My family personally has always had good relations with Muslim families, before and after the 2002 riots.

I have noticed one BIG change in Ahmedabad in last 4-5 years is Muslims and Hindus travel to each others' areas bade aaram se. I know it should always be like that, and there shouldn't be ghettoization in the first place. But you cannot change something overnight. Ghettos have always been there in Ahmedabad. There are religion-based laws that regulate the purchases of real estate. Now on weekends I see hordes of Muslims in parks/malls in Hindu dominated areas. This is something you can only feel good about if you have seen the historical animosity first hand.

While land is being occupied by private owners during the real estate bubble, earlier in last decade, corporations started building gardens all across the city. So availability of public spaces also opened up a social opportunity for people right after the carnage. I don't understand sociology and its relation with architecture, but I guess open spaces do contribute to people feeling more comfortable.

However, when real estate prices started going up, housing has been completely out of reach for middle-class. A lot of malls open up, only to close down later. Any time I go to a mall, all I see is people chilling in the centrally cooled off ambiance, than do any shopping. You can take land away from people, but they will reclaim it one way or another.

For youth, this state can be really boring. You can travel to and visit places but if you want to kick around in the city during a weekend, there is hardly anything to do. Add to that the prohibition. That takes out a huge venue for people to hangout. In Ahmedabad, Baroda and Surat you can see groups of people sitting on curbs and in parking lots and chatting because there is nowhere else to do so. Again my own inclination towards the want of public spaces could cloud my judgment.

Gujarat has always been safe for women. I could trust that my sister and her friends would come home safely after a late-night show or dandiya. Lately there has been a lot of incidences of chain-snatching and robberies. A lot of migration has taken place at the same time. Don't know if both are related.

Bootleggers - check. Major illegal activities are around booze and real estate. We are much lower than Punjab/NCR and higher than South Indian states in bragging.

I have heard that due to the no booze policy, women feel much safer at night in Gujarat. Is this true?

Why the addiction to fried snacks?

Must visit places.

I am more worried about Gujarat's child sex ratio: it stands at 886.

My village population is 400-500. There are roughly 20 single guys who are 24-36 years old. Only 3 girls were single 19 years or older. And they got married to NRIs. This is the case for many villages.

If this continue, most likely guys will have to give dowry to girls in Gujarat.

None, i was trying hard to think of a problem but found none. I must say they increase the local tax every few years, its the major problem.

Well they send sms few days ahead to get your child vaccine, what can you ask for more, when you register the birth certificate they note the phone number and every few months they sms what vaccine you should be giving.

They distribute medicine door to door to the while whole fucking city to cure falaria (elephant lag).

This monsoon i complained gutter clog to municipality they brought a big pressure truck specially for drainage cleaning they did their job very well.

Well you get the idea.
