"Shanghai" (上海) Literally means "on the sea". The bottom represents the East China Sea, the flower is a stylised representation of the yulan magnolia, Shanghai's city flower. The star constellation to the left matches the one on the Chinese flag, representing the city's place in the East of China.

"Heilongjiang" literally means Black Dragon River, which is the Chinese name for the Amur. This is named after the black river that runs through the province.

REPLY TO THIS POST if you have other flags to share and don't feel they would be appropriate for the contest (e.g. you have more than 3 flags submitted already, you were too late, you just want feedback and don't really care about winning).
Also, bug u/Simon_the_Cannibal [+1] if something's amiss.

It is home to a number of ethnic groups including the Uyghur, Han, Kazakh, Tajiks, Hui, Kyrgyz, and Mongol, with a majority of the population adhering to Islam. This flag highlights the Muslim population of this province.
The desert climate is represented by a gold band of sand across the flag. The Islamic population is represented with a mosque. There is also communist iconography throughout. With a crescent moon and star being made up of a sickle.

Lanzhou used to be called the Golden City (golden colour), and it was a major link on the ancient Northern Silk Road (path across the flag), and also an important historic Yellow River crossing site (spirals on both sides of the path).

Ningxia Flag

Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is an autonomous region for the Hui people (Chinese-speaking practitioners of Islam). The shape in the middle is inspired by the region's abbreviation (宁) and the crescent symbolizing Islam. Green and white are also typical Islamic colors.

Anhui Province

Anhui means peaceful honor, so a peaceful symbol is used. This flag is based on the Lotus Flower from Buddhism and the highest mountain, Lotus Peak, part of the Huangshan Mountains in southeastern Anhui.
