Love the changes for this season!

A season long budget is going to be interesting. I don't know if they get the entire lump sum all at once or if they get the normal amount added each challenge but they can carry money over. Clearly most of the designers will not come close to needing the full amount since they will be sent home before getting to the finale.

Anonymous voting is great but I think it would be clear to the judges who the designer is based on the reactions of the designer and fellow designers. I know the judges are looking at the catwalk but it's not quite totally anonymous. Still, a big improvement.

I'm don't think that the up close and personal look of the outfits is super critical since the clothing should be able to stand on its own from the distance that the judges are sitting. For me, the jury's still out on this change.

And Tim Gunn at the runway show is of course great. Can't get enough of Tim!

I disagree slightly on the up close judging. It should look good from the distance of the judges, but seeing it up close can reveal some of the construction shortcuts/weaknesses or high quality work on the part of the designer. I think of it more as a tie breaker than a deal maker.

Beginning with the UK Season 1 viewing club, there will now be Rate the Runway threads (linked to via sidebar) for each episode which allows the r/projectrunway to do their own voting on each of the looks. It also lets everyone comment on each piece individually.

How does everyone feel about Kate returning? I'm so glad they aren't doing teams again and I'm happy about the changes taking place this season. I felt bad for Sandro and Timothy's models.

It was expected due to how recently she was on TV. I didn't have as much of an issue with her as others did so I am fine with her coming back though I would probably have been just as fine if not more so with either of the other two designers.

i did not like kate coming back AT ALL. she was not nice last season and her clothes were boring. perhaps she will prove me wrong. i was going for ramon's return because he went home during his season on that sci fi challenge, which was very unfortunate.

I am definitely way more fond of and excited for this season's cast. I also really like that the judges were able to examine the garments more closely.

I'm not Zac's biggest fan, but I'm glad he called Timothy out for burning the material and creating toxic fumes. I felt so bad for his model when she realized that she wasn't going to get styled and that he's a crazy badger.

When she was teaching her the choreography that was a complete r/cringe moment. Felt so bad for the girl.

I like Zac. He is no Michael Kors, but last season his red suit was literally my favorite outfit the WHOLE season. He always offers good advice but not in the cheeky MK fashion (pun intended).

Hi, I'm super late to this discussion, but yes I was soooo glad he called him out on that. My husband begrudgingly watches the show when I have it on, and when Timothy said it was neither additive or destructive (or something along those lines) and only transformative, my husband was like "WHAT IS HE TALKING ABOUT?? It IS destructive!!"

And his poor, poor, poor model. Sooooo much cringe when he was teaching her the performance. So so so much cringe. I hope he gets kicked off next. I thought using recycled materials and a loom was cool at first, but he's obviously not suited for the show given his refusal to use electricity or any methods that could actually translate to mass production for that matter. He is just the cringiest cringe.

I thought Timothy was so annoying, I was bummed when he stayed.

There is a big difference between "holistic" and assholistic. Seriously.

I want to punch him in the face so badly, but I'm kinda glad he stayed just to see what other ridiculousness he has up his sleeve. I applauded his model for not doing a ballet routine down the runway.

I hated how he said that without the performance he 'lost half the outfit'. The design should speak for itself. The whole environmental awareness seems like craving for attention. I still think that with the right design and attitude you can send down a girl with no styling but he was a huge asshole about it. The make up artist kinda saved the day telling the girl that she's pretty anyway.

OMG it took me about five minutes to start hating on him and I never hate so quickly! But it was also obvious that the barbershop muumuu had to go home. There was nothing there except color blocking.

I was all ready for some more Zac Posen hating... until he came out with "she looks like a slutty cat toy."

And "She looks like tinkerbell at burning man."

Maybe things are looking up?

Zac Posen hate? He is so great, he gives accurate critique, he supports them and he doesnt have a problem going against either Heidi or Ninas opinion. I say keep him! :)

u/Chrysothemis Jul 19 '13

Perhaps he is the next best thing to Michael Kors and his one-liners!

I'm really happy about some of the changes in this season - the Tim Gunn Save is excellent. How many times have we seen the wrong person go home? And the anonymous voting. About frikken time. Judge the garments, not the designers. Also - NO TEAMS! That last season was awful.

11

u/chelseayn Jul 19 '13

Agreed, last season's team idea was terrible. They kept claiming that it was "like working in the real world" but when do you ever see michael kors hunched over with ralph lauren collaborating? the anonymous voting thing is great too, and agreed, long overdue.

Timothy is an insufferable hipster. I thought those people were confined to being tumblr social justice bloggers but seeing one active in real life was truly both hilarious and sad. I cannot wait for him to leave. I love when Zac Posen called him out on his hypocrisy and the comment seemed to just fly right over his head.

I am so excited for this season, coming off of the team season last season. The "Tim Gunn save" is an interesting concept, but my favorite is that they can look at the dresses because the bad people who glue everything last minute will get called out. I am glad Heidi called Miranda out, she and Timothy annoy me so much--and that is coming from a Wisconsinite.

10

u/slowloris93 Jul 19 '13

I'm also glad that Miranda got singled out for not using the unconventional materials enough, but I'm happy that they didn't send her home. It would have been unfair to give Miranda the boot while still keeping Helen, who also barely used the parachute fabric, but didn't get called out on it because she wasn't in the top or the bottom.

Angela shouldn't have gone home.

With his slutty cat, purple frumptopus collar and vagina flashing, Sandro would be my pick to kick off.

Also, surprised Sue did so well. I'm not complaining though, I'm a fan of hers.

And, Helen should of been in the top. That dress was beautiful.

18

u/chelseayn Jul 19 '13

why did not one judge mention the vagina slip? there have been some nearly-nude models go down that runway in the past, but that was definitely a first. angela was one of my favorites and that was a damn shame.

19

u/RebelSong Jul 20 '13

I figured the girl was so damn embarrassed already that they didn't want to make it worse.

12

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '13

The model was such a pro. I'm sure she was incredibly embarrassed, but she didn't look it for a second.

10

u/chelseayn Jul 22 '13

haha that is probably true--a model vying for a spot on Marie Claire standing in front of big people in the industry, vagina hanging out. Sandro, you had one job....

u/starkey2 Jul 30 '13

They never seemed to care about embarrassing people before.

Best part about this season is all the new changes they made. And no teams !!!
