How is the common man affected by the Naxal problem ?

Naxal problem is too much fragmented in CG. I mean there are some Naxal activities in many districts of CG (typically remote areas_ but it is not severe everywhere. The problem is little serious in the border areas. In south, problem is very severe in the districts bordering Andhra Pradesh i.e. Bastar, Dantewada, Bijapur & Sukma. Mind you earlier all of these were a single district. In west, there is some Naxal activities in Rajnandgaon, district bordering Maharashtra and in north & east - In border areas with Jharkhand & Orissa i.e. Surguja, Jashpur & Balrampur.

CG never had any Naxal problem initially, most of the Naxal leaders are the ones who have been kicked out of their native states by the state police. bhainchod Gulti naxals are the real assholes creating havoc in south. I can provide a detailed description of naxal problem in CG but have to rush to office.

Apart from south CG, in rest of places Naxal problem is not a major issue in local day to day life. CG is safer than areas like eastern UP, Muzaffarnagar, meerut, Bhind, Muraina, Delhi NCR.

Is the problem really as bad as the media makes it out to be ?

In actual media has never taken Naxal problem in CG seriously. problem is severe in South CG (Bastar area)

What is the truth about Binayak Sen ?

get back to you later on this. there are two sides of a coin

What food should I try out in your state ?

Local chicken curry. In central CG, there are some authentic sweet dishes (can try). Mahua liquor is a must try. Best tasting liquor IMO. In Bastar, you may try chutney made of red ants. Thin rice of CG is very good in taste.

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

bhainchod Gulti naxals are the real assholes creating havoc in south.

We kicked those bhainchods out of our state.

5

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13

AP, Maharshtra and Jharkhand all kicked out their naxals, they came into CG..

Naxal war is not CG's war in any way

4

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

kick them out man.

They will be killed on the borders of all the states you mentioned.

1

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

No...YSR just bribed them to keep their activites out of Andhra and turned a blind eye to their hideouts in Adilabad, Karimnagar, basically Telengana region as long as they just come for hiding/resting.

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

Nope. You are wrong this time.

1

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

I am a vegetarian but would still try out red ants chutney.

Ideally with some Mahua booze you have mentioned. Is there a season for it ?

3

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13

No Mahua booze is available throughout the year. it is so sweet saar....munh me paani aa gaya.

You can also try Rice beer. Mainpat, one of the hill stations in Surguja has a tibetan refugee camp. They have an enriching culture and you can also try their delicacies.

Ranjan tu 36garh ka hai, main sochta tha ki tum UP wale ho. Thanks for doing this man, i know almost nothing about 36garh.

I always thought Ajit Jogi is one of the good ones, a erstwhile IAS i guess. If i am not wrong, he gave Raman singh a good fight? Do you think he has a future in 36garh and national politics.

3

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

I used to think he is a Gujju

4

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13 edited May 25 '13

main sochta tha ki tum UP wale ho

saar....i no bhaiya, i am 36gadhiya

Jogi was the topper in his college days, I guess he cleared IAS from general quota. He ably administered Indore as its collector, he came into politics after Rajiv gandhi insisted. Somewhere he turned into pure evil.

Started 3 yrs MBBS scheme, opened up CG for private universities. At one time 36gadh had 85+ private universities. Pocketed all the money from the owners of these universities. Started promoting missionary agenda and christians like anything. His son started acting like a prince. He got Ram Avatar Jaggi the office holder of NCP killed.

If i am not wrong, he gave Raman singh a good fight?

in fact Dileep Singh Judeo gave him a good fight and won the battle. Votes were polarized at that point of time on the lines of religion. since then it has been downhill for Jogi. I doubt he will ever come back to power

1

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

I used to think that you're a delhiwala.

Started 3 yrs MBBS scheme, opened up CG for private universities. At one time 36gadh had 85+ private universities. Pocketed all the money from the owners of these universities.

Number of students got screwed due to this.

In honour of fuck_cricket, I'd like to point out that Raipur's supposedly badass cricket stadium was put to use during this IPL season.

More info

Picture

3

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

err....

From your "More info" link -> Irfan Pathan who was in awe of the facilities in the stadium noted that “When opportunities are created, and such facilities are in place, there is the hope that cricketers will emerge . I hope to play again at this wonderful venue”[8]

Who is Irfan Pathan ?

9

u/PlsDontBraidMyBeard May 25 '13

The guy sitting next to what appears to be some tribal Rajasthani singer

I should get off reddit now. I half predicted that you would make a remark like that. Tsk Tsk!

Since I have some free time so I would like to mention some relatively unknown facts about Chhattisgarh in nutshell:

  • Railways: The state has the highest freight loading in the country and one -sixth of Indian Railway's revenue comes from Chhattisgarh.

36gadh govt is also planning for Metro Rail project between durg-Bhilai-Raipur-Naya Raipur which will help in connectivity in this area as it is a hub of industrial activities.

  • Mythology: CG was in fact south kosal in antiquity. There are several places like Dandkaranya, Chitrakoot (south CG) and Sitabengra cave (North east CG) where Rama, Sita and Laxman were believed to have lived.

Ramgarh a hill station in Surguja is believed to be the place on which Kalidasa has based his epic Meghdootam, or it is the place where Kalidasa wrote Meghdootam, I am not sure. It also has the world's oldest amphitheater.

There are many old (Kalchuri era) temples in Sirpur, Ratanpur, Rajim, Bhoramdeo, Danteshwari. All of them have largely been neglected.

  • Tribal Culture: The most colorful aspect of CG. There are so many tribes like Gond, Pando, Korwa, Bheel, Kamar, Baiga, Abujhmar etc. Each of them have separate customs and culture. Panthi, Raut Nacha, CHhuwa, Pandwani etc are wonderful folk dance forms. Here is famous Teejan Bai performing Pandwani - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PS8lOi_wIf0

Women have a lot of freedom and rights (almost equal to men) in these communities. The only ill practice is - accusations of witch craft.

You must have heard the song - "Chola Maati ke hai Raam" in Peepli Live. Habib Tanveer has immortalised 36gadhiya dilect with his plays. I had seen one of his plays Charandas Chor. Almost died while laughing.

late edit: 36gadhi music aur chhollywood ka bhi apna hi alag maza hai - a sample of 36gadhi song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlpzS-AINDY

few prod gems of Chhollywood blockbuster mor chhaiya bhuiya-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kATw5SL-xfc

http://youtu.be/7oqOww8mhI8?t=3m30s

  • Minerals: You name it CG has it, even diamond (Devbhog) & Uranium (Surguja).

  • Tourism: Almost every district in 36gadh can boast of good tourist locations - Chitrakoot, Narayanpur, Dussehra festival in Jagdalpur, old temples, Rajim Mela, Tibetan refugee camp and hill station in Mainpat, Hot water spring in Tatapani, Kailash caves, wild life sanctuaries etc etc. I have never explored this site in detail, but posting it here for reference - http://www.chhattisgarhtourism.net/

During Monsoons, the state becomes a pure visual bliss

  • Govt policy: CG has just passed a food security bill in dec, 2012. many People have appreciated it, I do not know the details of it. CG is also the only state to have a health insurance scheme for all of its citizens. It will give a cover of 30000/- to each family registered. the amt may seem small to most of us here, but the major health problems in the state are diarrhea, cholera & snake bites among poor people. For them it will be a big help.

Edit 2: Sigh- Bad luck Chhattisgarh: gets on the front page of r/india, comes under major attack by Maoists.

RIP Mahendra Karma and others as well slain in the attack. May be this can be a wake up call and Raman Singh govt be given free hand and full support from center to deal with Maoists.

Edit 3: Dear stranger, Thanks a lot for the reddit gold :-)

Most of the things you have said are true, however Chitrakoot is in northern MP, to be more precise between UP and MP border.

Have been there few times and Gupt-Godavari is highly recommended.

haan, These three are top most leaders in state Congress..who told them to have a campaign in Bastar in such a turbulent time? waise bhi us area se voting honi hi nahi thi...Naxals would have told the villagers to boycott the elections

11

u/pajiplease May 25 '13 edited May 25 '13

I've been to Chattisgarh twice, it's one of the most beautiful places in India in terms of both people and greenery. It's got a diverse tribal population who seem to be fiercely independent about their own value system. It's got wildlife, and even though Raipur was hot as hell, people were much friendlier than they would be in say Madhya Pradesh, or UP. C'garh, sadly, is also being screwed from many directions- The Naxalites, the Paramilitary, the Big Corporates, the Administration. Everyone wants to extract their pound of flesh from this beautiful state. Having said that, it's also one of the few states where the PDS seem to function smoothly, and starvation at least isn't a problem. People from C'garh, what do you think about the land-grab problem and the Naxalites there?

3

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13

land grab problem has recently come into limelight. Now Tata Steel is facing problem in land acquisition in Bastar. It is a scary situation when company like Tata Steel is also facing problem in this regard. All of the major industrial units which have been operating in CG had been there for decades. There are always two coins of the stories. Even these so called activists have petty interests involved. One of my relatives uses the threat of RTI to get govt contracts.

Naxalites are a problem but they are largely localised. Most of the CG is safe to live and do business. Naxalites have not been a major problem to the overall growth of the state.

2

u/gcs8 May 25 '13

One of my relatives uses the threat of RTI to get govt contracts.

That's interesting. Please elaborate..

3

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13

nothing much of a rocket science here, if you know that some illegal practice going on in any govt department you can use the threat of RTI for that activity to pressurise the govt officials to act as you desire.

RTI is a powerful tool mostly used by wrong people.

2

u/fictionfan May 25 '13 edited May 25 '13

Naxalites are big part of do present major problems in CG but as u/ranjan_zehereela said in one of his posts, it mostly in tribal/rural areas. Major cities like Raipur, Durg/Bhilai, Bilaspur, etc are relatively safer

1

u/johnlenin May 25 '13

PDS seem to function smoothly

Would love to hear more about the RCTs you conducted (i'm assuming) or the data you have to support this. Prior to that however, you could perhaps talk about what you mean when you say 'smoothly'.

This is a state where...

There are no Delhi-like protests in Chhattisgarh when a 4-year old is raped even though the rapists are always locals as opposed to immigrants in Delhi.

It's funny and disgusting at the same time when these adivasis accuse Delhi boys of being perverts.

5

u/douchebag_duryodhana May 25 '13

Don't have anything useful to contribute to the discussion? Please don't bother. Post your rape stats when some one claims Delhi is the rape capital of india.

3

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

3

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13

In tribal and rural areas of the state people have very active sexual life. Not much emphasis on virginity and no particular customs or tradition to suppress women rights, so yeah sometimes affairs do tend to go awkward. One should read this story carefully, the one posted by butt hurt delhi boy

Most of the times rape stories in CG are like - "shadi ka jhansa dekar daihik shoshan". Trust me on that, I do read local news papers regularly in which ever state I stay.

One should have a look at the sex ratio in CG - 1000:991. Isn't it healthy?

Women have lot of freedom. It is not a taboo in CG tribal areas for women to have multiple marriages. Even Teejan Bai (famous Pandwani singer) married thrice - the latest husband being younger than her eldest son.

Edit: Rest of the stories are as stale and depressing as any other rape news from other parts of the country and yeah being labeled as Naxals is a big problem for tribals

3

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

I remember Teejan Bai very well. She was very popular on DD1 and DD Bhopal.

Standard question : Do you consider that separating from Madhya Pradesh has improved the state actually or is it more of the same shit ?

5

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13

Do you consider that separating from Madhya Pradesh has improved the state actually

Big YES

3

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

Ok in what way ?

I mean did previously uncared for areas started receiving more resources as a result of division ?

Or services become more streamlined ? Or simply real estate prices increased tremendously creating a ripple effect...

9

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13

CG was like the Rahul Dravid (in his early part of the career) of Madhya Pradesh, silently delivering results, not getting recognition. Pre partition days were like the dark ages for the state.

Just after the partition, it was like chaos. It was division of everything from resources to man power to even furniture in govt offices. no govt official wanted to go to CG. Cg was given trashy furniture as well.

But CG had the potential, it was already doing well. It did not take CG long to handle its shit in a better way.

all of the questions raised by you have an answer in yes. :-)

6

u/bigthuys May 25 '13

upvote for rahul dravid analogy

4

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

Thanks for the answers "Mohnish Behl".

I have more question - is there any subregional cultural difference between Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh..like there exists between Andhra/Telengana, Maharashtra/Vidharbha etc..was that also a reason in the separation or pure administrative reasons ?

2

u/fictionfan May 25 '13

Just after the partition, it was like chaos. It was division of everything from resources to man power to even furniture in govt offices. no govt official wanted to go to CG. Cg was given trashy furniture as well.

Not completely true. Many (read few, as compared to those who wanted MP) govt officers wanted to remain in CG and they did. Furniture was bad, but it was always like that when it was an unified state.

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

I think the separation of chhattisgarh from madhya pradesh was good for both states. Just look the growth rates of both states.

4

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13

primarily due to stable governments

1

What is the actual meaning of Chhatisgarh? Is it 36 houses?

6

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13

I am not sure..no one is sure...there are no 36 forts, no 36 houses, no 36 tribes, 36gadhiya women do not marry 36 times...

pata nahi bhaiya

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

Wasnt Chattisgarh supposed to be named Vananchal or something like that but was changed later ?

3

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13

no, that was being proposed for jharkhand

4

u/desi_in_videsh May 25 '13

From wikipedia:

Chhattisgarh takes its name from the 36 pillars of Chhatishgarhin Devi temple (chhattis means "36" and garh means "fort").

3

u/AiyyoIyer May 25 '13

Ah! Thank you.

Chandi in Tamil means ass. So does that mean Chandigarh means House of asses?

5

u/desi_in_videsh May 25 '13

LOL nice. It's always funny how different words have different connotations in Indian languages. I know "Randi" means respectfully inviting someone to their house in Telugu. It was funny when my parents were visiting a Telugu family and the poor lady didn't know English or Hindi. She looked at my mom and kept saying "Randi, randi" and my mom had this WTF like expression on her face. Priceless!

3

u/AiyyoIyer May 25 '13

HAHAHAHA, that's is gold.

Kundi in Hindi means a latch, so you say in Hindi, "Kundi lagao" which means "Lock the door.

But Kundi in Tamil and Malayalam means asshole.

Imagine a Telugu-Tamilian inviting someone to their house, "Randi, kundi karo."

5

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

This is some coincidence. Naxals have killed a senior Chattisgarh Congress leader and injured another (VC Shukla). And two others have been abducted also.

Will u/ranjan_zehereela or someone throw some light on what the fuck is happening in the state at the moment?

3

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

This seems like a comprehensive report. http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/other-states/congress-leader-killed-in-chhattisgarh-maoist-attack/article4750467.ece?homepage=true

The murdered leader is Mahendra Korma, founder of the Salwa Judum, the fearsome extra-legal Naxalite-killing police.

3

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13 edited May 25 '13

Mahendra Karma was the founder of the Salwa Judam. he was a fearless man - Kind of leader which Bastar people needed to counter Naxalism. He was on the radar of Maoists for quite some time. Many of his family members had already been slain by Maoists. His death is a major blow to the Anti Naxal movement and a loss to the state. RIP.

VC Shukla is the son of Pt Ravishankar Shukla, first CM of Madhya Pradesh. he had spearheaded the movement for separate CG state. He is a veteran leader, had been a minister in cabinet, had left Congress earlier due to problems with Jogi. He is the most elite and respected Congress leader in the state.

Nand Kumar Patel - Fuck you nandu, what were you also doing there..He is the state president, has been abducted

This is a coup by Maoists. Shit has got real... very serious situation if the news is true

Edit: Fuck you Maoists...

Karma, a former Home Minister who was a guiding force behind 'Salwa Judum' (anti-Naxal operation by vigilante groups), was surrounded by about 100 to 150 Maoists who peppered his body with bullets.

source

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '13

Wasn't Salwa Judum accused of human-right violations? Child soldiers and all.

I always thought Ranjan is from Jharkhand or Bihar but he is 36gadhiya and seems to be badhiya. So my set of questions.

  • How do by looking at a surname I differentiate a CG person from MP/BR/JH?

  • Visited Naya Raipur website. Looks good. How do you compare the urban places of CG with other urban non metro places of India?

  • When I visited Munnar I was told that if a hill has a tea plantation it will have all the possible infrastructure facilities. Does this apply to CG, as wherever there are minerals CG has network of road, electricity is available etc?

  • No one talked about agricultural scene. I just read poisonous Ranjan's recommendations about rice. What is the agricultural and horticultural scene in CG?

  • I knew about CG having tourist attractions. But I only see ads about "MP mast hai" and "Kabhi to Gujarat ao". Has any govt paid attention to developing tourism in CG? What if some one really ventures out as a tourist in CG? HP, GA and KL are tourist friendly places. What kind of tourism infrastructure is in place?

Guide book dhoondhne gaya hai kya? Kameeney!!! Nakal maar ke answer de raha tha? Nalayak!!!

2

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13

saar, office se ghar to jaane do

How do by looking at a surname I differentiate a CG person from MP/BR/JH?

most of the prevalent North Indian surnames are also common in CG. however here are some of the CG specific surnames:

Devangan, Sao, Singh Dev, Singh Deo, Tigga, Toppor, Ukey, Uikey Kerketta, Kujur, Kushwaha, Parmar, karmakar, Karma, Chandrakar etc etc

Visited Naya Raipur website. Looks good. How do you compare the urban places of CG with other urban non metro places of India?

first of all no power cuts. Raipur has so many malls and multiplex, so many..even I was amazed. One of them is like the prototype of Burz Khalifa. Raipur has the potential to become one of the best tier 2 cities.

Bhilai and Korba can boast of their cosmopolitan culture. People from all parts of country. Academic environment in these cities is great especially Bhilai.

Safety of women is not an issue in these cities. Other towns are also modest and doing well. I felt so prod to see the Bus stand of my home town. This Bus Stand was the proof that Raman Singh govt is ensuring development in each and every part of the state. Felt like giving ISO certification to the Bus Stand right away.

When I visited Munnar I was told that if a hill has a tea plantation it will have all the possible infrastructure facilities. Does this apply to CG, as wherever there are minerals CG has network of road, electricity is available etc?

British ensured enough connectivity to the regions (mines etc.) which are of economic value. Raigarh, Bilaspur, Raipur, Bhilai, Durg and Rajnandgaon are on Mumbai Howrah route in that very order. from these cities, you can go to any part of CG in 6-7 hrs by road

No one talked about agricultural scene. I just read poisonous Ranjan's recommendations about rice. What is the agricultural and horticultural scene in CG?

CG is known as the 'Rice Bowl' of the region and all that people grow here is Rice, rice and rice (well mostly). Ajit Jogi govt did talk about introducing Ratanjot (bio diesel) to farmers. But not sure, what happened after he was gone.

I knew about CG having tourist attractions.

Govt has now started focusing on tourism. Facilities for tourists have started coming up now. So we may see something tangible in future in this respect.

Water and electricity in urban areas?

3

u/ranjan_zehereela May 25 '13

drinking water is a problem in rural areas. Diarrhea is prevalent in rainy seasons in remote areas. But CG govt has come up with Sanjeevani vehicle scheme, where hundreds of ambulances have been deployed all over the state to ensure quick medical relief in remote areas. CG is the only state to have universal health scheme for all of its citizens.

Electricity is in surplus. Have never faced load shedding since 2000
