for life advice.
She ain't a shrink, she's an economics major/bassist!
2
u/lynsea Mar 25 '14
And it showed he trusted Ted. He must have known that Robin would have gone to him but Barney trusted him enough to tell Robin the truth knowing Ted would be his bro.
1
u/theseekerofbacon Mar 25 '14
Yup, besides the part where she couldn't deliver the "detective' line, she was pretty perfect.

u/CupcakeCrusader Mar 25 '14

Did anyone else notice "Sandcastles In the Sand" was playing as Robin walked down the aisle!??
A much slower version played on the piano. It actually sounded pretty beautiful.

It was so hard to tell if he was saying it was legendary because Barney is his bro and it's his catchphrase so he's paying homage to it.... OR if he's saying it was legendary because it wasn't real...
12
u/stephenp182 Mar 25 '14
I'd like to think Robin put it in that context to find a way out, due to panic, it meaning similarly "The stuff of Legend" or better than real, and that's what Ted meant that their life was better than real, or unbelievable. I guess we'll find out next week, hopefully.
8
u/PrintfReddit Mar 26 '14
Most likely, it was Ted beating Robin's logic. Legendary stuff can be real, Robin was broken to the point of believing all legendary stuff is fake, but their wedding was real and legendary and so was their love.

The slap bet is over?!?!?!? THIS SHOW REALLY IS COMING TO AN END!!!
5
Mar 25 '14
Here I was hoping they would do the final slap as a background gag in HIMYD like they discussed in an interview awhile ago, but that was perfect.
2
2
Mar 25 '14
I know, I think the writers just needed to not let that last slap be a mystery. Marshall should have kept it until Barney's deathbed. And as he takes his last breath he swings to give his last slap and misses on purpose.
