Doesn't matter, revealing that he is actually the Arrow would have been preferable to having Slade in the house. Of course, by that same reasoning he should have just told his mother about Slade at the end, since it's pretty irresponsible to let his family members put themselves at risk just because he has a secret identity to worry about.
So I guess it was simply a case of him acting instinctively, rather than rationally.

I think it was out of anger
Slade was clearly playing this "Im subtly threatening your family in your own house" game with Ollie, and Ollie was both angry and scared at the prospect of what Slade might do

How on Earth is Moira this oblivious to the tension between Slade and Ollie?
323
u/Rwings Mar 06 '14
Ego. She thinks its all about her.
2
u/blindmansayswat Mar 06 '14
OK, then what's Thea's excuse?
5
u/Rwings Mar 06 '14
She's dating a guy on a droid rage, her brother is the hood guy, and her friend his allies with Canary. Attention to detail not a strong trait. Joking aside the tension once she got there wasn't on the same level with Moira and it could be her just thinking the rift between her family is just that big.

8
u/NeuroCore Mar 06 '14
To be fair, she has absolutely no reason to think that there's hostility between Slade and Oliver
8
Mar 06 '14
I dunno. I thought Slade was doing a pretty decent job of acting coy about the whole situation. There was clear tension coming from Ollie the whole time, which she does see, but having no reason to believe they'd ever met before, has only one conclusion to draw upon: Ollie is being an asshole because he hates his mother.
2
u/DrSly Mar 07 '14
I don't realistically if you got into a fight with someone and they just started being an asshole to some random people I think you'd assume the odds are Ollie is just being an asshole instead of actually knowing Slade and going through all that shit with him. I agree ego is a big part but I don't think Moira is that oblivious.

If you have the gun and pull the trigger you need to own up to killing the person.

He's a coward whose backed into a corner.
9
u/SawRub Mar 06 '14
And to his credit, it worked a lot better than expected.

It actually turned out pretty terribly for him. Slade being pissed at Ollie means shit all when you've been stabbed.

u/ubiquitous_archer Mar 06 '14
Apparently you don't, at least according to Ivo's logic. That same logic will also result in you losing your hand...so...
1
u/LoweJ Mar 06 '14
he's trying to twist slade to be more against ollie than him. It's a very clever ploy to be fair

u/WawaSC Mar 06 '14
Woah. Did they just show Harley Quinn in the previews for next week?
59
u/Rwings Mar 06 '14
My best guess is the back of her is all we will see. Amanda will say something about how she's not being cooperative and still needs time before joining the team. Give us a tease for her character which they could use at a future date in time. Since casting her would have leaked somewhere imo by now if she was actually shown in the episode.

Either way, if they say the name harleen quinzell I will be happy. If she ends up on the show, or not.

He sure did sidestep that question. Though now I'm really wondering what's going on in 219.
13
u/karpinskijd Mar 06 '14
Nice catch! If they did, this would be one step closer for Batman. I thought of a perfect way they could introduce him, if they so chose (and based on the lineup of villains and issues in Starling, it's becoming a possibility):
Probably a season finale, Oliver looks over the grand city he protects from a rooftop. There's a slight shuffle in the back. He whips around and nocks his arrow. He starts shooting. The figure in the shadows manages to avoid them. Oliver fires one more arrow and the figure catches it. He snaps it. Oliver asks, "Who are you?" and the figure lifts his head up. In the little light there is, you can make out the bat ears before it cuts to the title card.
(I got really excited because this might be Harley Quinn. Sorry.)

u/RageX Mar 06 '14
I highly doubt they'll ever have Batman on. Wouldn't be opposed to Batman characters though. Like Nightwing and The Red Hood.
1
1
u/warkidd Mar 09 '14
Considering they aren't shy about using Batman villains, I wouldn't be too surprised if they introduced some of the heroes.
2
u/Goooblox Mar 06 '14
How can batman put up with someone like deathstroke though?I haven't read the comics so i don't know how powerful batman is in them, but it seems like batman wouldn't be much of a match for someone with really good training and super strength like Slade.
2
u/karpinskijd Mar 07 '14 edited Mar 07 '14
Batman and Deathstroke have gone toe-to-toe multiple times, sometimes Batman has won while Deathstroke has won others. I believe he still had powers in the comics when it came to strength and speed.
Plus, he's the goddamn Batman.
2
u/Goooblox Mar 07 '14
Yea you see that's what I don't get ,if deathstroke has superpowers and pretty much superhuman fighting skills, while batman is just a ordinary human, how the hell does batman win???I'm so confused...
1
u/apocalypsenowandthen Mar 06 '14
Personally, I think it would be best to have Batman in a season opener. If you put Batman in the show he's gonna detract the focus from Ollie and co because, let's face it, there's nothing cooler in the DC universe than Batman. It's the same reason he never showed up in Smallville. Well, that and the fact they didn't want to interfere with the Nolanverse. Anyways, I think it would make the most sense for him to show up in the first ep of a season. Firstly, it would get their team-up out of the way so that the rest of the season could focus on Ollie. Secondly, having Batman in the season opener (and promoting the crap out of it for months beforehand) would give the show a hell of a boost. They could attract a whole new audience to the show. I mean, I only started watching Arrow because of the Barry Allen episodes and I got hooked pretty quickly.
2
u/karpinskijd Mar 06 '14
Well obviously it would only be a Batman appearance, as the show is still Ollie's. Whether or not they decide to connect it to the new Gotham series or make a Bats series is up to them, which is doubtful.

I feel like Roy would slow him down just enough for Ollie and Sara to get in 1 punch each. Unless he took out Sara and Ollie first, and in that case they'd be screwed.

Oh! their introducing new characters, ones that will surely die when slade and Ollie start fucking shit up!

I feel that way too. He's got that weird thing going on with his rats. Plus he's way too "normal" when you put him next to the crazy killer, the Russian mob guy etc.
6
u/barrakuda Mar 06 '14
Doesn't the mobster make it back and do Ollie a favor later?
4
u/ubiquitous_archer Mar 06 '14
Yeah, in the Russian episode. He is also the reason Ollie has Russian Mob connections, at least we are left to assume.

No, you aimed the gun asshole, you killed her.
187
u/ubiquitous_archer Mar 06 '14
"He killed her. He made the choice." Really Ivo? Really? He made the choice because you put him in the scenario where that choice had to made.
I think they are doing a good job of showing how much an effect the Mirikuru is having on Slade. I mean, if he can't see through that piss poor logic, his mind must be altered significantly.
50
14
u/OnlyRoke Mar 06 '14
you see, when Ivo first confronts Slade with the truth I think Slade just snaps for that moment. Later (when Slade takes over) he doesn't care anymore who's to blame. He just wants them to suffer. All of them. Every single person ever. So yeah, while the Mirakuru fuels his anger I don't think he's "crazy", but he just doesn't care anymore.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (5)9
Mar 06 '14
I'd say Slade does realise but as he said himself he doesn't care. He's pissed off with Ollie, his brother in arms, for choosing Sarah over the love of Slade's life and, with the Mirakuru in his blood, that's enough. He doesn't actually think he killed Shado he just feels betrayed. Hence the "I don't care" line when Ollie tries to explain himself on the boat.

u/all_thetime Mar 06 '14
I thought Ivo shot the gun before Ollie made a decision. Why doesn't he flat out say that?
19
u/daffydunk Mar 06 '14
You might want to rewatch that scene, Olly very clearly jumps in front of Sara.
→ More replies (11)3
u/BritishBrownie Mar 09 '14
No, Ivo points the gun at Sara and says something like "Time's up" so Ollie runs in front of Sara (obviously) to stop her dying. He would have done the same if it was Shado; in reality Ivo made the choice for him, Ollie wasn't just going to let either of them die.
3
u/TraderMoes Mar 06 '14
Yep. When he tells Oliver that he had a choice, why doesn't Oliver just counter with why he was in the position to make such a choice. Besides, it's not like he even consciously chose, he just yelled "No!" and would have done so no matter who Ivo pointed the gun at.
And while the scene with Slade at the end does illustrate that it simply doesn't matter, he just needs vengeance against something, at least Oliver himself should understand these things and forgive himself.

3
u/Ugleh Mar 07 '14
Harley was shown (if just from the back, but it's pretty obvious that it's supposed to be her) in the other preview to be a inmate of A.R.G.U.S. But no, she's not a part of the group, it was likely just a cameo/tease
2

Oh god. The only thing that would round out that team perfectly is James Roday as King Shark (think about it).

whats keeping ollie about telling everyone who slade is after he leaves?
7
u/Rwings Mar 06 '14
Because it leaves open too many questions he doesn't want asked which is what Slade is counting on. The story his family knows is that he was alone on the island. Saying Slade was there and wants revenge it opens up to him being with other people and also being a killer.

u/DjessNL Mar 06 '14
The only reason I'm still up is because I'm studying for my French test, and that sucks so much because I'm really tempted to watch my first live episode of Arrow rather then downloading it the day after (I'm Dutch.)
Wish me luck..

Bonne chance. Maintenant regardez flèche!
Google translator no idea how correct that is.
2
u/DjessNL Mar 06 '14
No idea either. It's mainly vocabulary. But my school is fucking stupid, because they only gave up this test yesterday, and it's tomorrow. And I was in the hospital yesterday. So I have one night to study. It's 01:50 here and I already had 10 cups of coffee.
... And I just want to see Ollie and Slade fight ;.;
2
u/maximyzer Mar 06 '14
Not bad, except you translated "arrow" to the literal arrow word in french... We don't call the show Flèche Verte for the love of god !

Not a terrible mistake to make. Many countries do literal translations. For example Mexico.

That look on Slade's face when Sara announced herself. I think this is the FIRST time Slade has felt like he doesn't know all the variables.
