Moronic: One of our 17yo lot associates managed to split his leg open from hip to the side of his foot wrangling carts yesterday, largely because he was wearing inappropriate clothing (running shorts and flipflops, we require more substantial clothing and closed-toed shoes). He was bleeding everywhere so I and a recently-out Marine from Lumber went to work on him. WE HAVE INSUFFICIENT FIRST AID SUPPLIES IN THE BUILDING. We used every single piece of Z-fold gauze and every single cravat because we do not stock "serious" medical supplies like actual pressure bandages or crinkle gauze. And then the first ambulance to show up only had an EMT-B in it and they didn't have severe bleeding control shit either.

Now, it was a skin split, and he was bleeding like a stuck pig but it wasn't an arterial bleed so I really doubt his life was ever actually in danger even if nobody'd treated him until the paramedic got there (17 minutes), but hopefully we turned what could've been a permanently debilitating injury into just a gnarly scar.

It actually has me a little shook. I haven't had to seriously use my medical training in over a decade, I'm glad I remembered, but I'm gonna have words with the bosses about getting more substantial first aid.

7

u/GelgoogGuy 1d ago

Holy shit, so many things went wrong here. I'm shocked he wasn't sent home for showing up in such inappropriate clothing...and also the general lack of medical supplies is wild.

6

u/Bearfoxman 1d ago

He apparently showed up in sweatpants and tennis shoes and at some point went to his car and changed. When that happened will be investigated, but it's gonna cost him his job and possibly his workers comp. If it'd been a while and he'd been around other employees like that and nobody said anything, it could cost the FES and Ops ASM their jobs too.

And we have industry standard OSHA approved first aid kits in more places than they're required. The problem is they're very basic boo-boo kits, not bleeder/blowout or anything requiring actual training to use effectively. On purpose, because of liability.

It's also making me reassess my car crash kit.

6

u/GelgoogGuy 1d ago

Ugh, I need a stop the bleed class...

2

u/Bearfoxman 1d ago

Adult and child CPR too.

I need to recert on adult CPR. Been 7 or 8 years since I took it last.

One of our 17yo lot associates managed to split his leg open from hip to the side of his foot wrangling carts yesterday

...how?????

3

u/Bearfoxman 1d ago

I would very much like to know that myself.

From what I can tell/was told, he was smashed between two of our lumber carts while rolling them down the hill that is our parking lot.

And yeah they're heavy (about 140lbs each empty) and yeah it's a steep hill, but they shouldn't have had the momentum to do that unless he was like...riding them and they were going substantially faster than walking pace. Because it was a blunt injury with enough ...deformation? Penetration? To split the skin. Absolutely massive contusion at and around the split. Like he'd been hit by a car, except everyone's saying he wasn't.

So an educated guess is saying he was riding the lead cart, fell off, and got smashed between it and the trailing cart. But I don't know for sure.

5

u/Akalenedat 1d ago

riding them and they were going substantially faster than walking pace.

Sounds about right for a 17 year old retail schlub

4

u/Bearfoxman 1d ago

And thiiiiiiiiisssss is exactly why riding a cart, anywhere, for any reason, is a fireable offense. Literally more likely to get you fired instead of warned than skimming the till. Because it's an OSHA-reportable incident and we can only accrue so many of those per decade or the store's at risk of getting shut down.

Moronic: Downloaded MW4, getting ready for a nice weekend of playing, then suddenly my modem gives out on me. I’m out of internet until Xfinity ships me my new modem. Things like 9 years old at this point so it’s not surprising that it died. But being without wifi kinda sucks. My friends ended up hosting a kinda LAN party at their house with me lady night so we could play.

DMZ’s been a blast. I’ve jokingly dubbed my friend the “tripwire player” because he’s always the first to die when we run into another team, and he’s how we know another teams nearby when he dies. Guy has zero awareness of his surroundings in game when he’s looting and doesn’t notice other players.

Also shotguns come clutch in DMZ for clearing out NPCs, my friends refuse to use it but they’re the ones always running out of ammo when my shotgun has great ammo usage. They dump mags into enemy NPCs when my shotgun uses kne or two shells to kill an NPC who drops 3-9 shells in return.

Also so far campaign has had a riveting story. I haven’t finished it just yet but I’m loving the story and gameplay. I still refuse to play multiplayer though, I will strictly be only playing DMZ and campaign.

5

u/Remarkable_Aside1381 2d ago

Is it linear, or the goofy open world nonsense of MW3?

6

u/GelgoogGuy 2d ago

It's linear like a proper IW title. I feel bad for Sledgehammer having to cobble the MW3 campaign together like they did.

3

u/snippysniper 1d ago

Campaign is mostly linear. Mission 10 is open world, but you aren’t required to play it as open. You can fast travel to the objectives. It was a really good campaign.

2

u/BobbyWasabiMk2 1d ago

If it’s that open free roam mission in NK, I just barely got to that mission. It does make me sad and scared to play it, because I know my favorite character Cho is gonna die. I fucking love how he’s always eating somehow and how he claps back at Dunn.

5

u/Clumpin-style 1d ago

Yo dawg. This here is your favorite idiot who kept buying and selling guns and motorcycles and fought with you on who would post Tuesday.

I think I finally figured out what happened this time. I mostly reddit from work, and our IT department shifted us all into 100% VPN, but that VPN bounced between NY state and Washington state, and a lot of websites interpret that as bot traffic now.

3

u/monty845 1d ago

#1 rule of corporate IT, keep your as much of your personal internet use as possible to your personal device, using cellular data.

A few times a year I will look something up on the company asset, that isn't 100% work related, like the weather, but would never look at Reddit...

2

u/Remarkable_Aside1381 1d ago

but would never look at Reddit...

I'm thankful half my job is staying on top of trends and news, so I have a reason to be here

2

u/BobbyWasabiMk2 1d ago

Man it’s too early in the morning and my brain spent too long trying to process your comment and thought you were a bot or spam before it clicked in my head. Welcome back.

4

u/42AngryPandas 1d ago

I can't do a COD game anymore, as much as I want the magic of MW2 again. Multiplayer is so much fun, I'm not sure why you would avoid the main draw. Otherwise, I think I've moved on overall and feeling good with Valheim 1.0.

5

u/BobbyWasabiMk2 1d ago

I just hate PvP. DMZ has some PvP, which is tolerable for me if I’m with my friends. But PvP is just stressful and i play games to relax and immerse myself.

3

u/42AngryPandas 1d ago

It's definitely an acquired taste. I enjoy the chaos and BS of PvP. Especially with minimal HUD and it set to where it only takes a few shots to kill instead requiring half a mag. I've never been all that stressed by it, but I know what you mean.

I knew guys in college who would actually throw their controllers against the wall in rage. I never saw the point in breaking my own shit or taking a video game seriously.

2

u/Remarkable_Aside1381 1d ago

and i play games to relax and immerse myself.

What?? You don’t play games that frustrate you and raise your blood pressure until you rage quit? I think I’m playing games wrong then

10

u/Akalenedat 2d ago

I did not fully anticipate how frustrating it was going to be working at a gun store with an incredible employee discount...in order to save money. The things I would do if I wasn't trying to buy a house...

I think I might attempt a Form 1 .22 suppressor. I never did get around to doing a freeze plug kit back when they were all the rage, could be fun

2

u/talon04 1d ago

Yeah it's a struggle I'm sure.

2

u/kato_koch 1d ago

I get it. The shop I worked at had a big fishing section too. It was dangerous. On the plus side I was able to test fire some guns I was thinking about buying and either discovered some flaws or how they just aren't for me.

2

u/GelgoogGuy 1d ago

Working at Lowe's was like this. We didn't get a crazy discount, but I somehow came out only having purchased a DeWalt drill and 3/8ths impact, a new kitchen faucet, and a couple random things like tape and adhesives over the eight months I worked there.

Moronic is the idiot currently asking about Black Friday deals already. I forgot about that particular flavor of sad.

There was another idiot over the weekend who wanted to know "the best AR platform, and money is no object". I told him to stop acting like a spoiled rich kid and he claimed he didn't know what I meant, that he didn't have a budget in mind... that showed me.

My BIL and nephew got a deer each over the weekend, that was awesome. After not seeing any deer myself, I spent some time with friends at a kids park watching their almost-two-year old run around and con people into pushing him on the swing. He should get the motor functions to hold a fishing pole by next year, cant wait!

8

u/able_possible 1d ago

The entire point of a Black Friday sale is to do volume, no store is going to hide that they have stuff on sale. Redditors thinking there is some super secret extra Black Friday sales and begging to be told about them is one of the many reasons I hate having to share the Internet with them. It's just so dumb.

4

u/Remarkable_Aside1381 1d ago

Fuck it, I'm copying In n Out and having a "secret menu" of Black Friday deals. "Animal style" now means you want it optic ready

u/kato_koch 1d ago

My brother learned on Saturday why you don't have multiple kinds of ammo out on the bench while shooting. He was shooting his Ruger M77 Hawkeye .25-06 after putting some rounds through a new .400 Legend and said he had a round get jammed. I told him to run the bolt again and a .400 cartridge flipped out of his .25-06.

...

I'm glad the .400 isn't longer and the firing pin didn't touch it. Stay safe, friends.

2

u/42AngryPandas 1d ago

Oof, glad it was an easy learning moment over rough learning moment. Good PSA.

2

u/kato_koch 1d ago

I'll be real it scared the shit out of me.

On a positive note my friend who has been deer hunting with me the past few years came along and got in some time with the .270 I'm letting him borrow this year. He shot well and both of us are feeling more confident going into November now.

2

u/42AngryPandas 1d ago

Good point. I definitely need to take my 308 a bit in the next few weeks and double check my skill as well. I haven't been able practice much this year with the surgeries and other life events.

2

u/kato_koch 1d ago

We had a 10-15mph crosswind and it was really good for me to shoot my .450 Legend at 150 and 200 yards. The drift at 150 wasn't bad however it starts to get interesting at 200. Its 10x easier to shoot than a scoped 870 and I'm really excited to have it out soon.

FTP today, FTP tomorrow, FTP forever.

It’s my wife’s birthday and I have the day off, but she doesn’t. I’m gonna use this opportunity to annoy her as much as possible by dry firing, and cranking out some reloads.

Area 2 is in like 3 weeks and I haven’t gotten the match book yet. Is that normal?

2

u/_HottoDogu_ 1d ago

We've had Nationals matchbooks release only a mere 7 days before the match, we've also had majors release matchbooks months ahead of time. It's both normal and abnormal. The matchbook is really only useful for th bsquad matrix and schedule. Stages are never the same on the ground, so you shouldn't be studying the ones in the book like review material.

1

u/Remarkable_Aside1381 1d ago

The matchbook is really only useful for th bsquad matrix and schedule.

And I really want the schedule :(

I’m in an early squad, so I know I check-in at 6:30 Wednesday, but I don’t know how to plan my evenings yet

2

u/_HottoDogu_ 1d ago edited 1d ago

I'll ask around for you. I'm in a few chats with some of the staff for the match.

edit) Matchbook should be out next week is what I'm being told

1

u/Remarkable_Aside1381 1d ago

I appreciate you

Really just a rough end time, and if there’s gonna be a lunch break.

It can be a pain in the ass to check, but you really never know what might be hiding underneath your rear sight leaf springs. Here's a reminder to do the maintenance.

I discovered the handguard on my AK is starting to move a bit back and forth, so I guess it was time to undo the dozen or so screws holding it all together to see what was wrong. Looks like the block that mounts the chassis to the barrel never really had anything bracing it against the rear sight base, so I'm actually impressed it held as long as it did. I'll have to weld an extension or stick a shim in there and it should be g2g.

5

u/_HottoDogu_ 1d ago

The .38 reloads I made up last week shoot amazingly but they are likely quite under the minimum power factor needed for ICORE. 125gr over 4.5gr of W231 feel like absolutely nothing going off. Conventional wisdom is telling me this 125gr adventure is a hopeless effort for anything other than a mild plinking load and that I'll just have to settle for 158gr for viable competition loads.

Might swap out the rear sight blade on the 686 for a .160" one to get a deeper notch and more range in the rear elevation adjustment. I think the 4" 686s shipped with .146" ones and the notch is bisecting my fiber front in a way that I don't like.

2

u/Bearfoxman 1d ago

I'd expect 125 over 4.5 of W231 to chrono around 800fps from a 4" 686, so that'd be a PF of 100. What's your min? 120?

Book max for W231 is 4.8gr chronoing 1070fps from a 7.7" for a PF of 133 so losing almost half your barrel length while being down a few tenths of a grain is gonna bleed a lot of velocity. Looks like you'll need to attain a MV of 960fps to hit PF with a 125gr bullet.

2

u/_HottoDogu_ 1d ago edited 1d ago

You're correct, 800fps is about where it ended up. 120 is min PF for ICORE. 105 is IDPA SSR. I was a bit lax in reading the length of Hodgdon's test barrel when I was selecting the charge weight. I'm going to bump to the 4.8gr max and finish out the projectiles I have, then move over to 158gr FPs instead. There's no good way to make 125PF with 125gr .38 from a 4" barrel without pushing +P and even then it's cutting it close.

Oh well. At least I have a fun target load that burns really clean with the 125s.

2

u/Bearfoxman 1d ago

Clean matters! I have some Blue Dot loads for my .44 that are scary good, but absolutely filthy. To the point I don't like shooting them.

2

u/_HottoDogu_ 1d ago

I agree. Clean does matter. It's why I don't like most .32Long wadcutters loads, they're filthy at such a low pressure, doubly so in a .32mag gun.

I'm just slightly disappointed that I can't get away with 125s and make PF. Lighter and faster is my preference generally at least with my other guns, so settling for 158gr hurts me a little.

Work Moronic: I work in reverse logistics, contracted with a major cellular provider, and the release of the new IPhone 18 Pro/Max has been a ballache.

Apparently, the 18 Pro Max is unable to connect to their network, and is unable to be fixed via an update. Apple and the MNO said to return it, so we got tens of thousands of network bricked (otherwise NIB) 18Pro Maxes that we've been told to hold until corporate comes to a decision.

Well, we got the decision. As of right now, MNO corporate wants us to scrap them all. Not piece out for parts, not send back to apple to try and salvage the multiple petabytes worth of storage. Just, conveyor belt them into the industrial shredder. Brutal.

Personal Gun Moronic: I wanna swap the stock ok my AR, but the receiver tube nut on my Magpul UBR seized up and I'm too stupid to figure out how to get it apart without owning a vice.

4

u/_HottoDogu_ 1d ago

Tens of thousands sure doesn't sound like the small number said cellular provider was claiming for that issue. The shredder is a great use for all that memory, will keep the Micron stocks up 😹

1

u/ubersoldat13 1d ago

That mightve been a bit of an overestimate on my part. It's probably more in the 10-20 thousand range.

2

u/Your-Neighbor 1d ago

My company can't ship products without getting scalped by the distributors for the RAM we need. This hurts

Signed up for the falling steel match next Saturday as the first match test for the Athena, hoping to follow with USPSA the week after if everything runs well and if I can get into the match.

Haven't shot the steel match in ages, it will be a good test for the transition difference between the Shadow 2 and the Athena.

2

u/_HottoDogu_ 1d ago

I suppose I should sign up then....was really hoping I'd have the 686 all figured out by the next steel match, but sadly I do not.

1

u/able_possible 1d ago

I'm signed up for USPSA at True North also for November since their sign up was already open and I have a reminder set for Sir Walter so hoping to do at least a few of those after being busy for most of this month.

3

u/Te_Luftwaffle 2d ago

I finally got my PC set back up since we moved in February; I missed Tabletop Simulator and War Thunder.

I loaded some more 38 Super because I want to see if the Eotech EFLX can hold up to it.

The guy at the hunting license store told me to wait to buy one until I can go out with someone who knows what they're doing, and I think he's right. Saves me $50 at least.

What a busy weekend.

Saturday, my wife had our grandson and I went to the Airshow. However I elected to stop by a small pawnshop I'd wanted to browse before but hadn't had a chance to.

When I spotted something in the case...

A Smith & Wesson Model 28-2. For what feels like a solid deal.

I hemmed and hawed for a second and actually went to leave. Got into my truck and changed my mind. Went back and immediately bought it.

I swear I'm done now.

https://imgur.com/jF1LVlU

I can definitely stop buying guns whenever I want guys.

I'm totally good.

I also bought a 500gb Steam Deck on Friday purely to see if it would be something I would use more than the laptop.

I can confidently say, even if I don't my wife will. Cause she has been playing Phasmophobia all weekend on it...

And my kid wants one too...

Lowes was a good time last night. My favorite coworker was there with me and we got stuff done. Pulling clearance from top stock, refilling locations, helping customers 5 minutes before close. We went from "man we have been productive but not how we wanted" to "holy crap we got everything done and then some."

Edit imgur somehow borked up my albums. Twice so I guess you guys can enjoy the single photo for now.

Supplemental Moronic: Got voluntold to participate in a club-level Steel Challenge match tonight in both Production and Open, like 30 minutes ago. Had only planned to RSO it. Apparently the match director saw someone he really didn't like signed up for it and wants me to clown on them (I'm our club's top shooter by a large margin, largely because I'm 30+ years younger than most of the other members).

I don't have my competition rig together, I'll be shooting the match director's ammo (fortunately no power factor reqs in Steel Challenge so it's probably gonna be some bullshit like WWB) and I don't have a pistol min-maxed for Open (no 170mm mags) so looks like I'm shooting my P10F out of a Safariland in Production and my P320 X-Five out of a Black Scorpion Gear lvl 2 retention holster. Wish me luck on moving with a loaded P320...

And the match director won't even tell me who I'm supposed to go beat so I can't even look up his SCSA scores to see what I'm up against.

2

u/LovableLycanthrope 1d ago

There's a dude who's allegedly importing the auslof shotguns and I'm just moronic enough to figure out iffen it's real

3

u/PrometheusSmith 2d ago

Shot two club matches back to back. Second was steel challenge and I ran the Smith 617 Mountain Gun. Ran well, I didn't shoot great, I need to zero it. Total time was 44.73 seconds. I think that means I can go buy a new gun.

First match was 22lr Know Your Limits and I didn't shoot well at all. I picked up some more ammo on Saturday that had shot well previously and zeroed to the new ammo when I got to the range. I decided to throw out my chronograph while I was shooting and found out that the Eley Club that I bought was averaging 1170fps despite the target velocity range being about 100fps slower. Confirmed this wasn't a chronograph issue by throwing the suppressor on and confirming supersonic crack. WTF?

Also, everyone that says reloading is cheaper is wrong. I spent $300 at Scheels and all I got was the ammo, two sets of dies, powder and primers, and some bullets. It cost me about what a case of ammo will cost and I don't have any ammo to show for it!

2

u/_HottoDogu_ 1d ago

It cost me about what a case of ammo will cost and I don't have any ammo to show for it!

I was in the middle of writing a strongly worded comment until I got to this line 😔

Just crank out a single round of .327, that $300 will fully reimburse

1

u/PrometheusSmith 1d ago

I didn't even get 327 dies! I tried but I just ended up with 9x19 and 38/357/357 because that's what they had in store. I need to order lock rings for my Forester CoAx so I'll get the dies with that order.

Moronic: not using Maps to properly measure the distance I was going to run.

Had a goal to get to the west gate of the base I'm on. Figured it was about 5.5 or 6km away, not terrible, so decided to run it Saturday morning.

It was 8km to the gate. And since I ran there, I had to run back... Legs are tight today.
